Chapter 3
It had been tense nine years since the Potter’s lives had been destroyed. Sirius and Remus had fought Dumbledore countless times, five years after the incident, they had been limited to one court case per month after they had began having a court case every day for a fortnight. The husbands fought so hard for their godchildren and always lost; the damned old fool was too powerful, Remus had been in and out of the psychiatric ward dozens of times, the loss of Moony’s pack hitting the werewolf hard, Sirius had also been admitted a few times, the animagus had often had manic episodes in the past, however they got a lot worse after the loss of his godchildren and best friends. Dumbledore used this against the duo despite the fact it had been two years since Remus’ last admission and two and a half years since Sirius’ last one, they were on medications and were each having weekly appointments with their physiatrists. After a year and a half of feeling useless, the husbands decided they would be the ones the make sure the Dark Lord could never come back. They had been told a horcrux had attached itself to Hari’s soul, but Dumbledore had hidden the kids before they could get the goblins to detach it. The couple had gone hunting for evidence that he-who-shall-not-be-named had more horcruxes. It was during that hunt that they found that Regulus had died trying to do what they were doing, it had taken three years to complete. They had gone public with this information, hoping it would get them their godchildren, they showed proof and using their memories, it had been enough for the public to declare them Hero’s but not enough for Dumbledore to give them their Godchildren, but they had been told they could gain guardianship once they started Hogwarts. Dumbledore only decided this because there had been a public outcry. Remus had written books about their experience and about Voldemort, he urged people to not fear a name as it gave him power still, and giving him power was disrespectful against the victims, many of whom refused to let Voldemort dictate their life.
Remus had been working on other book when his husband began screeching his name and skidded around the corner into the living room.
“MOONY! MOONY!" Sirius Black bellowed, running around the renewed 12 Grimmwauld place madly, his black curls falling out of his bun as he looked for his mate.
“Yes my love? What is it?" Remus asked with a tired grin, as he put his book down.
The werewolf stood up from his overstuffed chair to place his hands on Sirius' shoulders in attempt to calm his husband down, Sirius didn’t stop bouncing on the balls of his feet and eagerly grabbed Remus’s arms, giggling like a maniac. “ I got floo call from St Mungos! James and Lily woke up! Rems they woke up!” Sirius had tears escaping his eyes and covered his mouth to muffle a sob, almost as if he couldn’t believe it himself.
Remus' face froze for a few seconds, he let out a breathless gasp, his hands moving from Sirius’ shoulders to his chest as he stared at his love before laughing loudly and a wide grin splitting open. Remus wrapped his arms tightly around his husband’s waist and spun him around, Sirius laughed into Remus’ shoulder, his hands tightly gripping Remus’s shirt. The two continued to hold onto each other laughing freely, letting themselves loose themselves to the pure joy they felt. Sirius’s lips crashed into Remus’s, hands moving to hold his face and Remus’ hands moving to Sirius’ hair, the kiss was messy, tears landing onto their lips, each man putting their raw joy into it. As they parted both man felt each other’s warm breath on each other’s face, Sirius wiped the tears of his face and laughed a wet laugh.
"Wha- we- c’mon!" Remus stuttered, still breathless and in slight shock.
Sirius let out a bark like laugh, and clasped his husband’s hand, the duo stumbled as they ran towards the fireplace, Sirius released Remus’ hand for a quick second to clumsily graba handful of floo powder- and dropped the rest of it, the container smashing against the hard floor- Sirius giggled sheepishly. Remus stared at Sirius with a fond smile, and despite, knowing the dangers of flooing with another adult, Remus didn’t protest when Sirius pulled him into the fireplace and dropped the floo powder and practically screamed “St. Mungos”
The pair then disappeared in the huge ball of green flames. After the feeling of being surrounded in heat, and they no longer felt like they were being pulled through a tiny tube, the pair fell out of the fireplace at the hospital. The husbands merely shouted their names at the front text, not bothering to check themselves in properly, not that it mattered, most of the nurses and doctors knew them by face as they visited at least once a day for the past ten years, even when they were in the mental health ward, the nurses still let them visit with supervision.
They skidded into the familiar white room, however instead of seeing the lifeless bodies of their best friends hooked up to so many different potion drips, this time their best friends were sitting up, nothing except a singular drip hooked up to them.
Sirius froze when he saw his pseudo brother sitting up grinning at him, however, just as he was about to throw himself at James; Sirius accidentally transformed into his animagus form in his excitement, bouncing around the hospital bed. Padfoot took no time jumping up onto the bed, licking James’ face, his tail wagging so fast, Remus wondered if the dog would take flight. James laughed heartily at his best friends action, scratching the dog’s ears and chin like he knew he liked.
"Dumb dog," Remus muttered fondly under his breath. It had taken a lot for Sirius to feel comfortable with allowing himself to feel, but once he did the short male found it impossible to hide his feelings form his best friends turned family, he learnt to lean on his trusted ones and to not be afraid to be emotionally vulnerable. Sirius was affectionate and wore his heart on his sleeve around his found-family, to those he wasn’t close to, he still wore a mask of always smirking, but to his husband and best friends he was emotional, he had learnt to be blunt when dealing with his emotions. Sirius had also learnt that it was easier to deal with his hard big emotions by just being a dog for a while.
While Padfoot laid against James’s body, his belly showing, allowing James to rub his belly and pet him, Jo’s head by James’ head, licking the man’s cheek continuously, Remus was greeting Lily, holding her closer than he’d ever held her before. Remus’ eyes once again welled up as he cupped the woman’s face and placed a soft kiss to her hair, Lily, too was crying, hiding her face in the werewolf’s shoulder. Half an hour passed with Remus and Lily holding each other and crying; Once Padfoot had felt safe enough to transform into his human self, the man was now sitting up from where he had been hugging James, locked eyes on Lily. Sirius fell into a brand new set of tears, he quickly moved to where Lily was, grabbed her hands tightly and sobbed, his head bowed and his knees threatening to buckle underneath him. Now with James without Sirius, Remus let himself walk towards James, cautiously the werewolf eyed James, of course James grinned his large grin and pulled Remus into a hug, consequently causing the werewolf to fall onto the bed, Remus tightened his hold of James and began unconsciously scenting him.
“You’re really awake…” Remus whispered, .
James didn’t even seem to hear his question, however still had a huge goody grin. Remus fell into a fit of sobs, leaning over the hospital bed rail and fiercely hugging his old friend. James looked over at Sirius and Lily, who were in a similar position as he and Remus were, the couple hadn’t had a chance to ask about anything that had happened, but they both knew it had been rough for the couple. After a couple more minutes of crying and hugging, Lily pulled the left bedrail down earning shocked looks from Sirius and Remus - who hadn’t figured out that they could do that - and patted the place next to her, James smiled softly at her and moved to lay next to her. Lily then curled up next to and half on her husband, James arms were around his wife’s body and his legs were awkwardly bent up, but he was comfortable.
After a moment of comfortable silence, Lily asked a series of questions. “How long were we out? what about the kids? are they okay? are they with you?"
Sirius averted his gaze, letting out a sad whine and hiding his head in Remus’ chest, said man opened and shut his mouth before signing sadly. James and Lily sat up straighter, the once comfortable atmosphere now so tense it was suffocating.
"Sirius? Remus?” Lily asked shakily, when she got no response, his voice dropped and became dangerously sharp “Where. Are. Our. Kids"
At the harsh tone of Lily, Sirius once again fell into a fit of tears, his sobbing only lasted less than a minute before he transformed into Padfoot, whimpering softly as he jumped off the bed and hid underneath it, his tail between his legs and ears down. Remus swallowed the lump in his throat, and choked back tears.
"We tried, w-we went to court and did everything, however, dumbledore- he holds too much power. He sent them to live with Petunia giving the bullshit excuse that it’s for their protection'," Remus said sadly, a new set of tears falling
"We fought them, I promise prongs.." Sirius whimpered, human again, still curled under the bed. James seemed confused, he was frowning but Remus knew by his reaction he hadn’t heard anything.
"PETUNIA!?" Lily roared, James didn’t react, only seeming more and mor confused.
Remus quickly felt the surge of magic that both radiated off the witch, and knew that when magic swirled and crackled like that, it was pure magic at it’s dangerous. Lily’s magic raged, the windows of their room shattered. Remus gave in to Moony’s urge to scent mark Sirius, to show any possible threats that Sirius was under Moony’s protection, Remus knew the woman was no threat: Moony, however, felt the anger in Lily’s magic.
The healers, hearing the commotion, had casted a powerful sedation spell on both the patients despite it only being Lily, rarely used due to the fact it made it impossible for the Wix to use their magic for 6 hours, however along with a sleepy charm, the couple would be asleep for at least 7 hours. James felt the effect immediately due to his magic being controlled at that moment, just before the spell took hold he blindly reached for Lily who was only just feeling the effects and was still grumbling sleepily about Dumbledore, after a couple minutes, both Lily and James were out cold. Padfoot whined, all too familiar with seeing his best matés unconscious on a hospital bed.
