Last Day On Earth (Jily)

James and Lily were laying down on the grass between Hogwarts and the Black Lake. Their cloaks were spread out to minimize their clothes rubbing against the ground. The sky overhead looked like smog. The lake was an oily black color and the school loomed eerily in the distance.

"Lily, mind if I pop a question?" the boy with ridiculous hair and haphazard glasses asked her. "Sure. Somehow instead of eating lunch in the Great Hall I'm out here wasting time. At this point I really don't care. So please be my guest." she rolled her eyes. "I don't wanna be your guest. Just your husband." he muttered. "What was that?" she craned her neck. "I-I said I'm not wasting your time. This is a very important question." he quickly replied. "Oh." he took a slow breathe. "What would you do if Headmaster Dumbledore called you-" "That would never happen by the way." she cut in. He sighed trying to hide his irritation. "If he did call and said that tomorrow was your last day on Earth how would you spend it? More importantly how would you prepare yourself to die." a chill climbed her spine. She glared at him. "What the bloody hell? What kind of dark, unrealistic, no good question is that!?" she practically yelled. "Why are you yelling? No one in Hogsmeade needs to know that." he answered her just as icily.

She puffed out a cheek and began to think about what the boy actually said. Yeah it might never happen but just incase it did...

"Well if that happened I would talk to my friends. Spend as much time with them as I can. Get everything off my chest. Next I'd send a message to my parents. Tell them that I love them. That I knew they were proud of me and how I wished I had more time to make them even prouder." she paused as emotion choked her. After she composed herself, she continued. "I then would try to get whatever outstanding work I have done. Don't want any of the teachers giving me a bad rap at my funeral." she then glanced at James. "I guess if I was dying tomorrow I should cherish this moment. You might be the last person I talk to before I bit the dust. Not a memory I like but one that would comfort me as I die."

James snorted. "I thought you hated me? Now I am what you'll take to your grave?" she glared. "Yeah I might. Got a problem?" he sighed. "Well, how would you act in a situation that tomorrow night will be your last?" his smile was subtle. "This is enough for me. I'd act normal. Maybe do every prank and teach Peter a few things. But my day would pass by and as I die your face and the times we had will be what I remember. Fights included. With you in my life stepping into the plain of the dead is rather easy." he looked into her vivid green orbs. She broke the gaze and blushed slightly at such a cheesy remark.

Then the rain fell.

The two Gryffindors hurriedly used the same cloak to cover themselves but by then they were thoroughly soaked. She angrily met his gaze as if to say that this was his fault. Then she sneezed. James couldn't help but laugh. Unfortunately laughter is contagious and soon they were both laughing: at the rain, her sneeze and the ridiculous tension.

"I guess this isn't so bad after all." Lily stuck out her hand to feel the rain. "My days are always better when you're near me." she gave him a coy smile. "I still don't like you." she gushed. "Thought you'd say that." he planted a chaste kiss on her lips. "But one day you will." he grinned as she turned away blushing.

Lily's mind clung to that memory. Even as the Killing Curse struck her.
