Chapter 21
Prompt: Love
It wasn't the cold, damp air that woke him as it often did, it was the sound of raised voices approaching his cell.
"Miss, we already told you, the prisoner is not permitted any visitors outside of family and that is unchangeable, even for war heroes."
A sharp laugh interrupted the silence and for a moment, Draco felt pity for the guards who underestimated the witch before them.
"Well how fortunate that my visit isn't breaking any rules, now open my husband's door," Hermione commanded, her tone leaving no room for arguments.
Draco blinked as the light poured into his cell. For a moment, Hermione stood at the frame, looking even more beautiful than the last time he saw her at his sentencing.
Before he had time to think, Hermione had thrown herself into his arms, her face burrowing into his neck. Draco responded in kind, tightening his grip until he feared he'd leave bruises if he continued.
"What are you doing here?" he murmured, "we agreed you wouldn't come unless..."
Hermione pulled back to face him, her eyes shining bright and a smile illuminating her face.
"We did it, Draco. Theo just finished appealing your case and between the unbreakable vow you made with Harry and the memories from our wedding, the Wizengamot agreed to revoke your sentence! They're even offering compensation for not allowing a trial to begin with and-"
Draco interrupted her with a searing kiss.
"You.Are.The.Most.Brilliant.Witch.I.Love.You," he mumbled, kissing her between each spoken word with the ferocity of a man starved.
Hermione returned his affection in kind. Pulling back with a smile, she whispered, "I love you, Draco, let's go home."
