A friend that I hadn’t caught up in a long time asked if I could draw her something. Little did I know she wanted a fanart of Tom Riddle | Voldemort / Harry Potter.
Not that I didn’t read the HP books (in Chinese though, so I’m not sure whether if there’s any discrepancy), but until this commission, I didn’t step foot into the fan fiction / doujin space for this franchise.
After some research (read: “indulgence”), I can really see why people find TRHP a palatable pairing, so much dark T E N S I O N 🤌👌
The title is a reference to the Laurence Sterne’s novel “A Sentimental Journey Through France and Italy” (1765), specifically the symbol of “[the] starling hung in a little cage.”, that plaintively clamoured “I can’t get out—I can’t get out” repeatedly, which mirrored, and objectified a Bastille of the protagonist’s own fears in miniature. The plight of the caged song bird is a rich metaphor for the condition of the man shut up in the prison of his own subjectivity; an emblematic symbol of self-enclosure and captivity.
I can go on and on about this, e.g. affective power of a caged nonhuman animal over a human animal, but I will leave it to your own rumination (especially those who had read Sterne’s novel) as to why I resonated with it, in the context of the Tomarry ship.
On the artwork itself, it’s been a while since I last drew anything remotely this complex. My workload irl was also pretty bad during this period, so I took a long time to finish this. But now looking at the end product, I think it’s worth it, and I hope my friend finds it worth her bang as well lmao.

一月底的時候，很久沒有聯繫的友人A委託我畫一張哈利波特的同人圖，CP是我先前想都沒想過的伏地魔x哈利💀 基本上朋友圈內委託我畫圖的，就是要我畫香噴噴但不會太重口味的飯。玩笑歸玩笑，我真的非常感謝大家的捧場，雖然我的產量實在是…低的有目共睹。
不過這次的CP本身就已經很有衝（性）擊（張）性（力），友人A還指定說要畫黑化的哈利…實在是考倒一個很久沒有畫同人圖的半桶水繪師。
我對伏哈CP不熟，所以我還是有乖乖的爬同人文找靈感。一開始真的很納悶這個CP的萌點在哪裡，但是沈澱一下後發現…

說了這麼多，還是得回到同人圖本身。我基本上沒有畫過黑化的同人圖，加上春節到二月底實在是忙到一個懷疑人生，所以繪圖過程中遇到了為數不少的瓶頸。但是難產歸難產，這次的圖我是相當滿意的，連我自己都覺得很香哈哈哈。 標題《星椋贊歌》取自於英國小說家勞倫斯·斯特恩的小說《感傷遊記》。雖然畫同人圖在乎的就是飯香不香（喂），我還是有好好的思忖能夠代入這個CP的符號滴。
