Chapter 1
January 7th 1966
5 year old Remus ran ahead of his parents up the long driveway of the Potters estate. James was waiting at the doorstep with a very excited grin, seeing his best friend arrive at his home.
He lived in a mansion with a beautiful lake and forest on the property, but remus didn't think James realised how lucky he was.
Remus lived in a much smaller cottage at the edge of a big forest only a 2 minute walk away from the next village. The small family of three owned a nice little garden where Remus' mother grew her own vegetables and a beautiful selection of flowers. Most of them were non magical, since she herself was a muggle but she also took care of a couple magical plants for her husband, Lyall.
The small family had been visitig the potters for about two years and they had grown very close. they talked for hours on end about their lives with kids but also about their lives before. Hope told the three purebloods about her childhood as a muggle.
Sometimes the Pettigrews would join them to hang out, but they lived an hour long drive away so they couldn't join them very often. They all, especially the kids, were very close anyways and loved spending time together and hanging out.
On this particular day Peter and his family weren't able to join them for games night.
After Euphemia and Fleamont welcomed Hope an Lyall, them and the two boys went to the living room to chat and have a little drink first.
The living room was a big area connected to the dining room with huge windows looking out to the beautiful garden. There were three leather couches gathered around the coffee table. In front of them was the old fireplace with pictures of the whole family on top of it. Remus had always thought is was a very cozy and welcoming room, that made him feel welcome and very at ease.
Remus did not understand a word the adults were saying but he also did not really care. When James whispered "want to play exploding snap?" to him he was extremely releaved and immediately jumped up to go to the kitchen with him.
"That was so boring Rem", James said. Remus could only agree.
"lets play. You can start", remus told james and after that they played exploding snap until Hope and Euphemia had to kick them out of the kitchen because they wanted to start cooking.
James and Remus went up to James room to hang out there and on their way up Remus heard their fathers talking in the living room.
" ...Greybacks trial is really...", he overheard his father say but does not pay it any mind and went on to follow James up his room.
The rest of the evening was as enjoyable and fun as always. They all played a ton of games and the food was so amazing that Remus ate so much he felt sick afterwards. The Lupin family went home feeling amazing and once they arrived home they got to bed feeling exhausted and happy.
After that Remus does not really know what happened. The only thing he remembered from that night was a weird shadow in his window and his mother screaming and crying for her Husband. Aside from that the next couple of days were just a big blur.
A Hospital room.
His Mother crying.
Nurses checking on him.
Blood on his Hospital gown.
The pain.
So much pain.
Nobody had told him what had happened and even though he saw the bite mark on his hip he did not understand. What was it? Why was nobody telling him anything? He wanted to know. He needed to know.
