Albus was going to sum up what had happened, Potter really was a magnet for the bad things that had happened to him all in...what...like 2 weeks of school? He couldn't make Severus have 4 heart attacks a day because of the boy and to be honest, Harry also had to gain independence and strength, after all the prophecy made by Trewlaney couldn't be in vain. It was better that he didn't say the specifics, only that it had been a small confrontation between Slytherin and Gryffindor. After all, he liked to keep things small, there was no point in drowning in a glass of water.
Gayle quickly left when the three of them were out of danger and promised not to say anything to Severus, it really hadn't been that bad, a bit of drooling there and a bit of drooling there. Typical schoolboy stuff. The golden trio, for their part, headed for the library to try to study absolutely everything that Harry had missed and that Ron was already struggling to understand, it was better to let it go. Besides, it wasn't Harry who should be dealing directly with these matters, but Oliver, for that was why he was the leader of the team. Although he couldn't deny that it had made him angry that his dad was coordinating the same training time with Slytherin, pure waste of time.
He was on his way to meet his father to go with Poppy after school and here he was in a secret corridor waiting for him, looking bored and playing with a little light the twins had taught him how to make. It changed colours and the idea was to touch it with the wand to generate a mini explosion of fireworks.
"I really missed that game, I haven't seen it for over 10 years".
"Sev...professor! "
"Relax, I'm the only one who knows this corridor, only me and my generation know it".
"Ah well, being so, I have to confess that it has been a lot of fun, especially with Lockhart's classes".
"Well, I don't want a super distracted boy either, something he say should do the trick? "
"No dad, not a 000.1% of what he says is really any good."
"Well, I thought so. I heard something Albus said to me about slytherin, gryffindor and something called quidditch this morning."
Harry froze. The nagging and gossip could be endless.
"I...I don't really know what to say."
"It was good that you didn't react to Malfoy's provocations and especially when he got physical with Granger and shoved her. Albus said you had defused the situation by using the dialogue."
Well, let's assume it's all true. Is it sarcasm, some kind of bad joke, or did Dumbledore really tell him that? Harry leaned back against the wall and put his hand to his mouth to bite his fingernail. Evasion Techniques 101.
"It's a lie what I heard from the Headmaster? Minnie was also very happy about your maturity and expected nothing less from you after last week."
"No, it's not a lie..., I just thought you were going to scold me...for intervening, it would have been best to leave and not provoke anyone."
"It's OK, I'm proud of you and your friends. Now...ready? I just wanted to clear that up."
"Well, erm, thank you. I really feel ready. I think I'm a little scared to go back to the immunotherapy injections and stuff but I'm willing to do it, I want to be able to get better."
"But look at what young Evans is turning into."
"Shhh, Dad, someone can hear us."
"Your word really wasn't very appropriate either, young man."
They both laughed as they left the corridor and headed for the infirmary.
Shots, beloved shots that made his fingers ache, well let's not exaggerate, but they were not pleasant. All for the sake of health as Poppy said. There had been 3 of them and really her father's kisses on the head hadn't done much good, although she couldn't deny it, he was cute.
After that they sat on the sofa in the rooms and drank hot chocolate with marshmallows, that makes anyone feel better. In the meantime he finished his blessed infinite essay and handed it gloriously to his father, just as if it had been a great trophy. Severus simply dispatched him to his desk as they relaxed.
"You can go to your rooms tonight."
"Really?!"
"Oh yeah, don't look so surprised I'm only doing it because Granger asked me in secret and said it would be better if I took my all-seeing eye off protecting my son."
"Did she really tell you that?
"Well it was something about me being too overprotective and you needing your teenage space, I get it, it's true, I just want Winky to keep an eye on you in the mornings and don't forget to take your medication."
"I won't."
"Promise..."
"I promise, okay, I think it's excellent that we can have this level of conversation without you slamming the door in my face."
"I'm sorry about that, you know?"
"Winky had to fix the hinges on your door."
"I'm really sorry, it won't happen again."
"Seriously Harry, I passed because you had just had a bad episode, but first and last time. I will not accept such behaviour again do you understand me?"
"Yes sir."
"Perfect. Now, go to bed. I have to grade all that, your essay and.."
"It's 5 o'clock dad. In fact I have to go to the dining hall with my friends to...eat."
"(Severus laughed softly) I'm sorry, go and be free, I want you back by 7 o'clock, you know you have to keep your detention hours with your beloved Professor Lockhart.
"Oh please, don't mention it."
"Lockhart, the best professor in all of Hogwarts."
"I don't like him, you know."
"Oh yes, we all do, Golden Boy."
"Don't call me that!..."
Severus simply laughed as Harry left his rooms on his way to the dormitory.
Harry stood frozen, staring at the school grades in his hands. How could he have been so foolish? He had risked so much by using his magic outside of school, the problem with the Anglia and now he had a bad grade in the record book.
Severus noticed Harry's sudden stillness and frowned. "Harry, what's wrong?" he asked, stepping closer.
Harry shook his head, unable to form words. He had relied on his abilities to achieve the excellent marks given by the punishment, but he had failed to do so. Severus took the paper from him and began to read.
Severus' frown deepened as he read through the pages. This was worse than he had thought. Harry had been doing terrible in his grades more than he should have been, and he had even performed a serious problem fighting with Malfoy .
"Harry, do you realize how disappointed and terrible this is?" Severus said, his voice low and serious.
Harry nodded, his eyes downcast.
"Have you been like this all semester? And here I thought you were doing great..., how many lies I believed you. ?" Severus asked, looking Harry .
Harry shook his head, but as he did so, a sharp pain shot through his chest. He gasped, clutching at his chest as he struggled to catch his breath.
Severus' eyes widened in alarm. " what's wrong? Are you having an asthma attack?" he asked, his tone urgent.
Harry nodded, gasping for air. Severus quickly led Harry to a nearby armchair and helped him sit down.
Severus knelt down in front of Harry and began to coach him through his breathing, helping him take deep, slow breaths. Harry leaned forward, resting his head in his hands as he struggled to catch his breath.
Severus rubbed Harry's back soothingly, murmuring words of comfort as he helped him through the attack. Finally, Harry's breathing began to slow and his chest stopped heaving.
Severus helped Harry sit up straight and handed him his inhaler. "You need to be more careful, Potter. " he said sternly.
"I'm sorry," Harry said, his voice hoarse from the attack.
Severus sighed and rubbed his forehead wearily. "I know you are. But you need to understand the consequences of your actions.I'll send you back to the Dursleys, I expected more from you. I don't love you anymore ."
Harry nodded, feeling the weight of his mistakes heavy on his shoulders.
Severus stood up and placed a hand on Harry's shoulder. "I'm scolding you and punish you, I'm doing it because I care about you. I want to see you grow into a responsible and mature wizard."
Harry looked up at Severus, tears in his eyes. "Im so sorry . I'm sorry for letting you down," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.
Severus gave Harry's shoulder a gentle squeeze. "You need to learn from your mistakes and take responsibility for your actions."
Harry nodded, feeling a sense of sadness wash over him. He knew that he was lucky to have Severus as a mentor and a father figure, and he was determined to make him proud. But unfortunately he was so incompetent that he didn't make it, he would always be the stupid Potter.
As they sat in comfortable silence, Harry realized that he had not found a home. A place where he was loved and cared for, and where he belonged had disappeared.
Harry cried bitterly and so deeply that he woke up with a blow to his face.
