Licorus Black

Licorus Black.

The first known member of the Black family.

Licorus was born in 1808 in a wealthy household to two pureblood parents. Licorus was rather unique. He was not your typical 5 year old boy; when everyone else was playing, he was sitting in a corner. When everyone else was talking, you wouldn't hear a voice from him.

At the age of 5 years old, he would lock himself in the library for hours and read about lots of things - but only one thing in particular always interested him; dark magic.

And, at the age of 11, when he received his Hogwarts letter, he couldn't have been more excited to attend.

"I have to get sorted into Slytherin, I have to." He'd tell himself every day.

And finally, on September 1st, 1819, he got on the train and went to Hogwarts - the place he'd longed to go to ever since he learnt how to read.

He got onto the train and sat down in an empty spot.

"Colloportus." He whispered before sitting down and ensuring nobody was around; then he got out a notebook and started writing what happened so far in his day.

He'd found this notebook in his drawer, and he promised himself he'd journal every single day in it - no exceptions.

Hours passed, and he'd finally arrived at Hogwarts. The place really was magical, like how the books spoke. But what he was nervous of was his house; he needed to be Slytherin. What if he was a Hufflepuff? He scrunched his nose at the thought. Seconds felt like minutes, minutes felt like hours, hours felt like days. And finally, his name was called.

"Black, Licorus." A voice boomed through the hall. Licorus slowly walked to the sorting hat, his heart thumping so loud you could probably hear it from miles away.

He closed his eyes as he sat down on the stool. The sorting hat was placed on top of his head and he held his breath. A couple of moments later, the sorting hat cleared its throat before announcing,

"Slytherin!"

Licorus' immediately opened his eyes, and you could see the bright twinkle in them. A grin spread wide on his face as the Slytherin table erupted into cheers. He happily made his way to the table and sat down beside another first year, Magenta Tripe. She waved to him, and he waved back, giving her a small smile before turning and looking at the rest of the students who were about to be sorted.

"Are you Licorus Black?" A voice asked. They'd just finished the feast and made their way up to the dorm rooms. Licorus felt exhausted; it had been a long, long day, and all what he wished for was to lay down and fall asleep. He turned around and saw the same girl from the table; Magenta. Her curly hair was now tied up in a bun at the nape of her neck and her eyes seemed tired.

"Yes." He responded curtly. (He realized how stiff he sounded, so he made a mental note to self to change the attitude next time he spoke.)

"I'm Magenta Tripe. My parents... they're good friends of your parents," she giggled quietly. He attempted in giving her a smile, but it came out more of a grimace. She sat down on a nearby couch.

"Well, I just thought... oh, nevermind. I'll see you around, yeah?"

He nodded. She gave him a small grin before sighing and going to her dorm. Licorus took a quick shower, and he fell asleep before his head even hit the pillow.

He didn't expect to wake up at 03:00. And he didn't want to. But somebody was calling his name, and by instinct, he woke up.

But nobody was there.

Yet he heard his name being called over and over again.

"Licorus... come little boy, come to me..." the voice whispered. Licorus, being the person he is, got up from his bed and inspected the room. Nothing.

He went down to the common room and he saw something by the window; a large shadow. He slowly made his way to it, the whispering getting louder and louder by the minute.

"Licorus Black."

One moment, Licorus was in the common room. The other, he was running down the wide corridors of Hogwarts. With every breath he took, he felt a sharp pain in his lungs. His vision started blurring as his legs started to shake.

"I'm right here."

Licorus heard the voice before he glimpsed a tall figure behind him. He didn't stop, he kept on running. What bothered him the most - and made a shiver run down his spine whenever he thought about it - was that behind him, it was empty. And far too quiet.

He ran until he couldn't anymore, and he hid behind a trash can nearby. He felt lightheaded and dizzy and a wave of nausea kept hitting him.

He attempted in evening out his breathing by taking small breaths and closing his eyes. He wiped away the beads of sweat that appeared on his forehead as he buried his head in his hands. He needed to go back to his dorm room, and fast.

He peeked at the hallway. Nobody was there, no figure was following him. His breathing wouldn't turn even again, and he started shaking.

Reality didn't seem real anymore.

He desperately tried making his brain conscious again and work on a plan, so he can go back to the common room. Fast.

He forced himself to get up and start running, and once he got up, he fell - flew, actually - back. A crack was heard from his arm, and he winced at the sound. It was probably broken.

"Well, look what we have here." A voice echoed through the hallway. Licorus looked up and saw a man with pointed shoes, a black hat and a long mustache staring at him.

Licorus could barely breathe, panic overwhelming him. He tried getting up, but the man placed his foot on Licorus' chest, not allowing him to do so.

Licorus' face swelled with fear as he stared up at the man, who was giving him a huge grin. At this moment, he realized how familiar the figure looked. His skin seemed extremely pale in the moonlight seeping from the windows, and he had long, black hair which was tied up in a bun at the nape of his neck.

Licorus attempted to get the man's foot off of him and run, but the man was quick to action. With one swift move, he moved his other leg and slammed it down onto Licorus' injured arm. Licorus' let out a high-pitched shriek as he no longer felt his arm again.

Licorus closed his eyes as tears began to seep out of them. He'd lost hope in returning back, actually. The man bent down slowly before placing his mouth on Licorus' neck. Licorus didn't think much of it until he felt the man's sharp incisors dig into his skin - and then everything went pure black.
