Driving Disasters

“Hermione? Are you done packing?” Jean’s voice was heard from the kitchen.

“Almost done Mom!” Hermione replied back. After the bonding and confusing camping trip, Jean informed her daughter to go to a special camp. Hermione refused at first, saying she doesn’t want to leave her mother with her sorry excuse of a father. But Jean managed to convince her when she said that she at least had to since it’s still school days and she doesn’t have one to go to anymore. Hermione winced at the mention of it and agreed at some point. It’s also a good opportunity to at least make more friends. Not that Tonks wasn’t a good friend, she is. Her best friend actually. But, she can be over a little bit of a handful. “Tonks! What are you doing?! You’re filling my bag with so much snacks. I can’t fit all my clothes in it!”

“Sorry ‘Mione. Just a little more!” Tonks was currently trying to fit all her potato chips and cookies (made by Jean) in her friend’s bag since hers was full of them already. “The trip will be quite long and I have to pack a lot!” she said, struggling to zip the bag. “And there!” right as she said that, the zipper snapped and her snacks flew across Hermione’s bed. “No! The most important things in my life!” she cried as she managed to catch two bags of chips.

The brunette shook her head. “I thought that you like lasagna more?”

Tonks gasp and hugged her snacks to her chest. “Shush! Don’t say that in front of them!”

Hermione just rolled her eyes and said, “You’re so dramatic.” And then started to fix her things.

When the two friends was done packing, they ate their breakfast and headed in the car followed by Jean. The trio was making jokes and stories to pass time when suddenly, the clouds started to get dark and the sky started to let down rain with a few thunder along. Hermione peeked through the car window and furrowed her eyebrows. “That’s weird… The forecast said that it will be sunny today.”

“Yeah… Weird.” Tonks replied anxiously as she made eye contact with Jean through the rear-view mirror. Jean eyes were hard to read but Tonks could see that she’s also agitated.

Hermione caught her friend’s tone and turned her head to look at her. “You alright?” her friend just nodded and looked at the window. “Don’t tell me you’re afraid of a little thunder. You used to tell me scary stories when it’s a thunderstorm!” the brunette teased.

“And it gets you all the time!”

“No it doesn’t!”

“Yes it does!”

“Girls please! No messing around in the car!” Jean scolded the two teenagers before they grab each other’s throat.

“”She started it!”” both teens complained.

“And I’m ending it! Honestly girls, you’re 13 years old. Act like it!” Jean glared through the mirror then focused back on the road when the girls pouted and stayed silent.

Hermione crossed her arms, glared at her friend, and looked back at the window. She guessed that they’re almost there because all she can see are trees and bushes. She flinched when a loud thunder then a heavy rain poured down from the sky. She glanced at her mother and saw that she started to get anxious. She was holding the steering wheel a little too tight. She then turned to her friend and the last thing she saw was her friend’s terrified face when an extremely loud and close lightning strucked and then everything went black.

-----

She groaned and she opened her eyes to find herself being carried on her friend’s back. She winced when her friend jumped at what she guess was a big rock. “W-What is…?” She managed out and adjusted her eyes to see a pale white hair and was confused. “What the-?! Tonks?!” She called out.

Tonks turned her head but kept running. Jean not far from them. “Hermione! Are you ok?!” She said between pants.

Jean then glanced at them and much to her relief, her daughter woke up. “Hermione, just hang on!” then she kept running alongside them.

Hermione turned to her mother then back to her friend who now has… white hair?! What the hell is going on?! She swore her friend had pink hair before. She was even more freaked out when she heard a loud roar behind them so she guessed they were being chased. “What the bloody hell is going on?! Why are we running?! What is happening?!”

“Hey! Stop moving around or we’ll fall!” She turned to her friend (who still have pale silver hair) then to her back and caught a glimpse of a-

“A lynx?! Why is there a lynx here?! And how is it so huge?!” It’s true, the fast animal was larger than normal. It was glaring right at her and let out another disturbing loud roar and ran faster to them.

“Enough questions, we’re at the entrance!” Tonks and Jean stopped by what she saw was a sign. Her dyslexia was acting up again when she saw the letters that was written at the entranced shaking and assemble themselves to spell, ‘Welcome to Camp Half-Blood.’

She hopped off her friend’s back and turned to her and her mother. “Where are we?! Please tell me what is happening!” she yelled while pleading. She was freaking out and confuse as hell.

Her mother didn’t answer her but she pulled her close and embraced her daughter tightly. She then pulled away and looked at her daughter’s wide and confused eyes and said, “Hermione, please get to the camp and stay there okay? You and Tonks take care yourselves okay? I love you, more than anything.” Jean then kissed her head and turned to Tonks and nodded with Tonks nodding back sadly.

“W-Why- What are you saying mom?! Please tell me what’s going on!” Hermione pleaded again and held her mother’s hands. She jumped and let go of Jean’s hands when she heard a horrifying growl and saw the large lynx dangerously close to them, ready to pounce.

She yelped when she felt her friend’s hand around her wrist and tried to pull her at the other side of the entrance but she wouldn’t budge. “Hermione come on!”

“But-“

Her eyes widened when she saw the lynx pounced at… her mother. Her heart dropped when she the ground beneath her mother began to glow, burn and then a… portal appeared? The last expression she saw on her mother’s face was full of love before she disappeared through the bright, fiery portal.

“NO!”

The lynx was thrown back by the bright and powerful light but managed to stand back up and growl at the two teenagers. Tonks stood in front of her friend and began to panic. She closed her eyes tightly and braced herself when the large creature jumped to attack them. She tried to grab Hermione to protect to her but her heart stopped when she didn’t feel her friend’s presence behind her and the lynx never touched her. She opened her eyes to find her friend between her and the predator. Hermione was holding the sword their ‘professor’ gave to her. The sharp blade pierced the frozen lynx through its chest. Her breathe hitched when the creature suddenly burst into golden dusts.

Hermione didn’t know what happened or how it happened. First thing she knows is that she was behind her friend, protecting her from the creature then something inside her snapped. Then the last thing she knew that the lynx burst and disappeared into ashes. Then everything went black again.
