Not as bad as you assumed

Merope and Isolt are discussing how her brother's unexpected visit went.
Isolt smiled. "Well, that went much better than we both could have hoped for."
Merope asked, "Do you reckon that he meant the apology, Issy?"
Isolt nodded. "Yes, I do. He seemed sincere to me."
Merope pondered, "I wonder if our father knows about his visit..."
Isolt put a reassuring hand on her girlfriend's shoulder. "Even if your father does know about your brother coming here to see you, I will be here to protect you if he tries to lay a finger on you."
Merope beamed, "I love you for that."
