Chapter 3
When it finally hit, everyone was quiet. They didn't even whisper, they just all stared at him with scared faces. Joey's heart beat fastened and her head was spinning. She just couldn't place what was happening, 'was this all real?' She thought.
After a couple of minutes Mattheo locked eyes with Joey, but she didn't want to but she couldn't not look at him but eventually Dumbledore dismissed us to go to our rooms and let us leave. So Joey went immediately to the dungeons not even saying anything to Harry, Ron and Hermione. She just needs to process somethings herself and went to sleep early
The next day classes started and off course he was there. Joey wasn't really sure if she should talk to him or not. Throughout the day she overheard a conversation with a fellow Slytherin girl and Mattheo and he asked her "Do you know Joey Scamander? I am looking for her." The girl seemed disappointed, that he was asking for Joey instead of her but she said "of course I know her she's famous around here", "really?" he asked looking curious. Joey walked away knowing damn well why he was looking for her.
After classes he went up to Joey and said "Hey you, what are you up to?", "nothing much" she said. "Can you tell me your name? now you now mine", " I don't really think you wanna know my name" she said. "Why?" he asked. She answered with "I have my reasons". "Well then, maybe you can help me find someone. I am looking for Joey Scamander, do you know where I can find her?" he asked. Joey was smiling at this point and with this surly tone she said "you're looking right at her." He was too stunned to speak. He looked kinda guilty and sorry for her than he said "okay then well good to see you" and then he left, not knowing what to say or do now.
The next couple of days he didn't talk or even looked at her. She didn't get why he would ignore her. She knows that he is here to kill her, to finish what Tom Riddle started and get the power of the darkness inside of her, well that's what Joey thought, but why didn't he kill her already? Did he maybe care for her or does he have a plan to kill her? Joey is very curious to find out.
After a week Mattheo started to get annoyed at everything Joey does and has comments about everything. Joey talks right back at him what causes a lot of trouble between the two of them. They started to fight daily for the next couple of weeks. Joey doesn't get why he is so annoying to her, like if he wanted to kill her he should just do it already, but what is he up to?
Mattheo also joined the Slytherin quidditch team so now he is a team mate of Joey what causes a lot of trouble on the team too, but they where a pretty good team together, because Mattheo and Joey are both beaters.
Eventually they're fighting less and less and they get along more, because Mattheo is now friends with Draco, Blaise and Lorenzo. But they still hate each other. Mattheo still likes to show off to everyone and annoy Joey. But after all they get along, but fight regularly though.
Joey likes to keep her peace and withdraws herself from the rest of the group and of course Mattheo. She always sits at the astronomy tower on her own, where no one bothers her. it helps her to focus on herself. But sometimes she sits at the Gryffindor common room with Harry, Ron and Hermione.
But besides the problems between Joey and Mattheo there was still the triwizard tournament happening. The day came where the champions would be chosen. Everyone gathered in the great hall, all the students from the different schools. Then Dumbledore started talking and the goblet of fire started trowing names, the first name was Victor Krum, everyone started clapping. The next name that came out of the goblet was Fleur Delacour and at last Cedric Diggory. But that wasn't all, there was one more piece of parchment that came out of the goblet. Dumbledore was surprised and shouted "Harry Potter". Everyone was staring at Harry and everyone was quiet. He didn't stand up, then Dumbledore shouted again. Harry stood up and went to take the piece of parchment and went to the room for the champions. No one got it and people started to assume that he cheated
Harry's friends believed him of course, but there were a lot of students that thought he cheated. It was quite weird though, apparently it never happend before. this was the first time ever. Like if being the chosen one isn't enough. But everyone let it go till Malfoy came with these stupid badges which were saying "Potter Stinks, support Cedric the real champion"
Joey and Cedric did become very close friends though, besides the battle between the champions. They know each other for a long time now and they became closer to the Weasleys
After all of that calmed down, it was time for the first task. The first task involved dragons. Dragons who came all the way from Romania with Charlie Weasley. Joey loves dragons and loves taking care of magical creatures and she is very good at it especially dragons so she helps the best dragon trainers with there job but she is very good at it.
Cedric diggory went first, that went really well. Later went Victor Krum en Fleur Delacour, which went also really good. And as last: Harry Potter he had to take the egg from the Hungarian horn tale, that's the most dangerous of al four dragons.
But there was something very odd about that dragon, it was very aggressive and destructive. Eventually it broke the chains where it was connected too. It lost his mind and wanted to attack Harry. The dragon tamers didn't know what to do, but Joey stepped right in and tamed the dragon. That's how she found out that the dragon was hexed. Right when she thought the dragon was calm, it attacked her. It scratched her right on her waist, she collapsed right in front everyone. They took her to the hospital wing, where she laid for a couple a weeks because a dragon scratch doesn't heal that easily.
Between the first and second task there was also the yule ball, where almost everyone had found a date, besides Joey who was still laying,in the hospital wing. Joey and Cedric had a good bond like they felt more than just friends, but he asked Cho Chang instead of her. No one saw that coming because everyone thought he'd ask Joey. So no one dared to ask Joey, but after that, there were a lot of boys who still wanted to take their shot with Joey. But Joey didn't even know why he didn't choose her. She didn't even want to anymore. But eventually she got asked by her best friend Enzo. So they went together as friends.
When they were practicing the opening dance Joey was stable enough to join the rest of the school. They choose two students from each house to dance in front of the entire school. Dumbledore had chosen Mattheo Riddle and Joey Scamander. They where both surprised because they couldn't stand each other. maybe this was all Dumbledore's plan. They stood up and held each other and then the music started and it was the song which they danced on during the summer, which was very odd cause nobody knew that. When they started dancing, Dumbledore casted a simple spell and Mattheo and Joey whore the exact same clothes they whore at the little pub. Everyone was clapping because it looked very cool, but Joey and Mattheo were in shock though. But at least Joey and Mattheo weren't fighting in that moment. They just smiled and kept dancing and everyone was cheering them. In that moment, time stopped and everyone disappeared, the only ones in the room where Joey and Mattheo. Just like that one night during summer. But after a minute or two the music stopped and everything went back to reality.
Later Joey went to Dumbledores office to ask how he knew, but his answer was just "my eyes are sealed" and then he sent her away. Joey had no clue what that meant but she didn't let it disrupt her thoughts.
She felt a little better but the wound still hurt. She was well enough to attend the yule ball. When the night fell everyone came together in the great hall. And then the moment came, all the boys were gathering right in front of the great hall, waiting for their dates. In that moment Joey, Hermione, Pansy, Luna, Ginny, Lucille and Onyx came down the stairs. All the girls walked separately down the stairs. First Hermione Granger awaited by Victor Krum. As second Pansy Parkinson who was awaited by Draco Malfoy. Then there was Neville Longbottom waiting for Luna Lovegood and there were Lucille and Onyx Santos who came down to their dates Theodore not and Blaise Zabini. At least there was Joey Scamander coming down the stairs and everyone was quiet no one could bring something out all the boys were staring at her, because she looked stunning and then there was Cedric diggory also staring whilst holding hands with Cho Chang. Even Ron, Harry, Fred and George where staring and they knew each other for ages now. But there were boys from durmstrang and Hogwarts staring.
The opening dance was done by the champions and their dates. After that it was a fantastic night to remember, for some better than for the other. But it still wasn't clear if Cedric Diggory did like Joey back or not. But that's an issue for another time...
