‘Jamie, sweetie it’s okay!-’
‘No baby, you don’t understand- it was meant to be a good surprise for you since you’ve been so stressed lately, you always do good things for me, i wanted to do something for you and i ruined it!’
He ran his fingers through his hair, head hunched down. Since finding him in the kitchen all messy and frustrated, you’d brought him into your shared bedroom, where he was now sitting, on the bed with you standing between his legs massaging his unruly hair.
‘How about, instead- we can both make a day of baking things together? That’d be more fun right, we can make cupcakes and cookies, and ice them in Christmas colours!’ you babbled on excitedly, at first just trying to cheer up your boyfriend, but now you were fully on board with your idea.
You didn’t catch James looking up at you, awestruck of just how quickly you could turn his sour mood upside down. He tightened his arms around your waist and buried his head in your stomach so you wouldn’t catch his flushed cheeks.
‘I’d love that pumpkin’ he smiled at you, removing his head that was previously brushing against your jumper, ‘just let me get changed out of this shirt, it has flour and cake mixture all over it-’
‘James … don’t act as if in 20 minutes we won’t both be smothered in flour. Keep it on’
The smile didn’t leave either of your faces the entire day.
