Chapter 10

~Flashback to the confrontation between Draco and Professor Snape~

Draco was confused that his Godfather had randomly summoned him to his office. When they both arrived at his office an awkward silence established, Draco was the first one to speak when he asked, “What do you need, Professor?”

“I want you to stay away from Potter, something is off about him and I don’t him to… Be a bad influence.” His Godfather said with a soft tone. Draco’s eyes widened in anger and disbelief, ‘How dare he try and alienate my best friend!’ He thought.

Quickly calming himself down so he would not yell at his Professor he said, “I don’t understand how be could be a bad influence. Sev, Harry has better grades than me, the only thing I’m better than him is at potions! Not only that he is nice and respectful to most people, tell me sir has he ever spoke out against you?”

His Godfather sneered at the words Draco said. “Draco you must understand I am your Godfather. Lucius, your father, told me to protect you to the best of my abilities. No matter what. I can tell you this for sure, Harry is danger. Did you see what he did with that troll? He mutilated it, he did not have to kill the poor beast.” His Professor said slightly more frantic than before, Draco got more and more angry.

“That was out of self-defense, that ‘Poor beast’ almost attacked and killed our friend Neville!” Draco yelled, before he realized what he just said. His Godfather never knew about his friendship with Neville. Draco knew his Godfather assumed that the ‘friendship’ was just a mutual agreement to be nice to each other for Harry’s sake.

“Oh, so that near squib Gryffindor is your friend as well? This is just more proof that the little Golden-Boy is influencing your actions. Whenever I see you talking to him, I’ll give you detentions AND a letter to your father. I don’t think he’d like his son being ‘best friends’ with the defeater of our Dark Lord.” Snape sneered. Draco paled in response; his Godfather never threatened to contact his Father unless it was important. He cared for his Godfather so much, but this was just too far for comfort.

“Harry hasn’t been influencing me Sev! Matter of fact first day I met him he said he didn’t care that I support the Dark Lord, as long as I don’t force my opinions on him either. The only thing he could have remotely influenced me in is being friends with Neville. Please Sev, Harry is one of the truest friends I have ever had!” Draco exclaimed, hot angry tears streaming down his face. For the first time in years he was truly mad at his Godfather.
“No, Draco, now leave. Be sure to tell your ex-friend Potter this as well, same rules apply to him. Do wipe those years as well, us Slytherins do have a reputation to maintain.” His Godfather said in cold, emotionless tone. Draco felt betrayed, he quickly turned around and walked out of the office. Wiping his tears away he suddenly got an idea. An incredibly risky, but Slytherin idea. Walking over to the Library he specifically requested Harry, when they entered the corridor Draco put up a silencing charm before mentioning his idea.

“Draco are you alright, what happened?” Harry said in the impassive tone Draco felt so allured to.

Sighing Draco said, “My Godfather said we can’t be friends anymore, he said some awful things about you. Anyway, I have an idea bypass this, I will send a letter to my father and ask if you can spend the Yule with us. I need you to make a very impressive impression and pretend to be interested in the dark arts ect, so my father will like you. Then we can be friends!”

Harry nodded and stated, “I can do that. Plus, learning some of the dark arts doesn’t seem too bad.”

Draco’s red-teary eyes widened at Harry. “Wait really? That’s amazing, father says during the Yule break he’ll teach me some beginner Dark spells so that will be amazing!” Draco said as a big smile appeared on his face. Observing Harry’s face, he noticed a smile emerged on his face as well.

“Great though we need to listen to Professor Snape, for now at least. I don’t want to get anymore detentions than I already have with him.” Harry said, Draco’s smile deflated a bit. Draco only responded in a curt nod before walking away, sighing he went to the common room to write his father the letter.

~end of flashback~

Harry sat on a rather large rock in the forbidden forest calming himself down, after the trip to Diagon Alley his suppressed rage exploded once again. He felt so angry, hatred flooded in his veins. He knew that this hatred isn’t just about the incident with Draco and Professor Snape. Harry’s entire life he was full of hate, hatred for the orphanage, his hatred for the Dursley’s, his hatred for muggles, his hatred and begrudging respect for Voldemort, HATE, HATE, HATE…

Looking up at the sky he closed his he embraced the coldness of raindrops that hit his face. Harry could feel his magic thrumming through him, suddenly, he felt his magic violently thrashed out. Quickly opening his eyes, he looked at the surrounding’s all the tree’s and flowers around him died. The forest green leaves were in piles on the floor, the trunks of the trees looked dry and cracked. The grass turned an ashy yellow color. The once vibrant flowers were gray and wilted, a bird that was flying above him had fallen and died blood discharging out of its crushed head. Harry felt numb as he looked at his surroundings, getting up from his perch he calmly walked to the castle. On his walk he realized the damage around was allot worse than he expected, he walked around 3 miles in the forest and the damage was one mile long. By the time he arrived at the castle he was exhausted not only physically, but magically. Entering the castle hurriedly walked to the common room, not in the mood for dramatics by the other houses.

When he entered the common room, he could feel the angry stares of the other Slytherins piercing him. Instead of making Harry nervous like most children, it confused him instead. He was used to stares by other people, some in awe and some in pure hatred. The difference however is the fact that the Slytherins treated him normal, some of the hardcore blood purist were even bit mean to him. Never had the majority of Slytherins glare at him with such hatred, turning his head away from the group he swiftly walked to the dorms too tired to deal with them. Taking a shower and getting his pajamas on, he leapt on his bed and entered a dreamless sleep.
----
Harry groaned as he woke up, his body ached from the long excursion in the forbidden forest. Today was a school day and his start to his month-long detention. Forcing his eyes to open he got up and moved to the shower. When he finished getting ready, he left the common room and walked to the Great Hall. When he entered the Hall, he noticed his peers looking grim and lethargic. Noticing Neville was sitting with the Gryffindors he shook his head as he promptly sat down next to Theo, who seemed to be the only Slytherin that didn’t glare at him. Starving from the magic and physical exhaustion, Harry grabbed a bigger portion of food than usual, making Theo’s eyebrows raise slightly.

After a few minutes Harry decided to break the silence by asking, “Hey what is up with everyone? They all are acting as if someone died.”

“You haven’t heard of it yet? I suppose that makes sense since everyone is mad at you over the incident with Draco. Anyway, the forbidden forest has been attacked somehow. A big patch of land just died, animals, trees, flowers, bushes, Everything. No one knows what it could have been, everyone thinks that the magic wave that we felt yesterday was connected to whatever happened.” Theo stated giving a mild shudder.

“What magic wave?” Harry asked completely perplexed. He wasn’t aware that he gave off a wave of magic energy strong enough for people at the castle to feel. Harry felt oddly proud of himself, he was excited at all the attention his action got. He of course wouldn’t tell anyone he did it, because he was smart enough to know that what he did was very illegal, accidental or not.

“You didn’t feel it? Even the teachers did, the headmaster gave a big announcement and everything! You didn’t get to hear it though because you slept in a little.” Theo stated. Before Harry could respond all the food disappeared and it was time for class. Getting up Theo and Harry walked over to the defense classroom, during the walk through the corridor they were greeted by an angry Weasley.

“So, you thought it was a good idea to kill everything in the forbidden forest huh? I knew something was off about you Potter!” Ronald Weasley snapped as he clutched his wand tightly.

Rolling his eyes Harry said in a mocking tone, “Oh yes and a first year like me has the magical ability to do that.” Harry’s mocking facial expression soon turned expressionless, “Now let Theo and I go to class, I recommend you do the same.” Harry stated, Theo gave a slight smirk.

Weasley’s face turned red as he said louder than needed, “Shut up. No one else sees it, but Hermione and I do!” The Youngest Weasley then turned around and walked away, leaving the two Slytherins giggling.

When Harry entered the classroom, he saw Professor Quirrell eye him immediately, giving him a small smile, he sat down. Today they were practicing an easy shield spell, Harry already knew how to do it due to the Professor’s tutoring. Harry completed it the second they could practice it, much to Granger's annoyance as he saw her glare at him when he completed it. By the time class was over Harry managed to earn his house 20 points. He was also told to stay after class by his favorite Professor. When the other students exited his professor’s stuttering, timid mask came off.

“You did well in my class as usual, Mr. Potter. We have important matters to discuss today, meet me after curfew do not get caught.” Professor Quirrell said flatly. Harry only nodded and left, leaving his professor smiling darkly.

The rest of the day went as normal, other than the constant glaring of the other Slytherins. He had only run into Draco once, his “Ex-best-friend” apologized endlessly for the behavior of our housemates. Harry did near perfect in all his classes, other than potions for the first time that year he messed it up completely. Giving Professor Snape the pleasure of giving him another detention. As for the detention he suffered, he had to dice up Flobberworms. The worm had a gross slimy texture, and it smelled like burnt, rotting meat. After his detention with Snape, Harry quietly walked to Professor Quirrell’s office. Avoiding a Prefect, or Mr. Filch and his filthy cat in the process. When he finally arrived, he saw Professor Quirrell waiting for him patiently.

----
Voldemort was excited to see Harry, he needed to talk to the boy on if he knows anything about the magic wave he felt yesterday. Finally breaking the silence between the two Voldemort said, “Hello Mr. Potter, glad you could make it.”

Potter nodded in recognition, and he said, “Thank you, sir. Have you figured out a way to remove the tracker on my wand yet? I have a few spe-“

Putting his hand up to motion the boy to stop speaking he said, “Patience Potter. Yes, I have, but I would like to talk to you about a few things first.”

“Oh yes sir, my apologies. What would you like to talk to me about first?” Potter asked.

Voldemort smiled, he knew potter did not do the wave of magic power, he was still a first year. But he obviously knew something based on his facial expressions in the Great Hall this morning. “Do you know anything about the wave of magic power from yesterday? I was going it ask you yesterday, but you missed the lesson.”

Potter went silent for a second, he seemed to enter deep thought. He finally spoke up and stated, “I don’t know anything sir, I didn’t even feel the magic wave everyone is talking about. I am sorry sir.” Voldemort knew almost immediately was off about the boy’s statement, but he did not push him. Oh, how Voldemort wished he could use Legilimency on Potter, he always refrained from using it on students as it could easily break their minds. He just must take Harry’s word for it.

“Anyway, I have found ways to remove the tracker on your wand… Though I must inform you before I do it the way is quite illegal.” Voldemort stated coldly. He knew that Potter did not care if it was illegal or not, but he must make the boy aware. There would be no going back one he starts practicing the dark arts.

“Yes, I am quite aware sir.” Potter said as he handed his wand to his professor. “Be careful sir, my wand doesn’t really like other people handling it.” Voldemort took it carefully, heeding the boys warning. Almost immediately when he touched it, he could feel the magic power thrumming in it. The wand felt extremely similar to his own.

“If I may ask, what kind of wand do you have?” He asked as he prepared himself to do a powerful bout of wandless magic. He could not use his wand because his current wand was pre-possessed Professor Quirrell’s, which was unfortunately tracked by the ministry as well. Nor could he remove the tracker on Quirrell’s wand, the ministry would defiantly notice as he was a teacher. They wouldn’t notice a student’s wand however, there are too many students in Hogwarts to moderate completely.

Harry looked at him for a second with confusion in his eyes before flicking back to his normal mask of impassiveness. Potter soon responded by stating, “Phoenix core, with Ebony wood sir.”

“Ah I see, fairly powerful wand. Not that I am surprised.” Voldemort stated in response, then muttered the charm. It took a powerful Wizard to so such a spell. It also didn’t help that he didn’t have a wand, but luckily, he was already experienced with wandless magic. When he completed the spell, he handed the wand back to its rightful owner, Potter.

Giving a dark smile he took the wand swiftly. “Thank you, sir. Now on the first dark spell I want to learn, it is called shadow magic.” Harry said, not bothering to hide the excitement in his voice. Voldemort smiled, the boy wanted to learn a useful and uncommon skill. To be honest he was expecting the boy to want to learn something overly complicated and impractical. It was a pleasant surprise that he wanted to learn a slightly advanced but extremely useful. It was one of the first dark spells he learned as well, he was in second year when he learned it though.

“Yes, that would be a good idea. Luckily for you I am already advanced in that region.” Voldemort said slyly.

The lesson went on as usual. Harry could merge himself into his shadow by the end of the lesson. He could only do it for a few minutes, but it was still impressive. Though it clearly drained him, by the end of the lesson he was sweating and panting. Voldemort smiled when the boy left at 12:30 Am, he was excited for next lesson as he knew the boy would perfect it then. Though for now he needed to make plans for the next troll. He needed his physical body, he hated having to possess this weak excuse for a body.

----
A few days later another troll was seen in the Gryffindor tower, how Professor Quirrell managed to get the troll there Harry doesn’t know. Luckily it all happened when almost everyone was eating dinner in the great hall. Other than Granger and Weasley, Harry knew what they would be doing. Smiling at his plat of chicken and broccoli he ate another bite. After dinner Harry went to the dorms, tired. He found a letter on his bed which Harry found odd, usually any letter he receives is through owl. Grabbing the letter, he hastily opened it. Just to find it was by Professor Quirrell, it read,
‘Dear Mr. Potter,
I am afraid that this will be the last time I ever contact you; I also dearly apologize it is over letter as well. As you know it was my duty to collect the Stone for a friend, I however cannot be allowed to remain at Hogwarts as it would be too dangerous for me. I shall miss our lessons dearly, though you should still practice the spells in the book as much as possible. The tracker on your wand is gone permanently so do not worry.

Your Professor/Mentor, Professor Quirrell.
P.S Burn this the second you read it.’

Harry reread the note over 3 times before he burned it. Emotions were threatening to prickle over Harry’s impassive face, oh how he hated it when he got too attached to people. But then again, he was also slightly happy as well, Professor Quirrell had completed his mission. Shaking his head, he walked to the bathroom and took a nice hot shower. Exiting it he slipped into bed and went to sleep.

Harry woke up earlier than usual, and quickly got dressed. He wanted to know on what happened with Weasley and Granger, it couldn’t have gone well either. When he entered the great hall, he could see his fellow students happily eating completely unaware of the events that occurred last night, other than the Gryffindor table. They seemed to be more solemn and worried. He sat down next to his normal spot and waited for the announcements. Not only a few minutes later Professor Dumbledore got up and said,

“As all of you know a troll attacked the Gryffindor tower, we are lucky to tell you no one got hurt. However, two students had went up the 3rd floor following a suspicious teacher. The two students, Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger are currently in St. Mungo’s in intensive care for their injuries. Dear students, I have made a grave mistake and hired an avid supporter of Lord Voldemort. I deeply apologize and we are trying to locate this man. He shall not go unpunished.”

Harry’s eyes widened; he should have realized that Professor Quirrell needed the stone to resurrect the Dark Lord. He wasn’t angry or scared, he was more confused. Why had a supporter of Lord Voldemort teach him so much if they wanted to kill him? Harry knew death eaters aren’t as bad as they are portrayed, well most. Bellatrix Lestrange is as psychotic as can be, based on what she did to the Longbottom Family alone. Harry could also hear the outcries of other students, and some faint chuckling from the Slytherin table. Zoning it out Harry went back to eating his measly portion of eggs.

----

A month later, and many grueling detentions with Professor Snape Yule break was creeping up on them. He was becoming increasingly more excited, he and Draco talked briefly and he going to be spending Christmas break at Malfoy manner. Harry was excited to spend the time with his friend, he missed the company much to Harry’s surprise. In a few hours Harry would be getting off at kings’ cross with Draco, Mr. Malfoy will pick them up there. Draco also told him that Theo, Neville and Parkinson also might be coming over at break as well. Harry was slightly surprised that Draco even managed to convince his father to let Neville come over.

He and the other first years was led by Hagrid to the train, though this time going on the bridge instead of boat. Faking an impassive face Harry got on and sat with Theo, Draco, Pansy, and Neville. They all seemed to be captivated with their own activities, so Harry stared out the window enjoying in the comfortable silence. After a few hours the train stopped. Harry followed Draco off the train, both smiling at each other in excitement.

While they both stood there, waiting for Mr. Malfoy, Draco got bored and finally asked, “Where do you live? I mean you know where I live, it’s only fair if you tell me! I know you were muggle raised, but that’s about it.”

Harry paled and looked at Draco with annoyance. Shaking his head, he said, “I don’t see how it matters. Let’s talk about something differe-“

Before Harry could finish his statement, Draco huffed. Then interrupted him by saying, “Just tell meeeee, I’m sure wherever you grew up it wasn’t that bad. Muggles suck but they are basically harmless.”

Harry’s veins boiled with rage. Clenching his fist slightly, he gritted his teeth and said, “Muggles are not harmless, they can, and will do as much damage to anyone they deem as a minor inconvenience. I grew up with them, I know how they are.”

Draco’s eyes widened at the show of emotion, he never saw Harry angry. Besides the incident with Pansy on the first day of school, Harry was always calm and collected. Harry knew that, he knew he was probably scaring Draco. He knew his magic was seeping out of him, he knew Draco could feel it. Harry already knew it. Taking a deep breath, he told Draco, “Sorry, it's just that I am a bit sensitive with my homelife. I would appreciate it if you didn’t ask again.”

“I- Yes Harry I can do that for you. Sorry” Draco muttered. After that conversation came allot easier, they talked about what they would want to do over the summer and plans. They were there for ten minutes waiting until Harry noticed a taller and long-haired version of Draco walking up to them. Draco seemed to notice him as well and a bright smile popped on his face.

The taller man, Lucius Malfoy, gave them both a polite smile as he said, “Apologies for being late, something rather important came up that I needed to fix. I trust that you two had a good trip?”

“Yes sir.” Harry said cold, but welcoming.

“Yes father! It's okay for being late, you were busy.” Draco said in an excited tone, he was clearly proud of himself on his grades and how he did in school. Harry didn’t blame him; he was pleased with himself as well.

“Good. Now grab my arm, we have a surprise for you both when we enter the manor. Potter, I hope you are used to Apparition” Mr. Malfoy said as he motioned for them to grab his arm. Harry gently grabbed Mr. Malfoy’s arm. Before Harry could think he heard a cracking noise, and a wave of nausea and dizziness hit him. Harry could feel Mr. Malfoy grabbing his arm tightly, much to Harry’s fortune. He would have fallen over if he had not held his arm. When his vision came to him and he was feeling better he looked around to see Mr. Malfoy, and Draco looking at him concerned.

“I apologize for that, I have never apparated before. As you can see!” Harry said, giving an embarrassed laugh.

Mr. Malfoy straightened himself and stated, “Yes, that is clear. But you seemed to have reacted to it worse than most. Tell me Mr. Potter, when is the last you ate a something?” Harry reddened; this was not how he planned for it to go. He already made a fool of himself, and he hasn’t been there for an hour.

“Last thing I ate was yesterday’s lunch, I’m sorry sir, I was extremely busy with packing.” Harry said, as he forced his face back to impassive.

Mr. Malfoy nodded and said, “Okay… Well, it's good I was planning to feed you both when we arrive. Come children.” They both nodded and followed the older man.
