Chapter 2

“Come on Lil, Effie said we can’t start breakfast until we’re all at the table.” Sirius was whining in the door frame, he had gone done for breakfast already before promptly returning to fetch her apparently.

“Let me finish brushing my hair.”

“Don’t be so complicated. We all look like a wreck.”

“Just because you all do, doesn’t mean I need too.” She was sliding it up into a high pony tail.

“You’re going to shower after breakfast you always do.”

“Maybe I want to look presentable for everyone. I always do at school.”

“Some of us are literally starving.”

“You aren’t starving Sirius.”

“Lily, where are you? Some of us are wasting away.” Peter joined him in the door frame.

“I told her Wormtail! She’s being a prat about it.”

“Lily, come on.”

“See! Peter agrees with me!”

“I’m going to go even slower if you two don’t stop.” She had already began going slightly slower to annoy the boys.

“Lily, I am absolutely begging you to hurry up.” Peter looked at her, she sighed in discontent.

“Effie’s made all sorts of things you like! Come on.” Sirius had a very anxious look on his face.

“Hogwarts has sent letters, they’re waiting at the table.” Peter said sudden, that made Lily look up in curiosity.

“Peter, if you’re lying I swear to Merlin.” She stood up to look at him, she was ready for breakfast either way, but they shouldn’t joke about things.

“I’m not honest.”

“He isn’t, I didn’t think that’s the thing that would make you move.”

“Are they for all of us?” She questioned as they walked down the hall before walking down the steps.

“Yeah, Dumbledore must’ve known.”

“Oh Lily dear, I made these boys wait for you to join them.” Euphemia had a welcoming smile on her face.

“Good morning Mrs. Potter.” She smiled before looking at the table. Just as everyone said there was food on the table waiting for her.

“It’s Effie dear.” She smiled at the children gathered at the table.

“Of course.” Lily smiled shyly before turning to see Sirius already eating bacon like no tomorrow.

“We got our lists for school.” Remus stated out loud, sipping his cuppa.

“Excellent, can someone hand me mine?” Remus did and she opened it, drinking her own tea.

“Can we open these after breakfast?” Peter whined.

“Remus got to open his!”

“School doesn’t enthrall us the way it does you.” Sirius muttered. Lily opened the sealed letter anyway.

“Remus what classes do we have together?”

“Oi! What about us?”

“I’m looking out for my academic safety James. You don’t necessarily show that off.” Lily laughed a bit as Remus handed her his letter as well.

“I get good marks.”

“Correction, you all get acceptable marks.” Remus commented, a smirk evident.

“We should go to the alley today.” Lily decided, setting down the letters looking around the table.

“No.” Sirius decided for them.

“You can’t just say bloody no. No explanation? Oh because you know I am most certainly right.”

“No, because it’s still bloody summer Lily.”

“It’s never to early to get our school supplies.”

“Some of us don’t want to go.”

“Stop being a prat.”

“You’re one to talk.”

“I agree with Sirius, too damn early.” James looked at the long hair boy nodding in agreement.

“See! At least James has some sense.”

“Well, I agree with Lily.”

“Remus, no. You can’t agree with the enemy!” Sirius squawked.

“I side with Sirius and James, you can’t already be thinking about school.” Peter looked like he could melt into a puddle.

“Thank you Peter. Some sense again.” Sirius had an unbeatable expression.

“Just because you don’t want to think about school does not mean we can just bloody ignore it.”

“Lily is right, we can’t just ignore everything we need to go to the alley.”

“And we can when it’s closer to the school year.”

“Sirius, she’s right things sell out.”

“And my mother goes to tea down there sometimes, we aren’t going.”

“You’re more likely going to miss her now than in a few weeks.”

“That’s not a fair argument.” Lily added to Remus’ comment.

“It’s bloody summer. I’d rather go camping again then argue this.” Peter pointed his fork at Lily and Remus.

“The bar is on the ground then practically!” Lily muttered in a complete whir of somewhat anger maybe? She wasn’t sure, but she sure as hell knew she wanted to get her shopping done.

“If Sirius doesn’t want to go, we shouldn’t go.”

“Ha, listen to your boyfriend Lily.”

“You’re the worst when you start not to get your way.” Lily argued.

“You already want to be thinking about bloody school! I don’t want to think about that even when we’re on the train back!” Sirius had all but forgotten his food as they continued to eye one an other.

“It’ll take two bloody hours.” Remus popped in.

“This is a ridiculous argument even to be having.” James added then.

“This isn’t ridiculous.”

“He acts like everything is bloody joke most of the time, my apologies for wanting to get school shopping out of the way before we have other things to worry about.”

“Some of us want to enjoy our summers!”

“Enough!” Every child looked up to the voice that had entered where they were eating, Mrs. Potter would always be a force to be reckoned with, and considering she looked beyond annoyed every child looked down.

“Sorry mum.” James muttered.

“I never thought you would argue about school in such a way.” She commented, wand up to move a chair to the table to join the children.

“It’s my fault.” Lily immediately took blame.

“It’s not just your fault dearie, it’s on everyone.” She looked at each of them.

“It is a silly argument to have.” Lily said to her, looking down yet.

“I’ve made the choice for all of you, a compromise if you will. Mounty and I were going to wait until after breakfast to announce it, but the sooner the better because I do not want to have to get blood out of my hardwood floors.” She smiled at the children, showing she wasn’t angry.

“Mum, we bleed on the floor no matter what.” James had a shy smile on his face, recalling countless times where someone got blood on the floor after playing too rough.

“We have the house by the beach, we’re going for a few days.” She smiled pleasantly, James gawked at her.

“Are we really mum? Oh guys you’re going to love it there. France is wonderful.”

“We actually switched houses with the Smiths, they have four children so we figured they’d have more beds, we were right.”

“I’m sorry Mrs. Potter, I don’t think I can take off to the beach for a few days.” Lily said, Remus nodded along.

“It’s Effie dear, and I already spoke to everyone’s parents.”

“How long have you had this planned?” Remus asked her, seeming uneasy.

“Since Sirius got here a few weeks ago, figured it’d be a great kick off for your sixth year.” Everyone had smiles on their faces instead of murderous glares.

“Mum, you’re brilliant.”

“I’m aware of it.” She smiled at everyone.

“When do we leave?” Sirius seemed the most unsure.

“After breakfast. So hurry up so you all can pack.”
