I Love You
“Is this booth okay?”
It’s their one month. Remus was hesitant about tonight, he wasn't sure if it was odd to actually do something for a one month anniversary. Are one month anniversaries even a thing? He had gone back and forth trying to figure out what was the right move until he finally decided that he wanted to do something. Not anything big or overly fancy…but something.
So he decided to take him just to a small cafe for just a casual date.
“This booth is perfect, thank you!” Sirius was excited. Not necessarily over the fact that they had been together for a month, he did love that, but any time he hung out with Remus he was excited. Even if it was just to a small cafe.
They sat down in the booth across from each other and soon fell into their familiar rhythm of joking and laughing with each other.
Remus was fully aware that they were that super annoying couple that everyone hated sitting next to in public because of how mushy and adorable they are. The kind of couple that makes you hate yourself for being single, and hate them for being happy. Just like everyone else, Remus hated those couples and always vowed to never be like that if he were to get into a relationship but he had a new understanding for them because when Sirius would ball up the wrapper of the napkin and obviously throw it at him but pretended not to…it was hard to not be that sappy, adorable couple.
Currently, Sirius was trying to build some kind of building using their utensils, and despite failing miserably, insisted on putting napkins down as furniture.
He seemed incredibly proud of his structure, and of course was gloating about it. So Remus made sure that his ego wasn't getting too big and humbled him by blowing out a small puff of air, making the fragile silverware structure collapse against the table.
Remus burst out into a fit of laughter while Sirius quickly tried to rebuild his creation. He couldn't quite get it back up though because he kept getting distracted by the sublime sound of Remus’ laugh. He gave up a few moments later, picking up all the napkins that he had used and throwing them all at Remus as he laughed just as hard.
“What are you laughing at, huh?” He asked as he laughed and continued his torment. “What’s so funny?”
“You! Your face!” Remus was practically in tears from laughing so hard.
“What’s so funny about my face? Am I so ugly that it’s laughable?” He was still smiling but ceased his laughing and napkin throwing so now he was just looking at Remus. Which was nice. He liked looking at him. “And here I was, thinking you loved how my face looked.” He joked as he looked at him with lovesick, puppy dog eyes.
Remus’ laughter was also slowing, but he was grinning just as hard, “I do love your face. I love you.”
Remus’ face paled.
Sirius’ eyes widened.
He hadn’t meant to say it. He meant it. Of course he meant it. But that doesn't mean he was ready to say it. Remus started panicking over the three words that had just fallen out of his mouth. What if it was too early and he had just scared Sirius away?
“I uh- I didn’t I mean-” he fumbled with words trying to figure out how to fix it because by the way Sirius was just staring at him, it was obvious that he had just freaked him out. “I don’t love you. I mean I do but- no I don’t- I take it back. I didn’t say it, I take it back.”
“You better not take it back.”
Remus couldn’t hide the shock or confusion on his face, “What?”
Sirius’ face lit up. A giant smile on his lips and his face covered in a dark red blush, “You better not take it back because I can’t be the only one in this relationship that’s in love.”
Remus took a few deep breaths as a small smile crept onto his face but he still said nothing.
Sirius, still smiling, reached across the table and placed his hand softly on top of Remus’, “I love you, Rey.”
Remus flipped his hand over and laced their fingers together, “I love you too.”
Sirius smirked and leaned against the back of the booth he was sitting in, but not letting go of Remus’ hand, “Yeah, I gathered that.”
Remus faked offense and gathered all of the napkins that were on his side from Sirius’ earlier attack with his free hand and threw them back over at Sirius. Both of them were laughing the whole time.
Sirius was pacing in Remus’ flat. He had been trying to call him for the past 15 minutes, Remus declining every single one.
He wasn’t sure why he was so upset. They didn’t necessarily have plans but Sirius had gone over to Remus' place to surprise him and hang out with him but he wasn’t there and now he was purposefully ignoring his calls.
Maybe ten or fifteen minutes later, Remus walked through his door looking annoyed and angry. Sirius opened his mouth to say something to him but Remus cut him off.
“Don’t you dare yell at me for ignoring your calls, I was in a lecture.”
“So you’re lying to me now?”
“What?”
Sirius rolled his eyes, “You weren’t in a lecture, You’re last lecture got out an hour and a half ago. So I don't know where you have been for the last hour but it wasn't in a bloody lecture.”
“Why are you even here being angry at me? We didn’t have plans tonight!”
Sirius sat down on the small sofa, his back to Remus, “I just wanted to surprise you. I know your Thursday classes stress you out so I thought it would be nice to surprise you.”
Remus lowered his voice so that he wasn’t yelling anymore, but still kept his distance from Sirius, “I don't have to be with you 24/7.”
Sirius let out a small, pitiful laugh, and Remus realized he was softly crying, “I just wish you would have told me where you were and been honest about it.”
Remus moved to stand behind the sofa, “I just went to the library with Peter after class.” he whispered. Sirius had his head in hands. Remus moved his hand to the back of his neck, softly running his fingers through the hair that laid there, “I’m sorry I ignored your calls, I was just trying to have a quiet moment to myself.”
Sirius nodded, his head still in his hands, “I’m sorry I annoyed you. I don’t know why I freaked out so bad.” He looked up at Remus’ gentle face and groaned, hiding his face once again, “I would have left you alone if you had asked me to. Fuck, I’m sorry I’m such a fucking loser. You probably hate me.”
Remus moved to stand in front of Sirius. He took his face in his hands and pulled his chin up so that he was looking at him. “What makes you think that?”
Sirius looked annoyed at himself, “You just wanted to hang out in the library and relax and I’m freaking out and yelling at you because you didn’t answer me.”
Remus moved to sit on his lap, playing with the fabric on the collar of Sirius’ shirt. “First of all, I don’t like seeing you cry so stop that. And it’s okay. I’m not mad at you, I just want you to know that sometimes I just want to be by myself.”
Sirius silently nodded as he sniffed up his remaining tears.
“But you’re right. I should have been honest where I was and I’m sorry I didn’t just tell you what I was feeling. I’ll get better at that.”
Remus' hands were now on Sirius’ cheeks, his thumbs rubbing softly against the high points of his face.
Sirius leaned into the touch, his chest warming at the feeling of comfort that Remus was showing him, “I’ll get better too, I’m sorry too, Rey.”
They both moved in sync to exchange a small, soft kiss.
“You don’t hate me then?” Sirius asked with a small, still slightly sad smile.
Remus smiled too, kissing him once again, “No. I don’t hate you. I could never hate you, I Love You.”
“I Love You.”
