A Twisted Morning At The Wand Shop

Azula 's P.O.V

I've only ever heard stories of Hogwarts ever existing from family, I never imagined that I would really end up experiencing it all for myself. It seems so surreal but I knew it was coming. Today is the day I go and collect all of the necessary items I require for my first year at Hogwarts.

We had finally arrived at Diagon Alley when my father spoke up and told me that him and Mother had decided the Malfoy family should meet with us before I go off to school.

Father was very fond of the Malfoys for some odd reason, I'd heard they even had a son my age! I was most excited to meet him, I might even make a friend before school. we stopped outside Olivanders, where it was arranged we would all meet.

In the meantime, during our wait for the Malfoy family, I observed as all the families wandered around to collect their very own supplies.

I found one man in particular very interesting, he was much taller than every body else by a very clear two or so feet, his beard and hair both incredibly long and frizzy. he had a very comforting and friendly look about him, further evident as he was walking around with a boy who seemed to be about my age, making casual conversation.

The boy himself had dark black hair that covered his forehead, he wasn't tidied up the best and he was quite thin for someone our age, as if underfed. my first instinct was to ask Mother if I could go and speak to the boy, she of course had instantly agreed, father however wasn't as welcoming to the idea.

Right as the boy had stopped to speak to the man I rushed myself to greet the two, jumping up right in between the two of them to intersect their conversation.

"Good morning! pleasure to meet ya! The names Azula Quinn, may I ask yours?"

The pair seemed quite shocked by my sudden appearance between them.

"Well Morin' there Azula, the names Hagrid, and this right here is Harry"

Hagrid, I know that name from somewhere... that's right!

"Hagrid?! My Mother has spoken such great things of you! she told me you were her favourite adult at Hogwarts!"

This was truly a thrilling day, from getting out and about and running into the infamous Hagrid himself!

Hagrid simply laughed at the memory, patting my back and walking off to help Harry collect his supplies.

"Give her my greetings Quinn, see you at Hogwarts"

Now it had been only me and Harry left. The name seems oddly familiar for some reason, yet I couldn't quite pinpoint it.

"Harry, huh? What's the last name?"

The boy started answering hesitantly to me, perhaps he was still in shock from my jump.

"Well, it certainly is a pleasure to meet you Azu-"

Had it only not been for my Fathers forsaken interruption I would have caught the boys name.

"Azula come back, you have someone to meet."

For some reason he had been glaring at the boy beside me as he called for me.

"Sorry Harry, Father's calling, hopefully I'll see you soon!"

He answers his own goodbye and walks to what I'm assuming was his next stop.

I rush back to my parents, just to be greeted by a lovely, tall, blonde lady, who's eyes were a shade of blue so electric i could barely keep my eyes away from hers. Beside her, what I would guess to be her husband and son both very strongly resembled one another.

The two shared sharp, cold grey eyes which seemed to emit an unwelcoming look from the pair, the father more so than the son. Accompanying their unpleasant eyes was platinum hair and sharp facial features.

Nothing about this family seemed to stray from the model family who basked in their riches. The man seemed rather cold, whilst the woman gave off a much warmer aura. Something I found a little odd about the atmosphere is that the boy seemed a slight bit tense next to his father.

It was foolish of anyone to disregard how sophisticated the family in front of me was dressed.

"There you are Azula, what took so long?"

Mother asked whilst holding onto my shoulder.

"Well I met the man called Hagrid you told me about, he said to give you his greetings! and then I spoke to a boy, I didn't get his name unfortunately."

She smiled and nodded approvingly, to which the cold man spoke up.

"I hope you aren't allowing your daughter to make potential mudblood friends. that would be an awful shame wouldn't it?"

I couldn't believe what filthy language i had come across, the audacity to belittle people who aren't born into wealthy wizarding families was atrocious.

"I beg you're pardon Sir? That-"

Father speaks up and interrupts me before I so much as get the chance to tell this man my mind

"of course not, I'm keeping a close eye on her Lucius."

Poor boy, having to live with a man like that. I suppose that's what him and father have in common. Unfortunately that means I best not argue, onto the next question.

"And may I ask who you are?"

The man, whom I now know to be Lucius now returns his attention to me. Before he has the chance to introduce himself the young boy introduces himself.

"I'm Malfoy. Draco Malfoy. Pleasure to meet your acquaintance"

he speaks confidently, almost cocky as he sticks out his hand to shake mine.

"Azula Quinn"

I shake the hand before me, his grip is firm, yet almost afraid of being too firm in case he hurts me, treating me like some sort of porcelain cup. Quite ironic really, considering the confidence seeping out of him.

"I'm Lucius Malfoy and this is my wife, Narcissa Malfoy. You must be Azura Quinn?"

He shakes my hand whilst looking down on me, I could tell by the way he carried himself he was trying to figure me out, something I truly did not appreciate from anyone, especially men who carried themselves similarly to this one.

I let go of his hand smiling up at Narcissa warmly in acknowledgment, to which she came forward and hugged me. Her hug was welcoming, safe even, I could tell she must be a great mother. I like her.

"Well, we best leave you two to go and collect your supplies and get to know each other whilst you're at it, in the meantime, us adults need to go and catch up for a while. Meet us back here in an hour"

My Mother spoke softly to us, Lucius following it up strictly whilst looking at his son.

"And Draco. No speaking to mudbloods"

He spat out to his son quietly at the side so we wouldn't hear it.

"Yes father."

Unfortunately, it was clear that everyone heard.

The adults made their way progressively further from our standing point until it was just Draco and I left.

Within the few moment that the adults left, his character changed entirely, he was now much more bright and bubbly than he was a second ago, somewhat a flirty persona showing through.

"So where are we off to first Mr Malfoy?"

I question him with a playful exaggeration on his name, to which he retaliates with a snicker.

"Well, miss Quinn, I don't know about you but I'M going to get my wand first. Care to tag along? Your loss if you pass up this opportunity."

His voice was now much more joyful than when he'd first spoken, and his body language seemed a lot more relaxed, including him throwing his arm around my shoulder.

"why of course Mr Malfoy, wouldn't want you getting into any trouble on your own now, would I? Goodness no, Father would be ashamed if i allowed that to happen."

Reaching for his wrist to pull him along, I made my way hopping down the street to the one and only, infamous Olivanders. We spoke fondly of each of our parents wands, the intricate designs that they had been carved into, when we noticed the store coming up ahead.

We had been continuing inside and admiring the enormous stacks of wands everywhere we turned, when out of nowhere a familiar face popped up in front of a desk.

The only reason I say familiar is that my Mother was quite reckless during my childhood and had needed her wand replaced once or twice, so the elder man who went by Ollivander, became well acquainted with us pretty quickly.

The man was on the older side of the scale and had white hair, on the verge of grey, a very friendly man overall I'd say.

"Ah yes, Miss Quinn, welcome! I suppose you're here to collect your very first wands, yes? Or perhaps your Mother needs a new one?"

He chirped out hastily, lunging towards the counter from behind the stacks of wands in his way. Much to both mine and Malfoy's shock, not a single precious wand had fallen or even been slightly disrupted from their resting positions as he awaited my response.

"Ah- well yes, mother certainly isn't going too easy on her wand."

My mother was a lovely woman, an amazing parent too. Her legacy however, as far as i was concerned, was being the chaotic witch she always had told me was her dream.

She was a woman of simple tastes, incredibly easy to please as she valued the more important and smaller things she had in her life. To make up for her lack of material greediness, everything she did was fuelled purely by adrenaline and how she felt in the moment.

My mother was the definition of impulsivity at its finest, yet i wouldn't change it for the world.

"Although you would be correct in guessing we have come to buy some wands sir!"

The man chuckled heartily before turning to the blonde beside me, who now looked far more bored than i ever would have imagined one could get in such a short span of time.

"I see you have brought along the infamous Malfoy with you, what a pleasure it is to see you not looking like a grouch for once"

Draco had simply scoffed in response to the attempt at lighting up the shops atmosphere, much to the elders dismay. It was clear he hadn't appreciated this comment and was sure to make this clear.

"I have not the slightest idea what you mean."

Not another word I had heard from the boy for the most of our visit at the shop, despite my various attempts at engaging in light-hearted conversation with him.

Whilst he was having his slump, I had started to try find a wand. Cue my first few tries.

The very first wand I had picked out had a catastrophic ending, turning the counter right in front of Mr Ollivander himself into a far smaller version of its current size.

"Well goodness, thankfully a far better outcome than your mothers first wand."

He had laughed off nervously before undoing the damage from my pathetic scene, meanwhile, Draco tried to hush his chuckling. A lousy job of hushing considering i had heard it loud and clear.

"Might want to consider that I have every opportunity to aim at you the next attempt."

The simple, nonchalant statement I had made seemed to have some effect on the weasel behind me, a couch followed by silence ensued soon after. Draco straightened out his clothes before I had been carefully and curiously handed the second wand.

I took the wand, gave it a spin for comfort before testing it, immediately a blast of water was aimed at the rest of the wands behind the counter. Much to Ollivanders dismay, he took the wand once more and proceeded to continue searching.

This had gone on for a couple minutes, attempt after attempt failing ever so badly. Finally, after the fifth attempt had failed, the elder man came up to me one final time, a look of disbelief plastered on his expression. Much to my concern he seemed overall, not very certain, as though this wand was an absolute wild card.

"Sir, you don't look too sure of this one."

He dismissed my concern, ushering me to get the attempt over with and take the wand. As though upon even connecting to me, the wand had let off a faint glow, brightening my face the slightest bit.

Yet again, I flipped the wand with excitement before aiming it directly at Draco, to both the males absolute horror. I alas, was not entirely sure what they were expecting to happen.

To everyone's absolute shock, Draco's hair had sprouted Azalea flowers, the most wonderful and vibrant shade of magenta. A beautiful plant, with secrets hidden behind their tint. From somewhere between these flowers, a Black Kingsnake had started making its way out.

"Uhm, Draco? Feeling any different?"

I couldn't help but snicker at the sight, such a pretty sight, a snake so dark and regal, threatening looking, yet very clearly just a baby. The contrast of Pink, White and Black was a sight to behold, it was an awful shame I had not thought to capture the moment.

When Draco had seen the fearful look of the man Infront of him, he demanded to know what was wrong, only to be met by a shaky mirror held up to his face from a far distance.

"Azula get this- this thing off of me this instant!"

His demand of panic would have been met by the snake getting injured had I not intervened between the chaos. I stepped towards the boy, reaching my hand out towards his head just to have it slapped away

"Hey! let me help you, I'm not going to do anything to you. You do want this adorable thing off of you, Do you not?"

That seemed to instantly shut him up, eyes shutting firmly.
