how you get the girl - james potter
The rain had been coming down hard, you could hear it through the windows in your bedroom, it only stopped a little while ago. You did notice snow begin to fall around the same time the raining stopped too. ‘It’ll definitely be freezing tomorrow’ you thought. You’re cooped up in blankets and warm pyjamas, wishing to escape the cold winds floating through the house. A re-run of an older tv show was playing on the small television, and the volume of it was attempting to drown out the loudness outside.
An old photobook rest in your lap, drying tearstains on the pages, you’re was forced to hold it shut as to not relive old memories inside. Back when you woke up to fluttering kisses on your cheeks, when a smile would blissfully make it’s way onto your face, it was perfect. But now it was over and you knew you had to stop re-opening wounds by looking back to it everyday.
Your eyes were beginning to fall shut, content with the background noise to aid you. Until a loud crash erupted from outside, sounding much closer to you than it could actually be. You startled up, wide eyes looking around in fright. You took a big breath of air and stood up from your bed, everything seeming much more scary and threating in the dark room at night-time. You made it to your window, slowly pulling one of the curtains to the side and looking out cautiously, seeing what could be out there, making such noises.
But when you looked down, what you saw stopped your heart in a split-second, and just a moment after had it beating twice as hard, three times as fast. What was he doing here?
Your eyebrows drew together as you saw James, out in the snow, clad in flannelette pyjamas, certainly not suitable for the weather.. waving his hands around trying to gain your attention.
You hastily drew open the window and stuck your head out “What do you think you’re doing James?!” your eyes frantic as you stare down at him, while he just smiled up at you.
“Thought I’d get your attention- Romeo and Juliet style” he laughed up at you putting his open palm forward for you to get a better look, you noticed a few pebbles left in his left hand.
“Is that what that noise was?” You yelled accusingly, he shrugged and smiled cheekily, “James! You could have broken my window!” You shouted, flustered in annoyance and quite frankly- freezing your arse off.
“I’d fix it for you” he told you, like that’d be a help in this situation.
“Come down here would you? It’s quite cold and my head is straining having to look up at you so high!” He smiled innocently, making you more wound up and ready to smack the window shut and just make him walk back home in the snow.
“Why should I come down James, hm? Because I don’t see any more reason to speak to you much longer.” Your eyes narrowed at him, sighing in frustration.
“To save your Romeo from frostbite?” He said, coming out sounding more like a question.
You huffed, but your guilty conscience won you over, you rolled your eyes and slammed the window shut, starting to walk downstairs. Muttering under your breath ‘stupid conscience, why does it have to be so nice all the time’
Once your venture down the stairs was over you made your way over to the door hastily, opening it in a flurry, face set in displease.
James was standing on the other side of it, smiling wistfully down at you, about to open his mouth before you beat him to it.
“Are you completely insane?!” he looked taken aback by your loud volume, “you could’ve died in that weather” he smirked at your obvious care for him, you noticed because the next words were harsher, “and i don’t want you here James, I don’t know what you think you’re doing here but-”
“Just listen” he said pleadingly, “please- just for a moment.” You pursed her lips before nodding. Noticing the slight shake his body was showing due to the cold.
“You’re shaking, come on-” you let out a breath of air, “come inside, just for a minute, i don’t actually want you to die of frostbite..” you muttered, turning around, walking into the kitchen.
He smiled thankfully over at you, though you couldn’t see as your back was turned to him, and he stepped inside, shutting the door behind him, hands rubbing together in an attempt to warm himself up.
“I was an idiot- I know that now. I lost my mind” he said, face regretful. “I was too afraid to tell you how I felt. I regret it, so much.”
Your face dropped, not ready to hear this spiel and fall back into what was before, “James-”
“It’s been a long 6 months without you, and I’ve come to realise that if you’re not in my life I don’t want it anymore. It’s horrible without you” he shook his head, eyes staring into your own. “I don’t want Lily.” he admitted, “I don’t think I ever really have- and I am so sorry that I put you through that. You were- are my best friend- and I was scared I’d loose you if we went any further than that. I hurt you badly, and i can never apologise enough for it.”
“I want you. I realise that you might not be ready, and that’s ok. I’ll wait- forever, as long as it takes.” his voice unfaltering, and if you knew one thing about James Potter- is that when he’s determined on something, he’ll never let it go.
“You broke my heart James”
“Let me put it back together.” he nodded, intent on his words.
“It won’t be easy”
“I want you, for worse of for better, alright?” he chuckled slightly, walking closer over to you, he took one of your hands in his own. “I’ll do anything, I’ll wait forever”
“Forever?”
“Forever and ever”
