“Hello Frank, Alice. How are you guys?”
James could be heard greeting the Longbottom’s as she sat in the kitchen, feeding their five-month-old son. Lily looked down at Harry, as he had finally detached himself from her, and lifted him in a position so she could burp him. Once done, she placed him back in his miniature bassinet on the table and adjusted her blouse just as James walked in with Sirius in tow. James, the taller of the two walked over to the fridge and grabbed the bottle of Firewhisky as Sirius grabbed the carton of butterbeer for the younger ones not drinking. "Hello Frank, Alice.
“You doing alright, Lily flower?” Sirius asked, hoisting the carton up so he can look in the bassinet at the green-eyed baby. “Hello there Pronglset.” Sirius cooed at the baby. James and Lily gave each other a knowing look. Sirius would deny it if either brought it up; but Harry had softened the hardened would-be rebel.
“Alright Padfoot, let’s go put these drinks down so we can get the party started.” James gave Lily peck.
“Where’s my kiss?” Sirius asked Lily. James leaned over and pecked Sirius on the cheek.
“There, now come on” Sirius followed James, sulking as Lily laughed in the background.
“Alright Everyone! Gather around. The rules to this game are simple, everyone who’s not under the age of five picks a slip of parchment with a number on it. Once your number is called, you will come up and grab one of the wrapped parcels and open it. The next person can either steal that gift or pick one that’s still wrapped. That gift can only be stolen three times. Any questions? No? Alright then, who’s got number one?”
Lily looked at her parchment as Dorcas Meadowes walked up grabbed the biggest item on the table. It ended up being a box of Zonko’s gift shop, which James, who had number two took from her, allowing Dorcas to find another gift on the table. It went on like this until everyone got their gifts. After a few exchanges, everyone was happy with what they got.
Everyone had stayed for a few more hours, talking and just having a general good time; before it got late enough to put the kids to bed. Once everyone was gone, James grabbed Harry while Lily cleaned up to put him down for the night.
“… Forever after, the statue of Babbitty remains on top of the stump, and no witch or wizard is ever hurt in that kingdom ever again.”
Closing the book, James looked down at the dozing child on his chest. Smiling, he moved the book to the side and got out of the rocking chair, careful not to jostle the five-month-old and carefully placed him in his crib. James took a moment and watched Harry, reveling in the little noises that he made in his sleep. James leaned over the bars of the crib and placed a gentle kiss on the sleeping boys’ head before turning off the lights and walking out of the room.
Upon descending the stares, James could hear music playing softly in the living room. Peeking around the corner, he watched silently as Lily danced; a glass of Firewhisky in her hand.
He slowly snuck up behind her; and wrapped his arms around her waist and leaned his chin on her shoulder.
“Hello Mrs. Potter” he said, his voice came out husky. James couldn’t see her face, but he could till that Lily was smiling and his heart swelled knowing that he was the reason for it. The day that Lily stopped smiling would be the day the world ended.
“Dance with me?” Lily asks, as she put down her drink before turning so that they were facing each other. Before James could respond, she took his arms and wrapped them around her as she wrapped her own around his neck. They danced for a while; continuing long after the music stopped; just content to be there with one another. James lowered his arms and gave Lily’s side a squeeze, causing the one woman to giggle as she removed herself from his embrace.
“James, stop that, you know I’m ticklish” she said, crossing her arms in a mock glare. James raised his eyebrow and smiled mischievously.
“Oh, are you? I must’ve forgot” He moved toward her, wrapping his hands around her waist once more and gave it a squeeze, causing Lily to giggle once more. “Oh, there’s that beautiful smile again. Now I remember.”
Pushing Lily down on the carpet which had a protection spelled into it in the event Harry hurts himself; he straddled her thighs, continuing to poke and prod at her waste, hips, and belly.
“No, James!” Lily squealed, as she tried to reach for his hands. “Stop it! You’re going to wake, no!” she bucked as James squeezed a particular ticklish spot. “You’re going to wake the baby!” she got out as she burst into laughter.
“Nope. Sorry, silencing spell, remember? He can’t hear a damn thing.” he said gleefully, as he snaked his hands under her arms, wiggling his fingers furiously, causing Lily to squeal. He glanced at the baby monitor; his hands stilling a moment to make sure things were still quiet on Harry’s end. Once he was satisfied, he went back to tickling Lily. “Now, you know what to say.”
“Jahames!” Lily squealed, still futilely grabbing at his hands.
“Say it!” he said in a sing song voice.
“Fine, I’ll say it. I’ll say it!” she said through her laughter. James stilled his hands for a moment and smirked down at her.
“I’m waiting.”
Lily crossed her arms, pouting and rolled her eyes, causing James to squeeze playfully at her sides.
“Oh oh, Ohokay! James Potter is the sexiest and most amazing man among the Hogwarts population!”
James smiled triumphantly, and their eyes locked as he was still pretty close to her face. He leaned in to kiss her; but they were rudely interrupted.
“I’m sorry, I forgot my coat!” Sirius voice could be heard from above them. James and Lily looked up to see the man covering his eyes playfully. “Are you two decent?”
“Oh, sod off Padfoot!” James muttered as Lily threw one of the couch pillows at his head.
