Chapter 3
11th march 1971
Remus woke up after another full moon in his small cellar feeling all of the new scratches and frech cuts on his body. The transformation had gotten worse since he had been bitten, but he recovered faster, normally in a day or two.
It was the middle of spring and he could see the early sun shining in through the little window. This meant his mother would come get him soon so he just laid there trying not to move too much. After a couple of minutes Hope came in with a blanket which she wrapped around Remus so she could carry him to the bathroom. Remus had grown a lot since he had been five and soon she wouldn't be able to carry him anymore.
He sat in the bathtub for an hour cleaning all his wounds with a damp washcloth. His mother let him do this by himself wanting to give him some privacy. Remus enjoyed his time in the bath. The lukewarm water made his muscles feel lighter and his skin less itchy.
Over the years he had gotten a lot of scars which he was rather selfconcious about. He never took his shirt of when he was at James's house in the summer even when it was unbearably hot. James understood this and never ever pushed him to do something remus didn't want to do.
As soon as Remus was done he slowly walked back to his room which was right next to the bathroom. He had to hold on to either the wall or the bookshelves to be able to walk but this made him feel much more independent than being carried. His mother had made him a big breakfast, as always, which was now sitting next to his bed. He wasn't particularly hungry this morning but sometimes he could eat all of the various foods his parents arranged for him.
As soon as he had gotten to bed his mother came into his bedroom to give him a sleeping draught and something to soothe the pain. He fell asleep rather quickly and only woke up when James came to visit in the afternoon. The bespactacled boy with his jet black mess of hair entered the room excited to see his friend.
"Hey Rem, I am so glad you are awake because I have something so bloody amazing to show you.", he pulled something from behind his back "This is the newest and best broom on the market. It is the fastest one yet and with the help of this I will defenitely get on the Quidditch team. Not that I wouldn't get on without it." He grinned at Remus waiting for a response.
Remus loved this about James. He didn't treat him like somebody who needed to be protected. James was the perfect distraction after a full moon. He never made Remus feel small or breakable but like any other person.
"You know you're not allowed to take a broom in first year, right?",Remus asked
"Oh of course I know that but Remus you got to think big. Dream big. I'll just sneak it in and as soon as they see me flying they just have to let me on the quidditch team.", James said confidently sitting down on the chair next to Remus's bed.
"Yeah sure James whatever you say"
"well whatever, do you want to play something?", James asked changing the subject
29th July 1971
The doorbell rang. Remus immediately jumped up to look out the window, curious to see who it was. Nobdy ever came to their house unless his parents invited them which also didn't happen very often. And normally it was only James or Peter and their families. But this time Remus saw a very strange looking man. He was wearing long robes in a lilac color with silver stars everywear. His white beard reached to the floor and on top on his head sat a big pointy wizards hat in the same colour as his shiny robes.
When his father opened the door, the strange man introduces himself as Albus Dumbledore the Headmaster of Hogwarts. Remus, who was listening from the top of the stairs, was very excited about this. He had been trying to convince his parents to let him go to Hogwarts since the beginning of the year. They hadn't made a decision but Remus knew that they thought it was too dangerous. 'Maybe Dumbledore can convince them', he thought.
"Good afternoon Albus, why don't you come in", Lyall said, opening the door wider to let Dumbledore in.
"I know why you are here Albus and I dont think it is a good idea to let Remus go to Hogwarts. It's too dangerous. What if someone finds out? He also can't use flo powder around the full moon so he would miss a lot of school and a lot of people would get suspicious. He obviously can't spend the full moons at school that would be the most dangerous of all. I just don't think it is a good idea", Lyall started.
"I understand your worries Lyall, but It would also be a great experience for him. he could make new friends and learn a lot of things. Concerning the Full moons I also have an idea. I know that he can not use the flo powder so i think that we could arrange something on the school grounds", Dumbledore said.
"What is it?", Lyall asked.
"Well if we could build some kind of house or room, protected by a lot of charms of course with a secret entrance that only a small group of people know about he could spend the night there and our healer madame Pompfry has already agreed to take care of him..."
"Did you just tell somebody about him?", Lyall interrupted abruptly
"No of course not. I just asked her if she would be willing to take care of a werewolf and she said yes. before you agree to this you could of course fget the opportunity to talk to her and meet her.", Dumbledore answered camly.
"Well I guess I have to talk to my wife about this but I'm pretty sure Remus would love going and knowing he is in good hands is very reassuring. We'll think about it but thank you for making the effort. This truly means a lot to our family." Lyall said with a thoughtfull look on his face.
"Well i have to get going but I am glad to be of service. Good bye", Albus said getting up and leaving.
The next few days the little famly spend discussing if Remus should go or not. Remus was clearly on the going side and he felt like his father also thought that would be best. He wasn't sure about his mother though. Hope seemed very worried about her son but after a lot of convincing and a meeting with Hogwarts healer she finally agreed to letting Remus go to Hogwarts.
This was was the best news Remus had heard in a very long time and he immediatly started preparing everything so that he could go to his dream school.
