‘Please just shut up!’
Rose entered the Great Hall with a wide grin on her face, holding her books in front of her chest. She skimmed through the room until she discovered Albus sitting next to Scorpius at one of the big tables, pretty close to the entryway. She made her way over to them slamming her books onto the table next to him, the grin never leaving her face. She slid onto the bench and sat down next to her cousin.
“Soooooo,” she teased, “Have you heard?”
“Ugh, just shut it, Rose!” Albus rolled his eyes at her.
“Heard what?” Louis, who was sitting across on the other side of the table, whispered to Rose, raising his eyebrows. He had an arm around his new girlfriend, Olivia Longbottom, who was leaning against him their feet intertwined under the table.
“Oh, suddenly you listen?” Albus scoffed at him, “for the last 20 minutes I’ve been trying to talk to you about our potions homework, while you were busy being all in love with your girlfriend over there,” he says pointing at the blonde-haired girl sitting next to Louis.
“I do have a name, Potter. Besides I am far more interesting than any of Sluggy’s stupid homework.” The girl responded. Rose and Louis nodded in agreement and Albus just rolled his eyes at them clearly annoyed.
“Anyways,” Scorpius broke the tension, “What were you going to say, Rose?”
“Oh right,” she paused, for dramatic purposes only, “Apparently we are getting a new Defence Teacher.” The grin appeared back on her face, “And rumour has it, it is gonna be non-other than Harry The-Boy-Who-Lived Potter.” She turned her face back to look at Albus, “And I am sure our mate Al over here looooves to hear this.”
“Ugh, will you stop it?” Albus dropped his head into his hands rubbing temples with his thumbs. Scorpius placed one arm around him, comforting him.
“This is the funniest thing I have heard all week!” Louis exclaimed chuckling.
“Right?” Rose responded, “That’s what I said to Vic as well when she told me!”
“She told you before me?” Louis asked loudly and in shock, “I thought she was my sister, not yours” he crosses his arm in front of his chest and frowns at her.
“Dramatic much?” Rose asked sarcastically mocking his behaviour which earned her a laugh from Liv. Louis glared at both of the girls. Liv rolled her eyes and turned her attention back to Albus. “Listen, Al, having your father as a teacher isn't that bad. I have been doing it since we started Hogwarts.”
Albus lifted his head to look at her and sighed, “Liv, your dad teaches Herbology and no offence, but that’s like one of the driest subjects here and no one pays attention to him or cares about the fact you are his daughter. But Defence? Everybody loves that class…”
Scorpius interrupts him snorting into his drink, “Everyone?”
Albus waved him off, “You don’t count. Anyways - It is gonna be so embarrassing.”
“You already embarrass yourself as it is,” Rose placed a hand on his shoulder, “Harry won’t need to add to that.” She grinned at him.
“Shut up!” he told her off shaking her hand off his shoulder. Rose and Louis exchange a look before bursting into laughter.
“So what you are saying is, that just because my dad teaches Herbology I don’t know what it is like to have him around all the time? He’s also Head of the House I am in if you forgot!” Liv’s tone slowly got an annoyed tone. She hated when people underestimated her father. She was proud of him and couldn’t stand it when people didn’t take him seriously.
“No no no!” Albus defended quickly, “That’s not what I meant! I just don’t want him around all the time,” he explained “he is so awkward.”
“You don’t even know if he is gonna take the job yet,” Scorpius tried to calm him down.
“Yeah and knowing your mother she’ll probably make fun of him if he takes it anyway,” Rose added, “And Dad will too.”
“Yeah mate, Harry Potter coming back to Hogwarts to become a teacher? That’s quite the news. Skeeter is gonna have a blast with that one.” Louis laughed.
“Yall are no help here,” Scorpius glared at the two before turning to Albus, “It’s gonna be alright Al, I support you.” he placed his hand on one of Albus’ interlocking their fingers. Albus looked up at him and smiled.
“Ugh, you two! Seriously get a room!” Rose exclaimed looking at them in disgust before turning her attention to the other two people sitting across from them only to see them kissing. “Ugh! Why did yall have to start dating? I’m constantly fifth wheeling now?” She rolled her eyes opening her book.
“I mean you could just start dating me?” A voice coming from behind her called out. She jumped at the sudden noise before turning around.
“Jeez, Mason you scared the crap out of me.” The tall, brown-haired boy slipped into the seat next to her, “So what did I miss?”
Rose opened her mouth, ready to repeat what she had said just a few minutes ago but Albus interrupted her, “Nothing!”
“Hey, that is not fair!” Mason cried, “You’ll tell me later right, Weasley?” he shoved his elbow into Roses' side playfully.
“First of all, it’s Granger-Weasley and second of all stop flirting with me. We kissed once at a party. It is never going to happen.”
“Glad to see you interpreting my kindness as flirting,” he winked at her but only received an eye-roll in response, “Besides with these four love birds we’re bound to spend more time together anyway. Might as well get used to it.”
Rose turned back to her four other friends seeing if they heard what he had just said. But they didn’t. They were all involved in their own little conversations. She turned back to look at Mason, “Honestly, why did they all have to start dating?” she asks him.
He chuckled, “Hormones, I guess” he answers looking at the two pairs, “Let them be happy Rose. And just that you know, I was only joking before! If I made you feel uncomfortable feel free to hit me.” He put out his arm offering her a spot where she could hit him.
“Please, I don’t slap people who are weaker than me.”
He took down his arm and chuckled at her, “Okay so I heard you and I are partnered for Sluggys homework?”
Rose sighed, “Why did you have to remind me?” she turned her attention back to her book and pointed at the potion they are supposed to be making over the week.
“That doesn’t seem too bad?” Mason asked her, raising one eyebrow.
“Oh it isn’t, but Sluggy hates me so he’s gonna be extra critical of it,” she explained
“A teacher hating you?” Mason looked at her in mocking shock putting a hand in front of his mouth, “How are you gonna survive this?”
Rose glared at him, staring him down with her famous you-are-literally-dumb-and-don’t-deserve-to-live face. He shot up both of his arms in defence, “Okay okay I am sorry. I promise I will be on my best behaviour during this homework.”
“Good!” Rose said, “We could probably get started after Defence later.” she explained.
“Oh, speaking of Defence. Did you know we are supposed to get a new teacher soon?” He blurted out, loud enough for the rest of the group to hear.
Louis, Liv and Rose break out in laughter.
“Please just shut up!” Albus and Scorpius say in unison.
