Prologue
"And this is why Marie Antoinette lost her head. Do you have any questions?" Mr. Codsworth, an older drone with graying brown hair and dark green eyes, asked as he finished writing on the board. None of the young adults in the class raised their hands, most were bored out of their minds.
A younger drone with aqua-colored hair doodled in a notebook after she finished writing down the notes from the board. The bell rang, and Mr. Codsworth spoke again.
"Your papers on the French Revolution are due this Friday. Do not forget please" his voice droned on, the young adult drones all got up, grabbed their bags and various items leaving the classroom. The aqua-haired drone stayed behind packing up her things. Mr. Codsworth came over and set a paper on her desk.
"Well done, Miss Rosengarde, another A." The young adult drone took the paper from the older drone, thanking him quietly. She got up and headed out of the classroom. Adjusting the white face mask on her face, she headed into the packed hallway.
The young drone bobbed between other drones who were laughing and throwing paper balls all around.
"Kiwi there you are!" Kiwi turned around and noticed a taller drone with red and pink hair, with soft blue glowing eyes coming up to her and hugging the smaller drone. Kiwi patted the girl's back and smiled slightly underneath the mask.
"Hey Soph. How was your drama class?" Kiwi asked her best friend Sophie.
"Oh, it was just spectacular. The drama club is putting on Romeo and Juliet! I got picked to be Juliet. We just need a Romeo" Sophie beamed as she let go of Kiwi. The pair of drones walked down the hallway, heading out of the main building together.
"That's good, I'm sure they'll find you a suitable Romeo. Hey, look there's Finley. Hey Fin!" Kiwi waved to another taller drone with moss-green hair and striking purple eyes. This drone was talking to a boy with silvery blonde hair. That was Thad, a popular jock.
Finley looked over, before fist-bumping Thad and heading over to the other two drones.
"Hello ladies, how were your classes?" Finley asked as they walked beside Kiwi. Kiwi glanced up at Finley.
"Oh they were fine, but I am so ready for the day to be over" she groaned slightly. "My last class is coding, which is my favorite class. But it's so easy that I basically could teach the class itself"
"Isn't that what you do though?" Sophie asked laughing slightly.
"I mean... yeah I do, 'cause the teacher is lazy..." Kiwi's visor showed some multicolored blush lines as she was embarrassed. Finley and Sophie laughed, patting Kiwi's back. The three continued to walk out of the building and towards the outside. A fountain with a drone and a human holding hands statue came into view. Students sat in the grass talking, studying, or doing extra activities.
Kiwi looked up seeing the sun hide behind the clouds. It was a perfect day.
"Did you guys hear we're getting some new students?" Sophie suddenly asked.
"New students? Really? In the middle of the semester?" Kiwi raised a digital brow.
"Yep! And I heard they're really cool and super-rich" Sophie smiled. Leave it to Sohpie to be the first one to hear about this.
"As long as they're not prissy assholes, I don't really care who they are" Finley stated putting her hands behind her head as she walked.
"I'm a little curious, in all honesty," Kiwi said as she held her messenger back close to her. Finley and Sophie talked above her head about something she couldn't care less about. Kiwi pondered what the new students would be like. They were most likely worker drones.
Kiwi suddenly bumped into someone way taller than her. She squeaked loudly and fell back onto the ground, dropping her messenger bag in the process. She rubbed her backside and looked up, squinting at who she bumped into.
"Hey! Watch it, you sentient fork." An older drone with platinum pigtails and a suit and tie barked out. What made Kiwi gasp and her pupils hollow out was that this wasn't a normal drone but a disassembly drone! Kiwi blinked a bit and squeaked slightly as the disassembly drone glared at her.
"Oh... I'-I'm so so sorry!" Kiwi quickly apologized. The pigtail droned scoffed and walked off, as a male disassembly drone with fluffy silvery white hair wearing a black winter coat with a fur collar, black belt, and what looked to be a pilot's hat. The guy's yellow eyes showed a look of concern as he held his out to Kiwi.
"Oh biscuits, are you alright miss?" He seemed genuinely concerned, Kiwi blushed in embarrassment and shakily took his hand. He pulled her up with such force, that Kiwi stumbled a bit bumping into him. He held her hand to steady her. Kiwi glanced up at him.
"S-sorry!"
"Oh please don't apologize, it's alright!" The boy let go of Kiwi as she stood on her own. The boy motioned his hand in a saluting manner. "I'm Serial Designation N! Or you can just call me N, it's nice to meet you!" He chirped, seeming awfully cheerful.
Kiwi stared at the drone and nodded slightly. The girl with pigtails smacked him in the back of the head.
"Come on idiot, we gotta go pick up our packets from the office" N sheepishly smiled and followed the pigtailed girl waving goodbye to Kiwi. Another girl with a bob cut style wearing a black-gray, short-sleeved crop coat with a fur collar and cuffs, and a black scard walked past Kiwi. She glared at Kiwi and Kiwi looked down squeaking softly.
Kiwi bent down to grab her bag as Finley and Sophie quickly came over to her.
"Kiwi are you alright?!" Sophie checked her over.
"I-I'm fine, just a little startled. I think those are our new students though" Kiwi watched the murder drones walk off to the office building.
"You're telling me, but did you see how cool they looked?" Finley stated. Sophie glared at Finley.
"They're disassembly drones! Aren't they known for doing murder and stuff?" Sophie crossed her arms.
"Welllll not technically. Not anymore at least. Not since they passed that law a few years ago" Kiwi stated as she dusted off her skirt.
"Well still. I don't trust them!" Sophie huffed.
"Did you see the tall one though?" Kiwi asked, looking at the pair.
"Which one, they're all tall" Finley deadpanned.
"The boy, his name is N I think?" Kiwi stated a light blush appearing on her visor.
"Yeah I saw him alright, he's the one who helped you up right? I don't trust him either" Finley stated. Kiwi sighed and nodded slightly. She glanced back at the drones before they disappeared into the building.
"Come on Kiwi, we gotta head to our last classes of the day" Sophie put a hand on Kiwi's shoulder guiding her to the science building.
Kiwi snapped out of her thoughts and followed heading to her coding class.
As she got into the classroom though, she noticed the teacher was passed out at her desk. She noticed the lesson plan on the podium and sighed nodding to herself. She'd be teaching the class again.
As everyone got to their assigned computers and settled down, Kiwi began to start the class. Until the dean Dr. Lopez came in.
"Ah, Miss. Rosengarde, just the drone I wanted to see! I see you're teaching the class again" Dr. Lopez smiled, and Kiwi nodded slightly.
"I am sir"
"Good, good. I wanted to introduce you to one of our newest students, come in my boy" N the disassembly drone from earlier came in, smiling at Kiwi. Kiwi opened her mouth slightly and stared at him. "N will be in your coding class, and I would like you to help him catch up. Is that alright Miss. Rosengarde" Kiwi looked over to the dean and nodded.
"Yes, that's alright, Dr. Lopez" Kiwi agreed.
"Thank you! Enjoy!" He left the room shutting the door behind him. Kiwi looked up at N and got off the podium. N stood there with papers in his hands. Kiwi took the paper gently from his hands double checking his schedule to make sure he was in the right spot.
"So... you teach this class? I thought the teacher did?" N questioned. "N-not to be rude or anything!" He held his hands up waving them slightly.
Kiwi laughed slightly and handed him the paper.
"No no, it's fine. Miss. Parkson usually sleeps and I'm a pretty experienced coder already, so I know what to do. Why don't you uh go take a seat in the back and I'll continue the class." N nodded and did as she said, some drones stared at him in shock, fear, or pure curiosity. Kiwi breathed a sigh of relief and began to continue teaching the class for the day.
