Letters. Regulus loves letters, because what better way to say the your feelings without actually saying your emotions?
Regulus picked up the pen, dipping the tip into the inkwell.
Dear Potter James,
How are you? Are you doing well? It has been a very long time since we have seen each other. How's things?
Is everything alright? You seem to be ignoring me these days. I miss you our late night talks. Want to see each other at the astronomy tower later, 6 o'clock?
Love Sincerely,
R.A.B
Regulus felt like an idiot writing soppy letters like that. He felt like person straight out of a romance novel. He felt very conflicted on the amount of erasures, especially for a short letter like that one.
He throws the letter into his drawer for tomorrow. God forbid, Regulus loves his common room, but it would have been nice to have a few windows around there.
Regulus woke up, fairly excited to give James the letter. Damn, his stupid fat crush on him.
"Morning, Reg." Greeted Barty, with a hoarse voice.
Regulus nodded at him visibly tired friend. They both go down to the great hall for breakfast.
Their other friend, Evan was waiting. "Took you long enough, the grass grew without you." He exaggerated, face stuffed with food.
Barty rolled his eyes, plopping down on the chair. Regulus sat down gently next to him.
"Hogsmead visit is tomorrow. Who are you taking, Barty?" Evan asked, speech muffled with food.
Barty shrugged while he feeds a spoonful into his mouth. "Dunno, you?"
Evan shrugged.
For a pair people who knew each other since the first year, that was a painfully awkward and short conversation. Regulus thought.
They all finish breakfast.
"We're going to the lake, Reg. Want to come?" Barty offered.
Regulus shook his head in response. "No you go ahead. I have something to do at the owlrey." He said simply. Not technically a lie. Actually it wasn't a lie at all. It just lacked crucially important information.
He walked to owlrey. He felt very dramatic giving a simple letter to James by owl. He could have given it to him in person or something. God, Regulus Black likes being dramatic.
He sat down onto the floor that was full of bird shit waiting for James' response.
He doesn't realize but he's fallen asleep already. A piece of parchment levitates above his forehead, causing Regulus to wake up startled.
Hey, I miss you too. I'll meet you there. See you.
- Owl was a bit much, just saying.
Regulus smiled at the sweet response.
He walked to the tower quickly. In the hallways, he hears somebody hum a tune of the song. Suddenly, he feels scared. Not that he was scary song it was Good Old Fashion Lover Boy by a muggle band named Queen. He actually found it very soothing and nice but sort of terrifying.
James leaned against the hallway wall while humming the song quietly. Slightly out of pitch. But Regulus doesn't want to admit it.
"Hey," He whispered, stepping out of the dark.
James shifted on the wall quietly. "Hey, Reg. God, you scared me." He said, clutching his chest aggressively.
James smiled sweetly, walking towards Regulus. "How have you been? By the way, I haven't been ignoring you. I've just been busy with school stuff."
Regulus sighed, relieved. "Good, I'm good."
James smiled wider. "So, hogsmeade visit tomorrow. Who are you taking?" He said in a sing-song way.
"Dunno, haven't thought about." He shrugs. Hoping I could go with you.
"Well, I need advice." He said softly. "How do I ask out a girl?"
Regulus' eyes widened sadly. So, so sadly.
"Oh."
"Yeah, I want to ask out Lily." He said looking far ahead.
Regulus wouldn't say he has anger issues but he really wanted to yell and break something. Or breakdown even.
"Uhm, you could start with a pick up line." He suggested plainly.
James looked at him slowly, intrigued. "Sure, any suggestions?"
Regulus doesn't want to say anything. "Eh, what do you have in mind?" He said instead.
"She's got great tits." He said plainly.
Regulus punches his forearm very very harshly James almost tumbles on to the ground. "Do. Not. Say that. It's disrespectful. Very."
James groaned exasperated, clutching Regulus' arm dramatically and very tightly. "I know! I'm a ghoul. Ugh, it's all Sirius' fault. He's always on about how girls have amazing tits and other stuff. It's exhausting."
Regulus chuckled, pushing James of off his sleeve. "You could say she has nice hair and her outfit is cute."
"But what if it's not?"
Regulus rolled his eyes. "Then don't say anything to her ever again."
James groaned again. "Ugh, Regulus help me!" He exclaimed.
"Okay, say 'You look very good today. Would you like to go to hogsmeade with me?" Regulus said. He meant it with his whole heart.
James smiled widely. "Thank you, Regulus. Come on, let's go to the tower. I want to show you something. It's really really cool." He said enthusiastically.
The night went smoothly but Regulus only wished he got to feel James' lips smoothly on his.
Suddenly, he feels very conflicted about him asking out Lily. Despite her being a muggleborn, she was a very sweet girl who deserved someone as sweet as James. Just not James himself.
Most days when James decides to ask out a girl, Regulus wouldn't mind. But this time is different. Frustratingly different.
Regulus groaned, wanting to gnaw his own head off.
He fell asleep, with not so good thoughts in his mind.
Regulus feels a soft sensation brushing on his lips very softly.
"Reg," A familiar voice whispered into his ears, erotically.
Regulus agapes wandering the face who didn't technically have a face but felt very very familiar.
The person moves to kiss Regulus' mouth sloppily. Regulus moans softly into the person's mouth.
Regulus' back arches upward in motion. The person trails down Regulus' chest towards his pants, unzipping it with their mouth.
Regulus throws his head back against the headboard that he didn't even know was there. They, he, (Regulus could only dream who it was.) pulls away, leaving Regulus in his underpants sitting there.
"What do you want?" Says the voice smirking.
Regulus holds back wanton moan. "You," He croaks out. "James, you."
Before anything could happen, Regulus woke up.
"You okay?" Barty asked with concerns face, hovering over Regulus.
Regulus groaned loudly at his friend. Not only did he ruin his everlasting long dream of James, he woke him up in the middle of the morning.
"What?" He asked, voice slightly hoarsed.
Barty gave him a weird look, "Hogsmead?" He said in a 'duh' tone.
Regulus realised. Right, the dreaded Hogsmead visit. "I'm not going, you can go."
"Seriously?"
He nodded, aggressively at his friend.
"Fine, you're going to regret it. Just like how you regretted not punching Evan in the face at that party. Maybe wouldn't have embarrassed you." He shrugged.
Damn, he made fair points.
Regulus groaned again, deciding to go Hogsmead. Maybe then he'll get drunk and hook up with some girl. Maybe then he'll be happy.
"Nice of you to join us, Reg." Evan grinned, crossing his arms.
"Fuck off, I'm only here to get drunk." He said, waving his hands to his friend dismissively.
Barty grinned widely, "Aren't we all?"
They all walked to Hogsmead in unison. If anyone's going to be honest, people would have thought they were part of some cult, seeing as though they dressed almost the same.
"Why is it so cold?!" Barty exclaimed, angrily. "Can't you walk faster?! Fucking hell! Come on!" He added, pushing open the pub door.
He exhaled, relaxing into the heat of the Three Broomsticks pub. They all walked to a booth, still unison. Regulus groaned in frustration, letting them both walk first.
"Alright," Barty said, sitting down onto the booth chair. "Are you guys not cold?"
Evan shook his head, aggressively. "Just you, mate."
Regulus felt bad for his shuddering friend. He took of his coat, handing it to Barty.
"Thanks, Reggie. You saint." He said, hugging the coat tightly. "So soft." He mumbled smoothly caressing the coat.
"Is anybody else feeling like a — twenty-th wheel?" Evan commented, looking around the room.
Regulus agrees. So many pairs of people were cuddled up in booths. Others were pathetically alone, like Regulus and his friends. So pathetically alone.
Barty looked around the room with Evan. "People are shameless." He commented, snarkily.
The server finally came over to their booth, gracing them with three butter beers.
"Thanks, love." Barty smirked, sliding money across the table for her. She smiled sweetly before accepting the cash.
"I feel totally attacked." Evan said, sipping his beer. "Let's leave."
"We just got our drinks?" Regulus said, chugging his beer.
"After, obviously." He remarked. "I don't want to be here when people start kissing for heat. Because it's 7 degrees out there."
He looked over to a shivering Barty, "Hey, Barty we should make out to keep you warm."
"If you're up for it, sure." He said, with his lip quivering.
Regulus is beginning to regret giving Barty his coat. "I'm going out, I'm cold." He announced before standing up.
"You're cold, so you're going into the freezing cold to not feel cold?" Barty said, sarcastically.
He shrugged in response.
While waking around, he gets pulled into a dark alley way. Which was coincidentally, warm that Regulus wasn't too worried that he was probably getting kidnapped.
"Hey," James said, apologetically. "Sorry for dragging you like this."
Regulus looked at him slowly. "I-it's okay."
"Oh my god, are you okay?"
Regulus felt the need to roll his eyes at him but he doesn't. "I'm f-freezing, James."
James took off his jacket hastily. "Here."
Regulus accepted it gracefully. Honestly, the coat wasn't even warm. "W-what is it? Why did y-you drag me here?"
"Erm, just —just wanted to say you're advice, erm, worked. So thanks." He stumbled around his words nervously.
"That's nice, good for you." He said sadly but more importantly, coldly. "W-why don't you sound happy?"
James examined his face carefully before answering. "I dunno. I don't think I'm into her anymore."
Regulus looked at him, lip quivering. "Why not?" He whispered.
James leaned in forward, slowly. "Maybe I fancy someone else?"
Regulus looked at him with pointed look. "You can't just move on from one girl to another."
"No— no, I just— I haven't fancied her in a —a while." He stuttered.
"Oh, okay. W-who is it this time?
James sucked his teeth stepping back from Regulus. "Damn, Reg. Why do always have to be so oblivious?" He mumbled, thinking Regulus wouldn't hear.
"You," He whispered barely.
Regulus gasped slowly. He felt totally conflicted. Why hadn't he prepared for this? (Maybe because he thought James would never say yes.)
"Oh,"
"Yeah, and its fine if you don't —erm, like me back, it's fine. Fuck, is it hot?" James said, looking around the alleyway.
"It's freezing, James." He said, in a slightly sarcastic tone.
James pouted.
"I like you, too. But I am freezing right now," He said softly, leaning in forward. "Kiss for warmth?"
James grins closing the gap in between them. And just like Regulus' dreams, it was sensational, but unlike his dreams, it's real and he can remember them until the day he dies.
James deepened the kiss, placing two hands on Regulus hips, pulling his forward. Despite Regulus being too cold to move, he slung his hands over James' shoulders.
James slid his hands under Regulus' shirt in an attempt to take it off.
Regulus pushed him off reluctantly, "Stop,"
James pulled away quickly, looking slightly guilty. "What? What's wrong."
"Nothing, I'm freezing and not about to have sex in an alleyway." He said plainly, fixing his shirt. "See you later, James. Six thirty." He added, waking away slowly.
James smiled. "Okay, don't forget about me, love!" He yelled for Regulus.
Regulus smiled widely. He feels determined to steal back his coat from Barty, because in case no one knew, he was fucking freezing.
