Chapter 1
Harry grinned as he finished reading about magical contests. He had been reading about magical contracts because of the previous years' events. He also was sick of being forced to return to his so-called family. Dumbledore didn't want to listen to him. Sirius broke his promise and listened to the fashion mess of a headmaster. No one in the Order seemed to care about what had been happening each year in Hogwarts and after listening to Sirius' ideas of fun, he completely understood why Severus Snape hated his father as well as the rest of the Marauders. Sirius just refused to listen to Harry when he confronted him about the pranks and what he did. Sirius was never going to grow up and stop listening to Dumbledore.
It was time to change the game. If the light wasn't going to protect him, it was time to get someone who would. He had a few letters to write before he could go to bed. Neville would make sure he was up in time for class. He began to write the letters. He would need their responses and he hoped they would be positive if he was to move forward with his idea. After all, Granger always whined about his lack of plans so he was sure no one would suspect this one.
Three days later:
Hedwig waited until Harry was alone. She had dropped off two letters to two different people. She had the response back from one. She would leave it with her human before seeking out the other response. Her human arrived back in the dorm with the one who loved to work with plants. Yuck, who would want to do that but she wasn't a human and therefore, had no use for plants. Once her human was in his nest, she hopped out of the shadows and dropped off the letter. "Hoot."
"Hedwig, thank you." Her human gave her some treats before he looked around to make sure it was safe to read.
"Go ahead, Harry. I will warn you if Ron is coming." The plant boy moved on his nest to be able to see into the bigger room.
"Thanks, Neville."
Hedwig watched as he read the letter and saw a small smile appear. "Let me write a quick response and you don't need to wait for an answer, Hedwig. Could you check to see if the other letter has a response?"
"Hoot." She bobbed her head and held out her leg to show she would take the letter.
"Great, thank you, Hedwig." Harry didn't take long to write a response and she was off after getting another treat first.
A month later:
Harry was sitting at breakfast. His plans had been finalized for a few weeks but he wasn't sure when the news would leak as he left that part in the hands of someone else who was eager to assist. Harry saw the owls arrive with the mail as well as newspapers. He didn't have a subscription but he was aware he would hear about his plan going into effect. After several seconds, the normal level of noise in the Great Hall started to rise.
"Harry, here." Neville pushed the newspaper at him.
Harry glanced at the paper. He almost laughed as he saw the headline.
HARRY POTTER'S ADOPTION RAFFLE
by Rita Skeeter
Harry looked at Neville as Granger's voice overpowered everyone else in the Great Hall. "HARRY JAMES POTTER! You better explain this right now."
Harry rolled his eyes which caused Neville to smirk before he turned to face her. "Since I have no idea what you are referencing as I have only seen the headline, how about you wait to jump down my throat long enough for me to read the story?"
Granger's face turned red but Weasley reined her in before she exploded. It seems the boy had a use after all. Harry turned toward Neville. "Thank you." Harry took the newspaper
A new magical contest has been opened. The winning prize is the adoption of Harry James Potter. The contest rules are very simple. The winner will be announced on the 19th of December with Harry being able to be picked up for the Yule holiday. The cutoff date for submissions is the 15th of the month.
Requirement/s: Ten galleons entrance fee. You must provide the reason for the adoption request. The request must be written on truth parchment already available at Gringotts. Gringotts will accept the entrance fee and parchment.
Restriction/s and Rules: No one associated with Minister Fudge and Headmaster Albus Dumbledore will be permitted to enter or be related to a member of their families. No muggle will be permitted custody. No known criminals will be permitted to enter. There will be no marriage contract submitted, no personal letters to Harry Potter as it will void your entrance. Family members related to the Potters will be given preference. There must also be proof of the ability to take care of a child.
Harry handed the paper back to Neville. "Thank you, Neville."
"Welcome Harry."
"Well?" Granger demanded.
"Interesting." Harry shrugged.
"Harry! This is important." Granger was shaking the paper at Harry. "I can't believe that woman would dare to do this after-" She closed her mouth.
"After you kidnapped her and kept her in a jar?" Harry finished and he was aware everyone was listening as they had been since Granger yelled his name. "I am surprised you haven't been arrested as of yet but it does show how much the headmaster keeps his lions protected." Harry stood up. "See you in Potions, Neville." Harry headed out of the Great Hall ignoring the yelling of Granger and the two youngest Weasleys. He had a feeling the twins would seek him out.
Later that day:
Harry wished he had hidden. He received a summons to Dumbledore's office. He smirked as a new idea appeared in the form of Severus Snape who was coming directly at him. He would get detention he was sure since the man was heading for him but he figured it was time Snape learned some truths. "Potter, what do you think you are doing? You should be heading to class or are you so special you believe you can not attend your lessons?"
"Reading a note I was just given before I head up to see the headmaster, sir." Harry held out the note.
Harry:
You will come and see me directly. We have some issues to discuss
Headmaster Dumbledore
PS I wish I had some Ice Mice
Snape glanced at him. "Care to join me?" Harry could see Snape was wondering what Harry was doing but since the man believed Harry was an idiot, he nodded his agreement.
Dumbledore's office:
Dumbledore was rereading the article. He was aware the boy hadn't had any correspondence as he had made sure to place a ward on the Great Hall to copy any letters as any packages the boy received. The owls for students only deliver mail in the morning in the Great Hall. He did it for a reason. He had done it to several other students who he believed might be future Death Eaters.
He was going to have to see about this raffle business and make sure someone he wanted to get control over the brat so he could get the guardianship assigned back to him afterward. He wasn't letting his weapon change his plans. He was also going to have to make sure no one wrote about Hermione kidnapping someone. Honestly, what was the girl thinking?
Dumbledore turned on his grandfather mode as he heard Harry give the password. He was a bit surprised when Severus appeared behind the boy. He was going to have to control the conversation and make sure the boy didn't reveal who he was residing with. "My boy, take a seat we have several issues we need to discuss."
Harry sat down as Severus moved to his normal spot by the bookcase. Fawkes was to Harry's right, Severus' left. "I am not sure what you wish to discuss sir, I have no control over this raffle."
"I see." Well, that was interesting but not surprising. He never permitted anyone he didn't approve of to get close to the boy. It was also the reason he made sure to keep Rita Skeeter away from the boy as much as possible. "Why do you think this raffle has been started?"
Harry looked at Dumbledore as if he lost the plot to something. "I am guessing someone discovered how my relatives treated me. After all, Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon have never been subtle about their hatred of me, magic, you, the magical world, well, anything they do not deem natural. Who knows, maybe someone saw how my cousin beats me up? Heard how my uncle and aunt do. I am aware that you have people outside of my home listening and watching it. Have you spoken to any of them? How many times does it take for a child to scream in pain before they do something about it?"
Severus was staring at the boy before he pulled out his wand and started a health scan of the boy hoping to expose the lies as Dumbledore stared at him. "Harry, I am sure your relatives love and care for you. They have protected you for all these years for a reason."
"Yeah, because of your threats. Aunt Petunia made sure to inform me of them over the summer after Dudley and I were almost Dementor food. She showed me the letter telling her that if she didn't take me in, she and her family would be in danger. She had a long rant about how she was informed about her sister's death by discovering a child on her steps in the morning after being placed there during the night. She just loved how acceptable it was for us freaks to leave a walking child on a muggle doorstep while not having the courtesy of informing her of her sister's death. It was so long that my uncle arrived home and blamed me for causing my aunt's emotional outburst and we have a very one-side conversation. He used his fists to make an impression about not upsetting his wife."
Severus was reading the results of the scan as Harry had been speaking. He sent a copy to his office, one to Lucius, and one to Poppy before he slammed the results on Dumbledore's desk. "The boy isn't lying, Albus. I want to know the meaning of this. You were the one to inform everyone he was safe. He was being taught our ways and about magic."
"I was? I didn't even know I was a wizard until my eleventh birthday. I had about a month to read the books for classes and none of those books covered things like preparing potion ingredients, how to write with a quill, basic magical theory, or even the basic rules and regulations regarding using magic."
Severus growled. "You didn't supply him with the muggle-born list, Albus?" Severus glanced at Harry as everything clicked into place. "Who was to be his magical guardian?"
"What magical guardian?" Harry was a bit confused. Yes, he had learned there were books he should have been given as Colin Cleevey had mentioned them. Colin provided him with the list and Harry had finally been able to order his copies. "I haven't even been to Gringotts since my first year. Mrs. Weasleys gets the funds out of my vault and I always make sure to keep track since I have to make sure it lasts me until I can get a job."
"Potter, you have more than one vault. You are an heir and will be a lord one day. I believe you have more than one title if I remember correctly." Severus glared at Dumbledore, again. "I will take you to Gringotts this Saturday and you will discuss everything with your account manager."
"I am sure that won't be necessary. We have to deal with this raffle first. We must protect Harry."
Harry snorted. Severus agreed. "If this is your idea of protection, I can see why there is a raffle. If I have to enter my name to gain guardianship, I will. He will not be returning to Petunia."
Harry tuned out the rest of the conversation as Snape pointed to the scan results as Dumbledore tried to defend his actions. He was thinking about what he just learned. He had titles. He was a bit surprised but it did explain the strange looks he had gotten when people asked him questions about heirs, lords, and political issues. He had believed it was because of his status being the Boy-Who-Lived. "Potter, go to your dorm. I will take you Saturday to Gringotts."
Saturday:
Harry stared at the results in front of him. He had to take an Inheritance Test to show who he was as well as a Magical Test to see about binds and other forms of control since the goblins were insisting he do so. Severus Snape was already demanding a purge be done as well as Harry to be seen by their healers. Snape had already shown them the results of the scans he had run.

Harry snapped back to what was going on as Snape asked about his accounts. "No, no one has been able to access them for withdrawing of funds but several items were requested and the requests were fulfilled as the requests came from Heir Potter."
"I never requested anything." Harry was very confused.
"I have several requests for books including many family books as well as an Invisibility Cloak." Ironclaw presented the requests.
"It isn't my signature." Harry looked at the letters. The books went to Dumbledore and Granger. It explained why she would hide what she was reading at times because if they were family books, his name as well as the family crest would be on them.
"It is true, it isn't. I am very familiar with his writing. Get the books returned and fine whoever had them if there is any damage to them." Severus recognized several of the titles as books on Dumbledore's shelves. He must have used a glamour to cover the crest and family name on the books.
The healers entered and Harry left to get a purge. After everything was done, Severus was walking Harry back to Hogwarts. "Do not mention anything you discovered until you are protected. Dumbledore is still your magical guardian for now."
"I wasn't planning on it. If they ask, I will just mention getting a simple blood test for verifications purposes." Harry was wearing a glamour to keep the Harry Potter image but it was done with goblin magic as well as some tweaks with parselmagic.
19 December:
Granger was glaring at Harry as he refused to get rid of the raffle. It was the main topic in the newspaper. She was about to demand Harry do something when the Great Hall doors were opened admitting Madam Bones, three Aurors, and Rita Skeeter. Skeeter scanned the students. "It is her." She pointed to Granger. "Hermione Granger."
The Aurors moved forward and slapped the magical cuffs on Granger. "Hermione Jean Granger, you are charged with kidnapping and false imprisonment." Madam Bones sighed as Dumbledore started toward her. The man was a menace.
"Amelia, what is going on?" Dumbledore was very confused.
"We are arresting Ms. Granger for kidnapping and holding Rita Skeeter in a jar for several months."
"She deserved it. She needed to learn to keep her poison pen to herself."
"So you are admitting to the charges?" Madam Bones never expected this, after all, she was always presented as the brightest witch of her generation. If she was the brightest, she feared for the future of their world.
"She is an illegal Animagus. A bug!" Granger glared at Skeeter.
"Yes, I am aware. She has filed and paid the fine. However, it doesn't give you the right to break the law." Madam Bones nodded her head. Granger was removed screaming about how right she was. "I will be speaking to her parents. You might want to suggest some good legal help for them." The girl was going to need it as the memory of her admitting to her crime would be admitted into evidence.
"Amelia, surely-"
"No, Albus. You heard her as well as everyone else. She admitted to it."
Harry couldn't believe Granger admitted it. Well, it took the focus off of him until the raffle winner would be announced.
Four O'Clock:
Everyone was gathered in the Great Hall with the wireless on the head table. Dumbledore had attempted to stop the announcement or even had anyone listen to the raffle winner but Harry had already been summoned by the Ministry so he could learn the results Gringott would announce. Dumbledore tried to go with Harry but Harry didn't want him to come. He had tried to get the boy to listen but he refused. Dumbledore was going to have to do something about it when the boy returned.
Everyone had listened to the different speakers as well as their various views on what might happen, who might obtain custody of the boy, as well as a healer speaking about abuse in children who resided in the muggle world and the changes they were hoping would occur. The announcer turned up the excitement when the goblins were in the lobby of the Ministry.
It was quiet as the goblins moved closer to the area. You could almost hear the steps the goblins took as they approached the staging area. One of the goblins stepped onto the platform. Everyone heard the scroll being unrolled. "The raffle for the custody of Harry Potter has ended. The results have been reviewed this day. The winner is the one who had the closest family ties as well as the means to support a child. The truth parchment was valid and passed our certification test." There was a pause for several seconds. "The winner is Narcissa Malfoy nee Black."
Chaos broke out in the Great Hall as eyes turned to locate Draco Malfoy. Draco looked just as shocked as everyone else. He regained his mask. "Of course, we are the superior choice."
Meanwhile:
Harry was standing with Lucius as they announced the results. Harry looked at Lucius. Severus and Voldemort joined them as Narcissa followed the goblins to sign the paperwork. No one recognized Voldemort as he looked just slightly older than Severus with his glamour on. "I can't believe it worked."
"I did ask you about the requirements and laws." Harry watched the crowd as everyone was now disbanding and talking about the raffle.
"Dumbledore is going to be impossible to have at Hogwarts," Severus grumbled. "He isn't going to let Harry go that easily."
"No, but Tom has a plan that I think will work for us. After all, Umbridge is still at Hogwarts and I believe we can use her to discredit him more." Harry held up his hand. "After all, Black Quills are illegal."
"Harry," Severus growled. "You should have said something."
"Oh, she is going to find herself in a cell next to Granger," Harry smirked. "Perhaps Bellatrix would like a new cellmate?"
"You are going to give us grey hairs." Lucius had to admit it was a good plan and didn't make anyone think the dark faction had a thing to do with it.
Voldemort turned his green eyes toward Harry. He had obtained the green eyes because of Harry's blood he had used for the ritual. Granted it wasn't how he had planned for the ritual to go but after Pettigrew had killed Cedric and he had seen Harry's magic, he had to change his plans. The summer had been interesting especially when the boy had written to him for help after his relatives had almost killed him thanks to Umbridge. Lucius had been the one to discover that bit of information. They had plenty of time since they couldn't claim their mate until he came into his inheritance but it did give Narcissa time to help Harry learn about what he had missed from his neglected education.
"Shall we?" Narcissa smiled as she joined the group. "Everything is set. I already informed Dumbledore you would not be returning just so you can leave on the train in the morning."
"Good, I didn't want to listen to some people."
