You would normally think that James was the sun, but really it was Regulus. Regulus was the sun. Once he opened up to you, once you managed to melt his cold outer layer, he was so warm, so kind. The corners of his eyes crinkled when he laughed at your jokes, and his smile was contagious. And adorable.

James was the stars. he sparkled and shined, and everyone reached towards him, aspiring to be just like him. There was so much of him that he selflessly gave to others when needed. He was affectionate and sympathetic, everyone loved him.

Regulus had once thought that they were meant to be. James had melted Regulus’s outer layer with the heat of his stars, and Regulus was the one lucky person that managed to win over James’s loyal heart. They fooled around, they did everything, made every mistake. And they’d never felt happier anywhere else, with anyone else. But what was most important was that they were together. They were in love with each other, they made each other happy, they loved each other so dearly.

But they were never meant to be.

There was the moon, Lily was the moon. She was so majestic, her emerald green eyes and her ginger hair that was the perfect shade of orange. Of course James belonged with Lily. She was absolutely beautiful, everyone admired her.

The sun and the stars were never meant to be. The stars belonged with the moon, and the sun was left all alone, in the day, and when night finally came, the sun set, and the long awaited stars finally appeared. But the sun had set, the sun was gone, not even a second of time spent with the stars.

Some days, Regulus would linger around the corridors outside James’s classes, just to catch a glimpse of his ex-lover. The one that had stolen his fragile heart made of glass and accidentally dropped it, causing it to shatter into a million pieces. Regulus would sneak glances at James and Lily, causing himself so much hurt. James looked so happy with her, so happy without him, so much happier than him. The way they didn’t have to hide their sweet kisses, the way they held hands and swung their linked arms in the hallways, the way everyone envied their relationship. The way James smiled so widely around her, his smile ten times wider than when he was around Regulus. The way James and Lily fit together nicely, just like the right pieces of a puzzle. They fit together even better than James and Regulus had fit, which most people would have thought fit perfectly. James and Lily together was the definition of more than perfection.

They were never meant to be together. no matter how long the sun would chase after the stars, it could take the sun years, decades, centuries, but the stars always stayed with the moon, they always were meant for the moon, the way they spread nicely around the greyish, dimly-lit ball. The way the stars sparkled accompanied the dim moonlight just perfectly.

So, James Potter’s and Regulus Black’s destinies were never meant to be together.

The sun was left alone, while the stars had their moon.
