Chapter 12

Prompt: Take Me With You

Her eyes bore into him as she silently pleaded with him. She made no effort to stop the tears that streamed down her dirt stained face.

“Please, just take me with you,” she begged, her hands tightening around the collar of his robes, pulling him closer to her.

Slamming his occlumency walls in place, Draco stared cooly back at Hermione, his emotions securely locked away.

“Bring you? On a known suicide mission? Have you lost your mind, somewhere in that mess of hair, Granger? When I am done, this war will be over and you can have the very long life that we both know you deserve.”

Draco pulled away and strode to the door without a second glance knowing that one more look into her amber eyes would have him agreeing to whatever she said.

Before he made it out of the room, he felt the weight of her small frame slam into his back, enveloping him into a crushing embrace. He allowed himself a few moments to enjoy the moment.

Hermione broke the silence and whispered, “I’m so sorry, Draco, I hope someday you will forgive me.”

Confused, Draco turned to meet her gaze, but before he could, he felt the familiar pull of the portkey careening him through space and away from his fate.

Prompt: Never Yours

Hermione joined him moments after he landed at the safe house. Furious, Draco had attempted to apparate back to headquarters but found himself unable to do so, more of Hermione’s brilliance at work.

“What were you thinking?! The war could’ve been over! You’d finally get to have some semblance of a life again! Now, he’s going to know something is wrong, we lost our chance!” Draco was seething, doing everything he could to resist shaking the stubborn witch before him.

Hermione squared her shoulders and glared at him. “I had to do it! I had to keep you safe!” Her eyes blazed with conviction with not a hint of remorse over what she had done.

“The choice was never yours to make!” Draco roared, his voice reverberating through the cabin.

With a sigh, he sagged his shoulders, years of stress and spying weighing him down.

“We lost our chance, Granger. What kind of life will you have now?” As Hermione met Draco’s gaze, her heart shattered.

Fighting back tears, she placed her palm on his cheek causing Draco’s eyes to flutter closed.

Placing her forehead against his chest, Hermione spoke, “For once, I didn’t want to sacrifice and do what was right for everyone else.”

She paused and looked up at Draco. Gone was the sadness in her eyes, in its place was a fierceness Draco had rarely seen before.

“There is no living without you, Draco and if that means the world burns, then so be it.”
