Jane Austen is pretty cool
"Hey, babe. Watcha reading?" Remus questioned coming up behind Severus who was reading on a couch in the ROR.
Severus promptly threw his book clear across the room.
"Um, why did you do that?"
"I, um, throw stuff when I get startled." Severus explained, incredibly embarrassed.
"Aw, how cute. So, what were you reading?"
"Does it matter?"
"I guess not. It's not like a big deal, or whatever. I was just curious."
"Okay."
"Why don't you want to tell me?"
Severus shrugged.
"It's just a book. What's the big deal?" Remus queried, confused.
"It's not just a book!"
"Um, okay. What makes it not 'just a book'?"
"It's...It's my favorite book....And I don't think that you'll like that it's my favorite book."
"Why would I care that it's your favorite book?"
"Because...because it's not a normal boy-favorite book."
"What do you mean 'boy-favorite book'? What makes a book a favorite book for boys or girls?"
"....It's...It's a...Jane Austen book." Severus confessed like he was confessing to murder.
"So? Jane Austen isn't my favorite author in the world, but she's pretty good. Great even."
"I...what?"
"Severus, boys can like Jane Austen. There isn't a rule stating that only boys can like something, or that only girls can like something. Not a real one at least."
"So....So, you're okay with it?"
"Of course, I'm not weird. Will you tell me the book now?"
"It's....It's Pride&Prejudiced."
"Of course that's your favorite book. I should have realized."
"What does that mean?"
"It means that you're an adorable dork who is obsessed with Jane Austen and who's favorite book is so obviously Pride&Prejudice that it's not longer obvious." Remus stated in a false angry/exasperated tone, causing Severus to giggle a little.
"Maybe."
