Sonorus

Iris took Murphy to the Charms classroom, and since it was a Saturday, Professor Flitwick was simply organizing paperwork.

“Hello, Professor! Murphy and I come to you with a request for your charms expertise.” Iris greeted him. Flitwick was one of her favorite Professor's, and likewise she was one of his favorite students.

“A very urgent request, Professor.” Murphy pleaded.

“Urgent? Is a student trapped in a trunk and in need of the box blasting charm? Does a raging fire need to be put out by Aqua Eructo?” He asked.

“Not exactly...” Murphy rubbed his neck, feeling suddenly nervous.

“Then there must be a broken ancient artifact that needs a well cast mending charm.”

“That's not it either, Professor.” Iris shook her head at him.

“Oh? Then what is it you two need?”

“I need to learn how to shout like a champion!” Murphy yelled excitedly.

“Merlin's beard, you came to me to learn how to shout?” He asked, eyebrows knit together in confusion.

“What Murphy is trying to ask, is that we were hoping you could teach us the Amplifying charm.” Iris explained her her kindliest voice.

“Right, of course, the Amplifying charm! Brilliant, Iris!” Murphy exclaimed. Professor Flitwick looked between the two students, and smirked under his mustache. He was not sorted into Ravenclaw for nothing, and being around young people made him exceptionally acute to the ways of the heart.

“Why do you want to learn Sonorus? It can be quite the annoying pest of a charm if used in the wrong setting.” He questioned them.

“Murphy has decided to improve his already amazing Quidditch commentating and came to me for help.” Iris smiled. “I'm acting as a Coach of sorts.”

“And there's nothing more important for a commentator than the crowd hearing your every word!” Murphy explained to him.

“But as I recall, Mr. McNully is already quite skilled at projecting his voice. Aren't you concerned the charm will make him to loud?”

“I was afraid of that, but it will be worth it if it makes him a better commentator.” Iris assured him, lifting herself up onto the desks to talk to Flitwick at eye level since he was at his risen stand.

“It will only be worth it of he doesn't abuse it and drive everyone else mad!” He quirked an eyebrow at her.

“Don't worry Professor, I'll make sure to have a good handle on Sonorus before I use it.” Murphy assured him, giving the professor a good look with his puppy dog eyes.

“Very well, I'll teach you both the amplifying charm.” He agreed, “but if I catch either of you using Sonorus after hours, the next spell you learn will be silencio.” Iris chuckled and smiled brightly.

“I would never risk a silencio charm.” Murphy assured him.

“Then lets begin. This incantation, must come from deep down in the stomach, point the wand at just the right spot.” He explained, picking up his wand to show them.

“What happens if I sneeze?” Murphy asked, earning a look from both Professor and Iris.

“Perhaps I should learn the quietening charm just in case.” Iris agreed, nodding fervently, making Flitwick laugh loudly.

“The incantation itself is just the word, and then you will simply hold your wand and point it towards your throat. So-NOR-us.” Flitwick supplied simply, “so-NOR-us!”

“So-NOR-us.” Iris and Murphy practiced saying the incantation a few times.

“I was loud before, but this will make me unstoppable, this is the perfect charm for the commentators.” Murphy smiled towards Iris.

“There it is, the amplifying charm! This will allow you to project your voice across vast spaces.” Flitwick expressed.

“Thank you Professor, perhaps we can give it a try?” Iris questioned.

“Yes, I believe you're ready.”

“Brilliant, now for the fun part.” Murphy smiled devilishly.

“Sonorus.” Both said in unison.

“HELLO!” Murphy tried.

“DO I SOUND LOUDER?” Iris questioned.

“IT'S WORKING!” Murphy said excitedly.

“I think that will be enough you two.” Professor Flitwick said with a smile.

“We've done it Iris! Now my voice will carry across the Quidditch pitch like a Quaffle in the hands of the Wigtown Wanderers.”

“Brilliant, let's just hope it doesn't carry too far.” Iris murmured mostly to Flitwick.

“Well, as I said, do not let me catch you two using this charm out of turn.”

“Have no fear, Professor, the Amplifying charm is in safe hands. Or safe voices, rather. ” Murphy assured him, but Flitwick still had some doubt.

“If you say so Mr. McNully. Good luck with the rest of your training with Miss Rosewood.”

“Right! My training...” She found herself fumbling on what to do next.

“Now that we've covered volume, I think I know what we should cover next Murphy.”

“What will it be coach?”

“Speed!” She smiled bright.

“That's a good idea! No commentators arsenal is complete without being able to whip up a fast tongued zinger!”

“And I know the perfect person to help, Penny!” She waved for him to follow her, and Murphy couldn't help himself, acting like he was drunk off cheap love potion.
