I lay my pen down as a tear slowly makes its way down to my chin. I'm pretty sure they've never mentioned this amount of homework in the acceptance letter.
To make my frustration even worse, I'm starting to sweat. It's May, and it's getting pretty hot outside, so naturally, the heat takes the inside of the castle by storm. And instead of enjoying the warm weather, maybe planning a trip to Hogsmeade to just have fun with my friends and think about nothing, here I am. In the library. Studying. Oh well, I may as well call it dying. It's just not fun anymore.
I bury my face in my hands, trying to hide my despair, and more tears attempt to make their way down. They get somewhat blocked by my hands, but not enough to keep pretending I have my shit together. I groan and silently curse Snape and all the 7 potions I have to be able to do perfectly by the end of the week. More tears. More groaning.
"So, how's the studying going?"
I slowly lift my face from my hands and see Cedric standing by the table, a mixture of concern and slight amusement on his face. I give a weak smile and lift my thumb up in the air. "Spectacular."
A tiny smile begins to form on his lips. "I see", he begins. "But I'm going to assume those tears didn't come from an insane amount of happiness."
"You might be right" I mumble.
He walks over to the chair next to me. In the process of sliding the chair back, he accidentally hits the bookshelf behind him, causing at least four books to tumble down to the ground. Naturally, Madam Pince immediately comes around the corner to tell Cedric off, and while he desperately tries to put the books back where they belong, a whole bunch of other books fall from the shelves.
Madam Pince shuts the door behind us with a loud bang and a last huff.
"I love how great you are at fixing my life problems, Cedric" I say, half smiling, half trying to stuff all of my books in my poor bag. "I'm so sorry, y/n. I really didn't mean to get us kicked out. It was an acci-" I cut his apology off by softly pressing my lips to his. He gently places his hands around my waist and pulls me closer. The kiss lasts longer than I expected or intented to, but I'm not complaining.
When we finally let go of each other, there is a nervous looking first year standing 15 feet away from us, obviously waiting to enter the library. I grab Cedric's hand and pull him with me. While running I call a quick "sorry!" to the first year, while laughing so hard that it's barely understandable.
Finally, we flop down onto the grass next to the Black Lake. We're both still laughing, but very much out of breath. A slight breeze has come to dissipate the heat, the trees are in full bloom, and some gryffindors are trying to feed the giant squid ice cream. It's a beautiful summer's day. I lay flat on my back in the cool grass, closing my eyes and listening to all the sounds around me.
I open one eye and see Cedric staring at me. "Can I help you?" I taunt him. He smiles softly. He's very cute, hair bewildered and red cheeks from running in the heat. He slowly strokes my arm, and then moves up to stroke my hair."No, please, continue with what you were doing. I'm just making sure Snape doesn't come by to give you even more assignments." He says smoothly. "Thank god. You're an angel."
