Chapter 1
SEPTEMBER 1st 1978
Clouds of smoke and talkative teenagers, this is exactly where Lily Evans wanted to be. With her parents in tow she made her way to the 9 ¾ wall. She smiled at her parents as they looked worried as always but hopeful.
"I'll be home in no time only a couple months "
She says reassuringly, there was a small scuff from behind her mother. Her older sister Petunia, she had hair straighter than an arrow and blacker than the night. She was looking at the other children who were saying goodbye to their parents with disgust, Lily could only assume Petunia came because they're parents forced her.
"Do be safe dear, we want you home in one piece after all" her mother joked softly as she hid her face in the tissue, Lily could see a tear or two falling. She shook her head softly. It wasn't like she was going away to war, I'm only going to one of the safest places in the world Hogwarts Lily thought as she hugged her mother one last time along with her father. She knew better then to give her sister a hug, Petunia would probably push her away or bite her or something. Lily laughed at the thought nevertheless she restrained from getting close to her.
As Lily turned towards the wall once again, she took a deep breath, glanced back at her parents and gave them a small wave before running the cart head first into the wall. As she felt her body tingle slightly as the world around her changed, no longer was she standing besides her parents. She was standing by a bunch of teenagers and soon to be teenagers chatting lively and holding various items. Some were holding frogs and other owls, as she looked around she heard a loud outburst of laughter and taunting. And she turned towards the noise. She knew there is only one person who would try a stunt on the first day of school, the one and only James Potter. Rolling her eyes and pushing past the crowds of teenagers following the laughter she can only assume is Sirius Black's (Jame's best friend ).
Lily saw not only James but her old best friend Severus Snape. He was floating a few inches off the ground upside down moving in an up and down motion. He was staring daggers into James and Sirius while keeping a straight face trying to seem unfazed thought it wasn't working. Lily took a step in front of Snape causing James to lose concentration and drop snape on his head with a thud
"Evans you made me drop my toy"
James says in a kid-like tone pouting slightly, He tucked his wand away in his robes before running his fingers through his tangled mess of hair and Sirius rolled his eyes.
"I didn't need your help Mudblood " Snape said with venom dripping with every word, the word cut into her soul like a million daggers, a man she thought would be her friend till the end of time calling her such a word. She turned towards him glaring at him pointing her wand at him taking one small step towards him. As she heard shuffling of robes behind her, assuming it was James and Sirius.
"Get up grab your stuff and go" Lily says quickly and sternly, Snape glares at her and the boys with their wands drawn behind her and she points harder at him gripping her want tightly
"Are you that thick Severus? Get up and go before I look the other way as to what James does next" She says louder and more threatening, she didn't want to unleash James on him but if he didn't move quickly wouldn't be able to hold James off any longer. Lily knew she shouldn't still be protecting him, Snape has done nothing but give her hell for as long as they were sorted in different houses and his rivalry with James started.
She couldn't help but remember when they were younger, growing up down the street from each other. Having secret meetings in the flowers, Snape was the first to tell her she was a wizard and teaching her all he knew at the time. She smiled at the thought before she looked back down at shell of the boy that looked up at her with a devilish glare.
"Fine "
He says quietly before grabbing his things and shuffling away pushing past the crowd of teenagers who watched in awe. Lily shook her head before turning her attention on Sirius and James the two boys who were smirking at each other. The constant pain in her side, she tried to fight a smile happy to see them after a long summer.
"What were you thinking Potter? Oh wait never mind you probably weren't "
Lily says walking over to him, poking him in the chest with her wand, he smiled down at her, his Hazel eyes piercing into her green ones. So much unsaid between the two of them. Before she pushes her wand a little harder into his chest
"Ow Evans that's starting to hurt now"
The amusement still in his voice as he pushed her wand away gently. Lily let her arm fell but the stern in her face never wavered
"Using magic outside of school grounds, Potter are you an idiot that could get you expelled or worse! This is just like you never using your brain, only your actions what would've you done if he would've put a hex on you or worse com-"
Lily was cut off by James gets close, very close. Her breathing becoming shallow as he slowly tilts his head closer to her cheek his breath becoming hot as his lips touch her check gently. The warmth of his body became almost irresistible. Maybe it was because she spent her summer trapped in her room avoiding the hate from her sister. Or because she was just happy to be home but a few seconds more seconds she would've turned to jelly in his hand. But James pulled away not before whispering
"It's good to see you too Evans "
He winks at her before walking through the crowd with Sirius in tow. she takes a deep breath recollecting her thoughts before following the crowd to the train hoping for a good last year.
