A perfect night
James POV
“Prongs, You wanna come with us and get snacks?” Peter asks “Nah Pete I wish I could but I have astronomy homework” “that’s ok no worries I’ll save you a pumpkin tart” Pete smiled widely while we parted ways.
Most of my friends dropped astronomy as soon as they could, but not me. I’m not good at all, but I enjoy it so much. It’s so serene looking up at the sky and absorbing it all. Ascending the flights of stairs I hear someone. As I hit the top of the stairs there he is.
Regulus Black
Standing on the edge of the tower? Is he gonna jump? “Don’t do it!” I called out. Regulus turns around and sees me and just rolls his eyes. “I’m not gonna jump Potter.” “You sure? It looks like you were about to step off.” I was honestly concerned for him. “Are you gonna keep talking to me? If so, I'm leaving.” He stares at me coldly as ever. “No I’m just here to do homework, you can stay.” “Thanks for the permission, Potter.” He says sarcastically
God I’m messing this all up.
“I meant, please stay I won’t bug you” Regulus sits down staring up at the sky. I started my homework and got board really quick. “So… your whole family is named after stars right? Where’s your star?” “I thought you said you weren’t gonna just ask questions. How do you not know your in astronomy and have been for years.” He dose have me there… I said no more questions.
Regulus points to the brightest star in Leo “there’s my star.” While I was looking at his star he gets up and leaves. “Goodnig-“ I called till the door slam cut me off.
That went well? I guess I’ll just have to keep trying, he can’t ignore me forever.
——Third POV——
Weeks went by leading in to October. James kept coming back to the tower, much to Regulus dismay. Slowly Regulus came to enjoy James company. James was always there when Regulus was thanks to the map.
James was determined to reunite the Black brothers. But slowly he just wanted to be friends. Spending time with Regulus he didn’t have to put on a façade. As James ascends the astronomy tower stairs. There’s his new favorite person as always. “How do you always find me?” Regulus asked hiding his amusement. “ it’s just a coincidence…” James responds. James feels he shouldn’t tell him about the map because of the rest of his friends.
“So… have you seen Sirius lately?” James try’s to ask smoothly. “In the halls, I guess. Why?” Regulus is sceptical and isn't really sure if he should trust James. Especially because he’s been asking him about Sirius a lot. “Well he just wants to talk to you” James says “that’s bullshit if he wanted to talk to me, he wouldn’t cause fights every time.” Regulus may have sounded angry at the question. But in all reality, he’s really upset that his brother loves to fight with him. He misses the relationship they used
to have.
“Maybe you should just try to talk to him and h-“ “James stop. I’m done talking about him.” Regulus interrupts. They both stopped talking altogether, they laid there looking at the stars, just enjoying each other‘s company. As they had been doing for weeks now in secret. James turns to look at Regulus and speaks up. “Isn't the view really nice tonight?” “It’s a perfect night, no clouds blocking the stars” Regulus responds absentmindedly. James wasn’t sure if he meant the night sky or… something else, maybe someone else.
