"Have a Biscuit Potter."
Day three seemed to be the most challenging thus far. James was pissed at Lucius, but he feared for his life if Lily got ahold of him. Lily was currently letting both boys jump on the bed with her pretending to be a shark and grabbing them by surprise, a game they had been playing all morning. James was on the hunt for Lucius, which he found him in the great hall.
“You’re a bastard did you know that? Or was your ego to big to deal with a child?”
“Potter, I don’t have the slightest ideas of what you’re talking about.”
“Oh you don’t? First off Regulus is wearing my clothes shrunk currently because he didn’t have his own and I wasn’t fighting Sirius last night or this morning. Second off, why did you deliver a child to us who you were dehydrating so badly?”
“I was going off of what Walburga had stated in the past. He’s fine.”
“Just because he isn’t toilet trained does not mean you can just deprive him of water.”
“I consulted Walburga, it’s what she recommended.”
“You consulted with their mother? Without their permission?”
“You said it yourself, he’s a child.”
“Who clearly fears his mother!”
“I gave him to you because she wouldn’t take him.”
“You assumed her advice was just then?”
“I assumed the child’s mother would know best.” James was pinching the bridge of his nose. “You look like a right ass right now Malfoy. An absolute ass. He’s a child.”
“He needs to realize he isn’t. I saw how you’re treating Black, like he’s actually a child. His mother agrees, he doesn’t need to be running amuck.”
“Because he is a child! They both are! Of course we’re letting them run about.”
“Must be the mud blood girlfriend of yours who assumes she can raise a child.”
“Don’t you call her that. I’ll have you know Lily knows more than Walburga ever knew. Maybe contact their previous nannies next time because as far as I’m concerned she couldn’t even tell you what they like to eat.”
“Oh who told you that? Black when he decided to run away to your mummy?”
“My mum has nothing to do with this fight Malfoy, leave her out of it.”
“He acts like a child when he’s his proper age. You don’t think your mum has anything to do with that? Is that why you let him act the way he does? Regulus should act his age, he acts older than the traitor.”
“Don’t call Sirius that.”
“It’s what he is. He runs off to your filthy mud blood pet the second he’s a child, why? Because she feeds his need for constant attention.” In that moment James wasn’t sure what came over him, but he punched Lucius square in the face. Lucius took no time to strike back causing an even larger seen in the great hall.
“Mister Potter! Mister Malfoy! What is the meaning of this?” Mcgonagall was rushing to the scene unfolding in front of her.
“Don’t you ever call Lily that again you filthy little cockroach!” James yelled as the boys were separated. Slughorn became involved as well, dragging each boy away from each other.
“My office. Now.” Mcgonagall walked briskly and James followed, more upset than anything. Malfoy contacted Sirius’ mother, against their wishes. She didn’t need more taunting bait to hang in front of Sirius when she wrote hurtful letter, he got enough as it was. Malfoy had no right to treat Regulus that way either. Who doesn’t change a small child after they’ve had an accident? He had no right to bring his own mother into it. He had no right to call Lily that.
“Mister Potter sit.” His professor sounded calmer as she sat at her desk.
“Minnie, I can explain. I shouldn’t have punched him I know that-“ he was cut off.
“Have a biscuit Potter.”
“What?”
“You heard me. How are the Blacks? I assume Lily has them.” He took a chocolate biscuit from her tray and looked up at her as she stood back up.
“Yeah, Lily has them.”
“I’ve noticed she’s been sleeping in your room.”
“Sirius wanted her too, I swear we haven’t been doing anything. I sleep on the floor professor I swear.”
“I believe you Potter, I only know because she leaves the boys dormitory.”
“They both took a liking to her.”
“It’s hard not too.”
“Am I in trouble professor?”
“No. No, I understand your actions.”
“He contacted Walburga.” He watched her pursed lips, unsure of what to say for a moment.
“That’s a pity for both boys when they go home or rather when Regulus returns home.”
“She still writes Sirius, he doesn’t need to be belittled for this event.”
“They’re good boys. Do you know what they were fighting about when the event occurred?”
“No, it’s my fault professor, Sirius and I fought first.”
“I would ask one Mister Snape about the event, he might know more.”
“No offense professor, but we aren’t remotely close.”
“Him and Miss Evans are though, no?”
“They are. How much longer until they’re fixed professor?”
“Three days it looks like. Let them enjoy it Mister Potter, I have a very strong feeling neither Black ever had a pleasant experience growing up. I saw them playing last night. You looked quiet dashing in your flower crowns.” James blushed some.
“Lily and Regulus made them.”
“Hard to believe a boy who is so stern has such a soft side, no? Almost like it’s a facade.”
“It has to be for his mother, I saw how they lived in that house.”
“My statement remains Mister Potter, they’re children. Treat them as such.”
“We will.”
“I’ll give bonus house points for you, Mister Lupins, Mister Pettigrew, and Miss Evans behavior. You lot seem to know how to bring up a happy child. I heard the elder Black’s laughter yesterday, quiet contagious.”
“It’s lighter than it usually is.”
“Because he’s lighter.”
“Professor, I hate to ask, but why are you telling me this?”
“You may be able to change something in Regulus, think about that. Before you go, did you inform your mother Mister Potter?”
“No, she always baby’s Sirius, which he can only stand so much.”
“I suggest you copy your mother. I will see you in class tomorrow Mister Potter. You are doing a good job.”
“Thank you professor.” He smiled looking down as he exited her office to make his way back to the dormitory, not sure what he would be walking in on. He never in a million years was expecting to see stars on the ceiling of his dorm, Remus walking back and forth with Sirius pointing out things while Lily was passed out with Regulus on her chest.
“See, he came back.” Remus said as James entered.
“Course I did. What’s up Sirius?”
“He couldn’t calm down after he fell, then realized you were gone and kind of freaked out. He’s almost asleep. Regulus and Lily got to lay down about five minutes ago, clearly they were both very tired.” Remus smiled.
“Do you want to lay down with them Sirius?”
“Am I allowed?”
“Of course you are.”
“Can you stay?” James took a breath looking at his messy haired girlfriend cradling a child yet.
“Yeah, we can lay together. Thank you Remus, always a life saver.”
“Someone has to be. I’ll be in my bed okay?”
“Okay.” Sirius smiled sleepily before laying down next to Lily and Regulus.
“James, James. Wake up.” Lily was pushing on him some as he opened his eyes.
“Lilykins, I love you, but we’re napping.”
“You didn’t put Sirius in a nappy before you laid down.”
“No, why would I?” Lily glared at him as she got up to lay Regulus down with Remus. James, half awake, noticed Lily’s back was slightly wet, James felt that his was as well with Sirius sleeping where what would have been between them.
“Figure it out yet dumbass?” She glared as she gently picked up Sirius.
“In my defense he doesn’t wear one when he’s older.”
“When he’s older he doesn’t think he’s about to be beat for a wet bed.” She hissed lightly at him.
“I get that, ugh, we all need a shower. Hey Evans.”
“Piss off James. You can go last. Hey Sirius, hey little guy, can you wake up for me?” She was swaying back and forth slowly. “There’s those beautiful eyes. Hey baby, let’s go get a bath, sound good?”
“Mama’s gonna be-“
“Mama is going to be nothing. Mama doesn’t know and this is James’ fault anyway. He should have gotten you ready to lay down. Can we get a bath?”
“Can we have bubbles?”
“Of course. We did last night, didn’t we?” Lily smiled as she walked to the bathroom, leaving the door open. James followed suit behind them as she filled the bathtub.
“Hey sleepy head.” James smiled sitting on the floor as Lily got him undressed.
“Where’d you go this morning?” Sirius asked him as Lily got him in the tub.
“I had to go see Minnie. She hopes you’re having lots and lots of fun.”
“How couldn’t you be? We’ve been having fun right?” Lily was tickling him some listening to him laugh.
“Fun!”
“We always have lots of fun.” James smiled, looking at how Sirius splashed water and had no issues getting Lily wet. He watched the two play back and forth and Lily like an expert, was able to get him clean as well.
“James is going to go get you dressed okay? I’m going to go get into the bath too. My hair is so messy!” She smiled wide and Sirius nodded in agreement.
“Hey how’d I get this task?”
“You’re just that good. I need clothes too.” She was refilling the tub already. James sighed, but listened none the less.
“Do you want me to leave them here outside the door?” He called into the bathroom.
“Just open the door a crack and leave them there.” She called back.
“Or I could join you.” He teased her slightly.
“I will hex you.”
“Fair enough. Are we getting lunch when you’re done? Sirius wants to know.”
“I’m sure it’s Sirius who wants to know, but yes, I’ll be out shortly.” Lily rolled her eyes before washing her hair. These boys would be the end of her.
