Goodbyes and Glittering Nights

It was an early Saturday morning. The aqua-haired drone slept peacefully in her bed until her alarm went off. Smacking her forehead, she sat up yawning. Her eyes opened and she looked around.

Her room was bathed in a soft glow of sunlight.

Kiwi's dorm room had a cozy eclectic vibe and was filled with personal touches. Above her bed, a collection of photos, drawings, and quotes she found made great wall hangings. Photos of her friends, her pet fish, and quotes from her favorite scientists.

The desk to the far right of the room, near the window had a small plant on it, sitting right next to it was her laptop, closed waiting to be used. On the desk were stationary, and books blending a mix of study and creativity. A few strings of fish-themed fairy lights hung up around the room. Casting a mix of light blue, green, and silver glow in the room. The curtain was thin and blue, imitating ocean waves, and letting in natural light.

The floor was strewn with a few rugs, giving a homey feel to the room.  A small light purple bean bag lay opposite where her bookshelf sat. Kiwi nodded to herself as she looked around. She tossed off her blue blanket getting up. Slipping on her slippers.

She turned around, making the bed, she stretched again, letting out a few sighs as her joints cracked slightly.

She looked over to her closet deciding what to wear that day. She chose a blue and black striped sweater and a dark blue skirt. She put on her light blue and black leg warmers, adjusting her black combat boots that were a gift from Rose on her 17th birthday. She looked in the mirror brushing out the locks of aqua hair.

She let it fly around her shoulders instead of having it in a messy bun like she normally did. She smiled slightly and adjusted the locket attached to her neck.

Checking her phone, she saw a message from Finley to meet up in Sohpie's room for a morning rendevous.

Kiwi grabbed her laptop and notebooks, figuring she could do some homework in Sophie's dorm, gently putting the items in her bag. Kiwi looked around the room one more time, before leaving the cozy dorm room, and heading out into the quiet hallway.

It was early in the morning and people were most likely out or still asleep. Kiwi quietly walked down the hallway towards Sophie's room when she suddenly bumped into someone.

"Oh Kiwi good morning!" N's cheery voice made it into Kiwi's receptors. Kiwi looked up at N and noticed he was still in his pajamas. He had a small bag tucked underneath his arm. It must have toiletries.

"Morning N" Kiwi greeted, she noticed N wearing a light yellow shirt with a golden retriever on it, and matching pajama bottoms. His tail swinging slightly behind him.

"Where are you heading off this early in the morning?" He questioned tilting his head.

"I'm heading to Sophie's for a hangout. What about you?" Kiwi asked.

"Oh I'm gonna go brush my teeth before heading off into town to visit Tessa" N chirped.

"I see, well I'll talk to you later N" Kiwi waved as N headed off towards the boy's bathroom. Kiwi headed towards Sophie's dorm room. She opened the door, she could smell warm oil, and see batteries and little metal chips on the counter in a bowl.

"Morning Kiwi, there's metal chips and batteries, and fresh oil in the pot" Sophie stated as she was adjusting the collar of her dress in a mirror in the living room. Finley was sitting on the couch with the TV on, scrolling through her phone at the latest news and such.

Kiwi got a mug and poured some of the warm oil into the mug, slowly sipping it. She savored the taste, it had this earthy coffee imitation taste.

"Ahh warm oil, just what I needed to finish waking up. What kind of oil is this?"

"It's a special blend my parents sent me, I'm not sure which kind though" Sophie stated as she finished adjusting the bows in her hair.

Finley hummed before speaking. "Hey guys, Thad's throwing a going away party for Jessie, to celebrate what her life was" Finley showed the screen to the other two drones. Kiwi looked at the invite and nodded slightly.

"You going to go?" Kiwi asked, crossing her arms.

"Of course, I am, Thad's my bro, and honestly I think you two should come along. It has been a week with all the homework and studying, and then Jessie's death, it's the perfect time for a party" Sophie squealed clapping her hands.

"A party sounds super fun!"

"Ehhh, I'm not sure a party is a right call" Kiwi kept her arms crossed and looked away. Finley sat up on the couch and looked at her.

"Oh come on Kiwi, it'll be fun, and when was the last time you were out anyway? Lighten up" Finley stated. Kiwi frowned and sighed.

"Fine, I'll go" Finley and Sophie hugged the drone and giggled. Kiwi rolled her eyes and finished her drink in her hand.

Time had passed and it was late in the night, around 7:30. Sophie and Finley were rushing to finish their outfits. Kiwi was waiting with her phone in her hands. All she did was put on black leggings underneath her skirt. She waited for the two drones to finish adjusting their outfits.

Sophie wore a red strapless sparkly dress that hugged her figure well. Finley wore a My Chemical Robots shirt with ripped black jeans and her combat boots. The three drones left the dorms getting into Finley's red pickup truck.

Finley started the car and drove off towards Thad's house. The drive was quiet except for the sound of soft music playing on the radio. Eventually, they arrived at Thad's house, getting out of the truck, the trio made their way towards the house.

Thad's house was alive energy as the party unfolded. The air was filled with laughter and the clinking of glasses, a mix of voices, blending into a lively hum. Colorful string lights twinkled overhead, casting a warm glow over the crowd.

In the living room, groups of drones huddled around a board game. Some drones lounged on the couch drinking from red solo cups. The kitchen was bustling as well, with plates of food appropriate for a party. Batteries, metal chips, pieces of metal shaped like pizza. Food fit for drones.

Outside on the patio, a fire crackled, and drones sat around roasting pieces of metal, and telling stories. Thad floated throughout the house, checking in on everyone, and making sure drinks were being passed out. Thad waved to Finley as the three women arrived inside.

"Hey ladies, nice to see you guys, there are snacks in the kitchen, drinks are over there, and well, enjoy the party! I gotta go greet more guests" Thad patted Finley's shoulder as he went to greet more drones arriving. Sophie and Finley left Kiwi alone as they headed towards their separate groups. Kiwi went to get a drink of regular non-spiked oil.

Suddenly the disassembly drones from earlier walked into the living room, towering over many of the drones there. N, V, and J looked around. V went over to Finley beginning to talk to her. J scoffed and went to get a drink. N looked around adjusting his coat slightly, before he saw Kiwi and went over to her.

"Hey, Kiwi!" N greeted waving at her, Kiwi blinked slightly and looked at N, her visor showing some blush.

"Hey N, I didn't realize you'd be coming to the party"

"Oh I mean, I wasn't originally, but V insisted I come out and hang I guess" N rubbed the back of his neck, Kiwi nodded and sipped her drink. Thad came over handing a cup of oil to N.

"Relax dude, enjoy the party!" Thad chuckled and walked off towards V and Finley. N looked at the oil and then began to drink it, a grin formed on his face as he sipped the oil.

"This is some delicious oil!" A small X formed on N's face as he continued to drink the oil with vigor. Kiwi watched with curiosity etched onto her face.

Suddenly Lizzy and Rebecca bumped into Kiwi on purpose making her spill some of the oil in her cup onto her hands and a bit on her sweater. N watched before glaring at the girls.

"Hey, excuse you, ladies, that wasn't very nice!" N frowned slightly, and the girls just giggled whispering something mean about Kiwi, before walking off. Kiwi looked at her hands and sweater frowning slightly. No looked down at Kiwi, before producing a small handkerchief out of his coat pocket, beginning to help wipe her hands. "You okay?"

Kiwi looked up and nodded slowly.

"Good!" N threw the handkerchief in the trash and the pair stared at each other before they both headed out onto the patio and sat by the fire. The drones that were there noticed N, and quickly scurried off back into the house, leaving the pair alone.

"Does it always get tiring when drones do that?" Kiwi questioned as she sat down. N hummed thinking about it for a moment.

"It kinda does yeah. I want to make friends like any other drone, but it's difficult yeah" Kiwi felt saddened by this, and looked at N with a look of pity.

"If it helps I'll be your friend, N" Kiwi smiled at him, N blushed and used his cap to cover his face.

"T-thanks Kiwi" Kiwi nodded and then watched as Doll came out holding a red solo cup of what looked to be oil. Doll handed said cup to Kiwi, and Kiwi took it.

"Thanks, Doll" Doll nodded quietly and went back inside to Lizzy and V. Lizzy was talking with J and V, who were both sipping on oil. Kiwi glanced at the oil before sipping on it. The oil had this odd aftertaste. She downed it fast though.

"You okay Kiwi? You look a little flushed" N stated as he felt Kiwi's forehead. She wasn't burning up, but did look a little out of it.

"I think someone gave me fermented oil instead of normal oil" N laughed and patted her back.

"A lightweight are we?" Kiwi elbowed him pretty hard and he made a small oof noise.

"Shut up!" N snickered and watched her. Kiwi blushed in embarrassment.

N then looked at Kiwi with a serious expression.

"I don't make you uncomfortable do I Kiwi?" he asked honestly.

"No, you don't, you're just like any other drone to me N" Kiwi waved her hand smiling. N looked at her with a look of astonishment, no one had told him that before. It made him feel nice honestly.

"T-thanks Kiwi, you're too kind"

"I mean it though N, you're very kind and sweet," Kiwi said blushing furiously. The pair sat in silence and then looked up at the glittering sky. Kiwi started pointing out constellations and the stars. N listened intently. The pair sat talking a bit more, enjoying each other's company.
