Izuku is trying
Izuku likes to think himself practical, and he is, mostly. He finally realized that he would not be a traditional hero, or even a hero at all really. He picked a practical study subject, one he was good at, but that could still have an impact. He made sure it was close to his mother, but not so close that he would always want to run home. He made sure to eat well, exercise some, and make some new friends.
So why did his brain keep trying to say that the hottest man in the country could be into him?! Hope is a curse, Izuku decides as he checks his phone for probably the twelfth time in as many minutes. No new messages, just yesterday's still.
Izuku's last message still sits unopened:

Any big jobs today? Or just rescuing damsels in distress?
Izuku sighes and puts his phone away, determined to not look at it until he has finished his homework. It's for a real prickly professor, about quirk ethics regarding mutant types and whether or not the laws regarding them are fair. Izuku knows his teacher, a mutant type himself, will be extra sensitive about anything written.
Izuku looks at the blank document on his computer. The outline is due tomorrow and despite being passionate about how unjustly people are treated he just cannot focus. All he can think about is Shoto, (he told him to call him Shoto so it is fine). How he came to thank him, and then when Izuku got overly emotional he did not shut down, he simply wiped a tear away. How kind he was, and how steady his gaze was.
It had been an accident running into Shoto again. Izuku had actually been trying to literally run away from those thoughts when he saw the beautiful man sadly eating at a stall. Izuku had told himself not to go over, but he had. He even attempted to flirt! And now they text sometimes! Usually in the middle when Izuku should be sleeping but it was Shoto! A rising star among heroes, and gorgeous to top everything off.
At that moment his phone went off with a little *chirp*. All rational and resolve about homework was immediately forgotten as Izuku, fumbling gets his phone.

Izuku's fingers fly to reply. His mouth is dry at the thought of Shoto carrying him like a damsel in distress. Held in strong arms against Shoto's lean body, looking up at his face, as Shoto smiles down at him.

Well I'm no damsel, but you did help with the distress.
Izuku groans at himself. Why is he so damn hopeful? He considers unsending the message, until he notices Shoto is already typing back.

Oh, right. So one of my classmates, back when I was in school, told me I was funny and snarky. Most of the “snark” he was referring to though was me asking what I thought were direct questions.

Izuku cannot breathe. Did Shoto just call him cute? Is this real life?
