From a Tomcat’s perspective
Summary
“There’s no food, master doesn’t love me anymore and isn’t coming back.. if only, I could hear his voice one last time..”

Tom lets out a small meow as he lays in front of the door. He uses his claws to make tiny scratches on the wood.

He can’t believe it.

Harry and he have been together ever since Tom was a little kitten. Harry found him on the street right after his mother died giving birth to him. He gave Tom a name, fed him and took care of him for as long as Tom could remember.

So why has he left?

Did Tom do something wrong? Is Harry angry at him? Was it because he scratched Hermione last week?

That wasn’t his fault, she shouldn’t have touched his tail! No one is allowed to do that, no one except Harry..

It feels like it’s been days..

Tom paces next to his food tray and lets out a small whine as he pushes against it. Still nothing, it’s empty and he’s hungry. Why hasn’t Harry refilled it? Doesn’t he know Tom gets cranky when there’s no food? Why isn’t Harry back yet to give him more?

Deciding there’s no use staying in the kitchen, he goes back to the living room to lie on the sofa on one of the pillows. It’s his favourite pillow, it’s the softest one and Harry made it especially for him, there’s even his name on it with a little cat paw next to it!

Harry.. Tom sighs as he stretches across the entire pillow. His human, his beautifully perfect human, why has his human left?

..does Harry perhaps not love him anymore?

..no. Tom is perfect, it would be impossible not to love him. Why would Harry suddenly stop loving him when he’s loved him unconditionally for so many years? Despite all Tom’s mischief, Harry never left him, he never hurt him and he always gave Tom as many belly rubs as the day before. There’s no way Harry doesn’t love him anymore, there’s no way unless.. was Tom scratching Hermione really the straw that broke the camel’s back? Or was it because of the lamp he broke a few days ago? Or the vase last week..?

..does Harry hate him now?

Tom hears his own stomach growl loudly. From his position on the couch, he looks at his dinner tray in the kitchen and lets out another high-pitched meow.

“There’s no food, master doesn’t love me anymore and isn’t coming back.. if only, I could hear his voice one last time..” is the last thing Tom thought before he lowered his eyelids, the image of the white door in front of him slowly turning black.

Tom wakes up when he hears a familiar set of keys jingle from behind the door. He immediately jumps off the couch and runs to the door, scratching against it and meowing loudly.

After a bit of struggling from the other side, the door opens.

When Tom tilts his head to look at the other’s face, he lets out another series of high-pitched meows.

It’s Harry, his human is back! Harry is back!

Tom is happy again and he makes sure to stay close to his human as they walk to the kitchen, rubbing his head and sides against Harry’s legs and almost making him trip by walking between them.

He sees Harry smile at him while putting his keys and a filled plastic bag on the kitchen table.

Harry kneels and sits on the floor, holding his arms out for Tom to jump in them.

Tom takes his chance and doesn’t hesitate to get on his human’s lap. He rubs his fuzzy face all over Harry, trying to show him Tom missed him a lot.

He hears his human laugh and say something in the human language Tom still doesn’t fully understand. “Jesus Tom, I was only away for fifteen minutes.”

Putting Tom on the floor, Harry stands up and takes one of the cat food-filled cans out of the plastic bag. He opens it and then puts it on the floor for Tom to eat.

Tom eagerly starts lapping up the cat food without spilling anything, because while he may be a cat, he’s a decent one with manners. Meanwhile, Harry resumes petting Tom. “I’m sorry, they didn’t have your favourite, we’ll have to order it online again. I hope you don’t mind this one? It was expensive though not as expensive as the food you usually eat.”

When Tom is done eating, Harry picks him up again and carries him to the couch.

“You’re a spoiled kitty aren’t you?” Harry says while cuddling with Tom, his cat laying on his chest and a hairy tail occasionally slapping him across his face.

Tom responds by nuzzling Harry’s neck.

“I missed you too Tomcat..”

Tom purred contently, feeling safer than ever, in his Harry’s arms.
