Aurora's carriage

As the sun rose, the rays peeked through the glass on the ceiling. Lighting up the room below the glass reflection twinkle as shiny diamonds created a peaceful aesthetic down to the young girl laying on the bed. Aurora hugs the pillow tightly to her face, trying to block away from the light and wanting to sleep more. Pulls the blankets to be over her head and tries to recount the sheep in her head. Right as the bliss of sleep was so close to taking her a knocking sounded on the door. It was then softly followed by Olivia's voice calling out to her.

“Aurore, ma chérie, es-tu réveillée?“  (Aurora. Sweetie are you awake.")  The door creaks open as she makes her way inside the door. Huddled underneath the soft blankets, Aurora hugged tighter not wanting to get out of it. A soft giggle escaped from Olivia as she slowly peeled off the blanket.

"« Allons, allons mon petit cygne. Nous avons beaucoup de choses à faire, mon amour."  ("Now, now my little cygnet. We have a lot of things to do my love.")

Aurora peeks one eye open to try and adjust to the light and pouts. 'Dois-je le faire ?'  ('Do I have to?')

A gleam of mischief was in Olivia's eyes as she responded, "Oui, tu dois le faire, si tu veux aller à l'école."  ("Yes you must, that is if you wish to go to school.")

Small eyes grew wide as the young child hurried off the bed and stood in front of her waiting for her next instruction. Olivia laughs, finding the child, excited and amused wondering to herself, 'I wonder how long her enthusiasm for school is going to last'.

"La première chose à faire est de s'assurer que vous êtes tous nettoyés."  ("Now the first thing we are going to do is make sure you are all cleanup.") She says guiding young Aurora to the bathroom door.

She turns the showerhead on to the right temperature and turns to face her kneeling as she did the night before. "Aurora, il faut que tu me montres que tu peux te doucher toute seule. Tu te souviens des étapes ?"  ("Aurora, I need you to show me that you can shower by yourself. Do you remember the steps?")

A small nod she receives as response. "D'accord, alors montez,"  ("Okay then hop in") Aurora repeats the step, remembering to remove the clothes and the hand movements to clean her hair. Once Olivia felt satisfied that she could do it on her own she signaled the elves in her carriage to bring her the present that she had brought with her. Once she heard the water stop running she walked back inside, seeing Aurora wrapped in a rose towel. She smiles proudly at her and carries her back to the bedroom where the elf is waiting patiently with the navy blue box and golden ribbon wrapped around it.

Aurora's eyes the box curious about what lies within as Olivia nods at the elf who apparates out of the room.

Aurora wants to approach and touch the box that is now sitting on her bed innocently but she is nervous that she will get punished for doing so. Eyeing Olivia, who gave her a reassuring and soft smile that it was okay for her to open it. Crawling a bit on the bed, the large rose towel drags behind her small figure. Once approaching the box, she pulls on the end of the ribbon watching amazed as it untangles itself landing gently on the covers below. Pale fingers tug the top off revealing a beautiful sunny lace dress with a belt design in daisies with its pair of shoes and bow.

'Belle'  ('Beautiful'), is the first thing Aurora thought as she touched the soft texture. Golden eyes look in hopes that it confirms the thoughts she has in her mind. "« "Oui, cygne. Ils sont à toi."  ("Yes, cygnet. They are yours to keep.") Happy tears streamed down her cheeks as she got off the bed and ran to hug Olivia. But as if something in her awakens she pulls away, looking away shy and worried. Olivia's heart broke seeing her reaction and kneels to her brushing away the wet hair sticking to her face.

"Aurore, tu peux me serrer dans tes bras ou me tenir la main si tu le souhaites. Je ne serai pas fâchée contre toi, ma petite."  ("Aurora, it's okay to hug me or hold m hand if you wish to. I will not be angry with you, little one.")

'Êtes-vous sûr?'  ('Are you sure?') she thinks worried.

"Oui. En plus, à partir d'aujourd'hui, je suis ton tuteur."  ("Yes. Plus starting today I am your guardian.")

'Gardien?'  ('Guardian?') she questions, tilting her head on what that word meant.

"Je suis ta marraine, ce qui signifie que je suis ta tutrice si quelque chose devait arriver à tes parents."  ("I am your godmother, which means that I am your guardian if anything were to happen to your parents.")

'Si quelque chose arrive à mes parents ? Papa, il lui est arrivé quelque chose?'  ('If anything happens to my parents? Dad, did something happen to him?')A small part of me felt sick and wanted to go searching for him to see him for myself. 'Mais s'il ne voulait pas me voir...'  ('But what if he wouldn't want to see me...')

A soft hand touches my cheek, pulling away from my conflicting thoughts. Thumbs wipe away the tears I didn't know fell off. "Ton père est malade et il ne pourra pas s'occuper de toi. Il m'a donc confié ta tutelle."  ("Your father is sick so he won't be able to look after you. So he passed guardianship of you to me.")

Olivia tells her sadly as she tries to console Aurora, who looks as if she is struggling to understand the emotions she is having. Carried her again and placed her in the bed. They repeated the steps of getting dressed, but Aurora remained still and lost in thought. Olivia began to get worried not knowing what is the best method of approaching the situation without making it worse. Placing the yellow bow right where the two large braids meet at the back of Aurora's head she taps her small shoulder to get her attention.

"C'est l'heure."  ("It's time.")

She pulls away from her and approaches the door, pulling it open. Aurora gets off her seat and walks sullenly towards her and out the hallway. They make their way out of the entrance of the mansion where Aurora's gloomy mood vanishes and replaces itself in awe by the winged horses and the carriage.

"Elles sont belles, n'est-ce pas ?"  ("They are beautiful, aren't they?") Aurora excitedly nods her small head, making Olivia smile sweetly at her. She approaches the carriage door that magically opens by itself peeking her head out to her.

"Tu viens, cygnet ?"  ("Are you coming, cygnet?")

Aurora looks away from the horses and approaches the steps to help her get in. Feeling like she is being watched, she stops and looks behind her glancing to see who can it possibly be. Till her eyes fell upon her father standing by the large window that must be his master bedroom. Blue eyes look down at her sadly and smile gently at her, giving her a small wave before letting the dark curtains block the view from inside. Aurora's heart skips a beat as the feeling of wanting to see her father grows stronger but her godmother's hand reaches out to her guiding Aurora inside the carriage. The door closes behind her, Olivia snaps once and the horses take off running.

Aurora clenches onto the side of the carriage looking out at the small opening window in the door. Her small head peeks outstaring in awe at how small the mansion was becoming and the large endless field of the ocean. She laughs in joy at how huge the world looks in comparison to being isolated in the rooms she was only allowed to enter.

"La vue vous plaît-elle ?"  ("Do you like the view?")

Aurora nods happily.

"Cela me rend heureux. Ce sera votre nouveau moyen de transport."  ("That makes me happy. This will be your new method of transportation.")

''Transport ?'  ('Transportation?')

"Oui. Cette voiture vous emmènera où vous voulez. Elle est à vous."  ("Yes. This carriage will take you anywhere you wish to go. It's yours.")

'Ma voiture.'  ('My carriage.')

"Ce n'est qu'un des nombreux cadeaux que je veux vous offrir. Si tu es d'accord ?"  ("Just one of many gifts I want to spoil you with. If that is okay with you?")

Aurora blushes and nods shyly. The ocean's breeze can all be heard as they both enjoy the silence and peaceful moment. Aurora's small fingers trace the design on the cushion she is sitting on tills she comes across a leather book. Opening her eyes she sees a brown leather book sitting right next to her and an ink feather right next to it. She looks toward Olivia wondering what purpose the book has.

"Ahh j'ai oublié que j'avais laissé le livre là-bas,"  ("Ahh I forgot I left the book there") she looks at the book embarrassed that she forgot to take it with her, "Je sais que vous avez du mal à parler et j'espère que vous savez écrire et épeler?"  ("I know you struggle with speaking and I am hoping you know how to write and spell?") She gets a nod as a response.

"Eh bien, ceci sera votre journal et votre stylo encreur. Tu peux y écrire toutes tes pensées, tes observations, ou tout ce que tu as envie d'écrire. C'est votre compagnon le plus fidèle et il gardera tous vos secrets."   ("Well, this will be your diary and yourself inking pen. You can write all your thoughts, observations, or anything you feel you write. It's your most trusted companion and will keep all your secrets.")

Aurora grabs the book, the cover is filled with flowering designs with a swan in the middle swimming in the lake. She opens the book only to see empty pages that were waiting to be written on. She smiles happily as she grabs tightly onto the pen. Tears smear the front few pages as she shakily writes the words she wishes she could say. Once it was written she turned the book around so that her godmother may read it. Olivia leans forward to get a better read on it. There on the first page is a perfect elegant cursive writing that says,

"Merci !  ("Thank you!")

She smiles at her lovingly and manages to catch Aurora who runs to her and gives her the biggest hug she can give her. As she places small kisses on her head and whispers, "De rien."  ("Your welcome.")
