The Problem

“Oh for fucks sake, Moony look at this shit” Sirius nods his head towards the Slytherin table, more specifically at Regulus who seems to be having his hair played with by some Ravenclaw as he tries to move away. While Regulus looked a tad uncomfortable his friends were around him and would make sure nothing would happen, even if they were laughing at his misfortune.
Remus looks up from his book, “Honestly Sirius I don't see the big deal, he’s just getting flirted with,”
“Just getting flirted with,” Sirius says, appalled, “He’s obviously uncomfortable and who gave that scum the right to touch my baby brother.” Sirius grumbles, mostly to himself
“Ok this is obviously bothering you,” Remus says, finally putting his book completely down, “so what's the real problem?” He asked sternly.
Sirius had been acting like this since they started their seventh year, getting all pissy whenever someone tried to get with his ‘precious baby brother.’ The other marauders didn’t quite get why Sirius was so upset but just chalked it up to Sirius being overprotective. Unfortunately, it was starting to become a real issue whenever someone even talked to Regulus, Sirius would stiffen and complain to no end and Remus, for one, was done with it.
“Everytime someone gets close to your brother you freak out, why?” Remus doubled down.
“I-” Sirius seemed uncomfortable suddenly with the sudden confrontation, he knew he had been acting weird about Regulus but ever since Regulus had shown up on the Potter’s door his guilt of leaving Regulus behind had come back tenfold and his need to compensate for time lost had become almost overwhelming. “I just think Regulus has been through enough, he doesn’t need any more trouble.” Sirius grumbled out
Remus, not expecting him to give a real answer, patted him on his shoulder “I know you care for him and he knows that too but he needs to make his own decisions about these things.”
But, as much as Sirius knew Remus was right, he would never admit it, he was a stubborn prick after all, especially when it came to his brother.
Remus saw that he would get nowhere with Sirius so he decided to change the subject and talk about the upcoming potions test which Sirius was already prepared to fail.
Remus and Sirius continue to talk when James walks in, already staring at Lily, just as he does everyday. Lily of course knew that James was staring but decidedly ignored him, just as she did everyday. It was this little game they liked to play called ‘Lily doesn't like James but this does not stop James from liking Lily’ the whole school knew of this game but no one seemed to enjoy it.
“Mate you’ve got to stop ogling Evans” Peter said.
“Wormtail,” James looked up surprised with a slight blush, “when did you even get here?” James asked Peter who just shrugged in response.
“Wormy’s right Prongs, you’ve got to get over this, it’s a little sad” Sirius decidedly joined in. Sirius was tired of the rants about Lily, and the constant pinning that would never be returned.
“I know guys but how am I even supposed to get over her? She’s what I’ve thought about for 7 fucking years now its not like its that easy to stop thinking about someone, especially when I don’t have much else to do, pranking and quidditch can only take up so much of the brain.”
James had a point, Sirius thought, he felt bad for James but he was also tired of the constant talk of Lily especially since he knew that Lily didn’t have an ounce of interest in James. Godric why couldn’t things be easy, it was there last year they were supposed to enjoy it but with his brother and now his best friend, he wished he could just solve their problems for them. Maybe he should just listen to Remus and let them figure it out for themselves, that would be the rational thing to do, of course when did Sirius do anything rational? So he thought what if he could solve their problems, and with a little thought, that's when the lightbulb went off.
“You should hang out with my brother,” Sirius exclaimed, proud of himself.
