Days After Death
Summary
Harry was seventeen when he died. It was a young age, but it was older than anyone expected him to live up to given the circumstances of all that he went through. Harry is forty-eight now, going on forty-nine. He is a husband. He is a father of three children, just grown out of their teenage years. He is a wizarding hero. He saved the world. Now the world doesn’t need saving. The world doesn’t need him. Harry thinks, and he’ll never, ever say it to anyone, but he thinks that day when he was killed, he should’ve stayed dead. He really should’ve stayed dead. - a deeper exploration into Harry's trauma following the events of the series, because lord knows Joanne did not do as well as she could've in that area at all.

Harry gets his reply from James sometime around midday, and almost discards it as another annoying nag from work before he realises there’s no Ministry seal on it.

Dear Dad,

No worries about that, I thought that may be the case. I got a late hearing on Friday, so I don’t think I’ll be able to make it unfortunately, but we’ll work out something soon.

Teach Lils some neat tricks, yeah? She’ll get easily bored if there aren’t any rules to bend so just pretend to be stricter than you are and then inconspicuously let slip some minor things for Lily to break. She’s innately rebellious and I don’t doubt that she’ll change in the workplace. Mum will have her head (and yours!) if she gets into too much trouble, so be sure to take the burn for her. I also don’t want to have to go through the potential pain of prosecuting her.

Don’t feel too pressured or guilty to visit, I know you’re busy. Maybe next time will be right.

Love,
James

PS. Keep sweets in your office too, I bet Lily will love them. And by sweets I mean a bigger variety than toffee. Maybe… some chocolate?

Harry smiles when he’s finished, feeling some of the weight he’s been carrying ease from his shoulders. He folds the letter out and tosses it. He later puts it in his calendar to book a visit to Sugarplum's Sweet Shop the day after.
