Two Ulfric's?
Okay this came about because I was coming up with a weird playthrough for skyrim, which I do a lot....So many characters and stories for them dudes.
Little bit of spoilers for elder scrolls stuff.
ANYWAY, this idea was inspired by actual Elder scrolls lore where a guy disguised himself with magic and pretended to be emperor for many years before being discovered.
In this story Ulfric was captured during the war, like in Canon, however he remained for many years. The thalmor decided to use his position and sent someone else disguised as him to start causing problems within the empire. This person also used magic to imitate the thu'um when battling the high king.
The real Ulfric escaped but is half starved and isn't recognized by anyone until much later. He takes the place of the dragonborn or is found by them, up to you.
This Ulfric was a student of the Greybeards, this Ulfric studied history, this Ulfric knows actual Nord traditions from long before. He does not worship the empire's version of the Aedra. He is also open to mages because of how often they're useful/mentioned/important within actual Nord history.
This Ulfric is pissed.
He wants vengeance, he wants his home back from that fake, he wants his people to stop being stupid and realize what the thalmor are tricking them to do.
This story is the journey of Ulfric proving he is the true Ulfric, revealing the Thalmor's trickery, and working to restore his reputation and prepare for the next war against the thalmor....all while dealing with the return of the dragons.
Should Ulfric be assisting the dragonborn during his journey to revealing the truth then he will help them in both battle and as someone with knowledge on nord history and experience with the Thu'um.
He tells ensures the dragonborn knows that the blades should be following their orders not the other way around. Tells them that the blades have completely forgotten their purpose.
The greybeards are happy to know that Ulfric did not truly cause so much chaos and use the skills they taught him in such a terrible way.
There will be many meetings with people Ulfric knows that will be emotional and almost heartbreaking. This dude has basically had his whole life flipped upside down and burned to the ground for good measure.
Due to his experiences within thalmor captivity he will be extremely weary of high elves. He still tries to be polite but he might have some anxiety/ptsd episodes early on.
It will take time for people to get used to the real him and he will need time to get used to being around people again.
Once news of the imposter, when they're revealed in a VERY public way, it sparks outrage across the continent. Many people begin to test their own people for imposters in disguise. It's up to you if there are any more.
Ulfric is a flawed character, as almost every single other character is as well. Show the character flaws, show the growth the characters go through during the story.
Have fun writing!!
