H̶e̶r̶e̶'s̶ t̶h̶e̶ t̶h̶i̶n̶g̶: I̶ c̶a̶n̶'t̶ d̶o̶ a̶n̶y̶t̶h̶i̶n̶g̶ r̶i̶g̶h̶t̶

Waking up at Hogwarts everyday was... bland, to say the least, for it were always the same curtains, the same groggy noises from his roommates and the same bad life and especially family situation.

Hogwarts may be a place where his parents weren't physically there, however it didn't mean that they weren't informed about most things. So, in conclusion, Hogwarts was just a bigger cage with more possibilities for him.

Though Regulus was sure that many would disagree, especially the muggleborns that studied here. For them, it wasn't normal to see magical animals or stay up late for classes to look at stars.

He was also pretty sure that flying up high with fast wooden vehicles to throw weirdly named balls at hoops was not really normal for non magical people.

Instead, they had something called 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘴.

Highly interesting things, in Regulus' humble opinion. Driving very fast whilst sitting comfortably sounded like a dream to him. He was a Quidditch player, so he only knew the broomstick that would leave bruises and the cold air, burning in his eyes.

A̶n̶d̶ I̶'m̶ n̶o̶t̶ y̶o̶u̶r̶ p̶r̶o̶t̶a̶g̶o̶n̶i̶s̶t̶, I̶'m̶ n̶o̶t̶ e̶v̶e̶n̶ m̶y̶ o̶w̶n̶

His parents would hex him if they knew he knew such things, which is why he could never do any research at home, but Lily Evans, the muggleborn that was in a study group with him, once had a little figurine of a car with her. It was that of a brand new Porsche 911 Turbo that had just been released. It was a poisonous green and he instantly fell in love with it.

He first noticed it when it fell out of Lily's bag, handed it to her and from that moment on couldn't take his eyes off of it.

Now, someone could wonder. 'Regulus Arcturus Black, the Black Heir and soon to be Death Eater, in a study group with Lily Evans? A muggleborn, that, in his beliefs, isn't worthy of magic, and much worse things?' Well, there's a plausible explanation for that. Against contrary belief, he wasn't actually a blood supremacist.

Of course, he grew up with the wrong mindset that his parents pushed onto him, that Muggleborns were "Mudbloods" and not worthy of anything magic related, even worse, they were worth nothing and just like annoying insects. In his parents' opinion, halfbloods had a big flaw, but weren't that bad. "Pure Bloods" that interacted or even had relationships with Muggleborns however were despicable and disgusting "Blood Traitors", just as his parents called his now disowned brother.

Being told this over and over again by your parents since you were a toddler, of course you believe it.

But then he got to Hogwarts and started actually having a social life, realizing that there was no reason to hate Muggleborns for their bloodlines, especially as they most likely had a magic person in their family tree.

Magic ancestor or not, it didnt matter, for they were just what he was: a student at Hogwarts, trying their best to stay in school and get good grades.

Of course, he'd never dare to even think about voicing such thoughts, for his parents would disown, if not kill him in an instant. That might sound dramatic or hysterical, but considering their reaction to Sirius running away and, well, everything else about them as parents, it really isn't.

Sometimes, when he was all alone and just with his thoughts, he thinks about all that and, in relation, how cynical life has been towards him. Having such family but also this mindset, this opinion. It really wasn't easy for him, but it never had been.

M̶y̶ h̶e̶a̶r̶t̶ c̶a̶t̶c̶h̶e̶s̶ o̶n̶ e̶v̶e̶r̶y̶ t̶h̶o̶r̶n̶, y̶o̶u̶'r̶e̶ a̶l̶r̶e̶a̶d̶y̶ h̶a̶l̶f̶w̶a̶y̶ o̶u̶t̶ t̶h̶e̶ d̶o̶o̶r̶

Growing up, he was the second option. The plan B, the worst case scenario's solution. And he had always been seen as such. Whilst he didn't lack any self esteem or grace nor assertiveness, he wasn't as loud and opiniated and overall as 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩 as his brother had been.

Charismatic, noticed when walking into a room, good to make conversation with, all those skills that Sirius had had the perfect amount of, had been denied to him.

A̶n̶d̶ I̶’v̶e̶ n̶e̶v̶e̶r̶ l̶o̶o̶k̶e̶d̶ s̶o̶ o̶l̶d̶, a̶n̶d̶ I̶ h̶a̶v̶e̶ n̶e̶v̶e̶r̶ b̶e̶e̶n̶ s̶o̶ c̶o̶l̶d̶, an̶d̶ i̶t̶ i̶s̶ 8̶5̶ d̶e̶g̶r̶ees

His parents were disappointed and fuming when Sirius left, but even more, they were annoyed because now, Regulus was the heir. The one that would go unnoticed everywhere, the one that kept to himself and the one that was useless on social events since he couldn't even hold up a conversation for ten minutes.
