Chapter 56
Prompt: He visits her in the hospital wing while she’s recovering from Dolohov’s curse because he feels responsible for not warning or stopping her from going to the Ministry
The first thing he noticed was how small she looked. Hermione was always petite but laying in the hospital bed that dwarfed her in size, she looked even smaller, vulnerable. He was able to overhear Pomfrey tell Dumbledore that she would make a full recovery, but staring at her frail frame, he couldn't believe it.
Draco dropped his head into his hands. How did things get so fucked up?
"Your father sends his love," Hermione's quiet voice interrupted his thoughts.
Draco let from his seat and perched on the edge of her bed, his hands grasping hers.
"I am so sorry, Granger, I had no idea you were ever planning on going there. I should have known, I should have told you, I almost lost y-"
The rest of his words were cut off by his retching sobs.
"I didn't tell you Draco, because I knew there was a good chance your father would be there and I didn't want to put you in that position."
Draco's puffy eyes snapped up to hers at her confession. Unable to find the words, his lips crashed into hers, seeking absolution,
"You stubborn, stubborn, witch," he muttered between kisses, "the next time the woman I loves plans on walking into a death eater trap, I better be the first person she tells so I can be right there by her side."
