Chapter 5
It was quite early in the morning when James woke Sirius up by kissing his exposed neck, they stared at each other hardly believing that they were sharing a bed again after so many years, ‘I’ve missed this’ James whispered, Sirius smiled ‘me too’ and James leaned forward, capturing Sirius’ lips in a kiss, before breaking away again ‘I was thinking, that I would contact Andi and Ted about coming to meet us here and offering them jobs at Hogwarts and reinstating them back in to the Black Family’ Sirius quietly murmured, James smiled at Sirius ‘that’s an excellent idea, but what would they both teach?’ Sirius smiled, liking that James liked his idea ‘well, I was thinking that Andi could become the new Head of Slytherin and potions master and Ted being the new Muggle Studies professor’ James stared wide eyed at Sirius, not believing his good idea, ‘Padfoot, that a brilliant suggestion’ Sirius smiled ‘thanks, so what else are we changing about Hogwarts?’ James sat up leaning against the head board ‘well, I was thinking, you know how Hogwarts has never been able to keep a Defense Against the Darks Arts Professor past a year?’ Sirius nodded knowing that many believed the position to be cursed ‘yeah, what do you suggest we do about it?’ James turned to face his husband ‘how about changing the name, classroom and the way it is taught?’ Sirius thought for a minute ‘we could call it Studies of Defensive Magic?’ James nodded ‘yeah good idea, and I was thinking, how about making Moody the professor for that class?’ Sirius looked at James ‘but what about Remus?’ James smiled ‘he’ll become the History Of Magic professor since Professor Binns always puts his students to sleep’ Sirius smiled ‘true, but we’ll have to ask everyone’ James nodded ‘I know’ Sirius took a moment before ‘James how about a subject called Magical Studies?’ James looked at Sirius confused ‘what’s that?’ Sirius continued ‘well it’s the opposite of Muggle Studies, this subject helps Muggleborns and Half-Bloods become more knowledgeable of the Wizarding World, so they’ll be able to live in the Wizarding World more comfortably in the future and Professor Bucks from Muggle Studies can take that class’ James looked at Sirius in shock ‘that’s brilliant Sirius, and it will also help them to survive in the Wizarding World’ Sirius nodded, James smiled ‘we should also get rid Divination’ Sirius stared at James for a moment shocked ‘why?’ ‘Because you can’t really take that class and you only can if you have seer blood’ Sirius nodded ‘how about we make McGonagall the Headmistress?’ James thought for a moment ‘okay, but what about her Transfiguration class and her being Head of Gryffindor?’ Sirius looked to his husband ‘how about you and me take over that class’ James smiled ‘good idea’ Sirius then thought about another idea ‘and how about you become Head of Gryffindor?’ James looked at Sirius ‘okay, and you should become Deputy Headmaster’ Sirius smiled and nodded and with one last kiss they both got up ready to start the day, but first they had some letters to write.
Harry awoke that morning, rubbing the sleep from his eyes and took a glance around the room, at first he was confused about where he was but then all of yesterday’s events came rushing back to his mind and he smiled brightly, he literally jumped out of bed and slowly made his way down the hallway when he stopped, he heard voices, one of them his dad’s (Sirius) and a female voice he had never heard before, as he turned the corner he took in the sight, his parents on one side of the table while a man and a woman sat on the other each drinking tea ‘it’s so great that you could take the jobs Andi, Ted’ Sirius smiled at his favorite cousin and her husband, before his attention was snatched away at the sight of his son half hiding behind a corner of the room ‘morning Harry’ Sirius greeted warmly, Harry watched as the two strangers turned to stare at him, the woman looked like a female version of Sirius just with lighter hair and the man had light brown hair and hazel eyes ‘Harry this is my cousin Andromeda and her husband Ted Tonks’ Harry smiled shyly as he made his way towards his parents where James held his arm out for Harry to come to him ‘hello Harry’ Andromeda said gently, Harry smiled ‘hello’ James stared at Harry for a minute before saying ‘what would you like for breakfast Harry?’ Harry looked to his father ‘scrambled eggs and toast please’ James smiled then called ‘Dobby!’ Harry looked shocked as the young house elf popped up ‘what can Dobby do for Master James and Master Sirius?’ James smiled at Dobby ‘will you get Harry some breakfast?’ Dobby looked to Harry and bowed down ‘Master Harry, what an honor it is to see you again’ Harry smiled ‘you too Dobby’ James turned his head towards Harry ‘when I came out of my coma Dobby appeared saying how he helped save you and how you freed him and asked to become our house elf and since Sirius got rid of his family house elf, we agreed’ Harry nodded and watched Dobby pop away again ‘you got rid of Kreacher?’ Andromeda asked Sirius in shock Harry listened on in interest, ‘yes, that bloody house elf was crying by the time I came back with some clothing, but I wasn’t having him back in my life’ Sirius then smiled at Harry and took one more sip of his tea before he stood up, ‘I’m going to get dressed as we have a big day ahead of us’ smiling brightly at Harry and James and went off down the hallway, Harry heard a pop and watched as Dobby delivered his breakfast and quietly ate it as he knew today Hogwarts was about to change and by the look on his father’s and the Tonks’ face it was sure to be a big change.
After Harry had finished breakfast, his father sent him to get dressed in to his uniform and the Tonks’ had left at that point and his father also went off to get dressed, as Harry got his school robe on he headed towards the common room ‘don’t you look dapper’ Harry turned towards the portrait and smiled at Helga who was grinning at him while Godric held a proud smile to his face seeing his Grandson in Gryffindor uniform, Harry heard some rustling and watched as his dad as a big black Grim come running in and hiding behind the sofa, followed by his father who was holding a tie ‘Padfoot, you have to wear this tie’ Harry covered his mouth to stop the giggle that was about to escape his mouth ‘but Prongs, it’s purple’ Sirius pouted as he popped back in to his human form pouting, Harry grinned behind his hand ‘yes, I know but you still have to wear it’ Sirius looked resigned and Harry watched as he allowed his father to put it on him, then they both turned to Harry ‘hello son, ready for today?’ James grinned, Harry nodded ‘excited’ Sirius grinned ‘well then let’s go’ and together they left their tower and headed down towards the Great Hall where they saw the last few students quickly rush in to the Hall, Harry sighed in anticipation while his parents grinned in excitement.
Professor McGonagall sat at her chair in the Great Hall and watched the students as they chatted loudly about yesterday’s events, she still couldn’t believe the events of yesterday and the fact that James and Sirius Potter-Black were in this hall yesterday giving facts that had indeed shocked everyone and now she waited in anticipation for them to arrive, to give the new rules of Hogwarts the only clue she got about the changes was them asking her to be Headmistress which she agreed too, and knowing that both of them would be taking over her Transfiguration classes and James would be the new Head of Gryffindor and Sirius being the new Deputy Headmaster but that was it, and she was worried as she remembered them from their school years, she turned to Remus Lupin who sat watching the entrance doors with a small glint in his eyes ‘Remus’ Remus turned to McGonagall ‘yes Minevra?’ she took a deep breath ‘do you know what Potter and Black are planning for the school?’ Remus smiled widely ‘why, yes I do and let me tell you, it’s going to be great for Hogwarts’ Minevra closed her eyes in worry and was about to comment when the noise of the Great Hall fell deathly silent, she looked to where everyone was staring to see James and Sirius standing on either side of Harry with a look of authority about them as you could see the crests of their Lordships pinned to one side of their cloak , as they looked around she saw James nod at Harry and she watched as he made his way towards the Gryffindor table and sat next to Hermione Granger and Neville Longbottom, then she turned her head back towards James and Sirius as they both made their way to the front of the hall.
James and Sirius made it to the front of the hall and turned around to stare at all the students who were looking at them both with wary eyes ‘good morning’ Sirius started off ‘we hope you all had a good night, as you all know me and James told you we were going to make some changes to Hogwarts and we’ve decided what we’re going to change’ Sirius looked around the room ‘first, we’ll discuss the subjects, we’ve added some new subjects as well as taken away and to start off we’ll be discussing the change in staff for some of the subjects’ James nodded towards Sirius ‘the first change of staff that we’ve done is History of Magic, instead of Professor Binns, the class will now be taught by Professor Remus Lupin, we’ve talked to Professor Binns and he has agreed to stay as a ghost at Hogwarts, next is the Potions position as well as the Head of Slytherin and they will be taken over by Professor Andromeda Black nee Tonks’ as Sirius finished this announcement there was an uproar from the Slytherin House as Sirius and James watched the Slytherins start ranting and shouting out, Sirius heard one of them utter the word blood traitor and that made Sirius’ blood boil ‘SILENCE!’ Sirius shouted, the Slytherins quietened down and the rest of the hall looked at Sirius with wariness as everyone had heard rumours of the Black Family's temper ‘I will not have anyone utter insulting words about anyone whether they are Muggleborn, Half-Blood or other and especially to my family, and if we hear any insults towards anyone that person will receive detention and loose house points and that goes for everyone’ James smiled proudly at Sirius and took his place next to him ‘as Sirius was saying that is what is going to happen to potions and Head of Slytherin, now as for Muggle Studies that will be taken over by Professor Ted Tonks and Professor Bucks who was the former professor of that subject will become the professor of a new class called Magical Studies where anyone who was raised in the Muggle world so Muggleborns and Half-Bloods will learn how to become more knowledgeable about the wizarding world and just like them Purebloods and anyone raised in the wizarding world has to take Muggle Studies as to become more knowledgeable about the Muggle world’ James looked around to see everyone muttering excitedly.
James cleared his throat ‘next Defense Against the Darks Arts will change to a brand new subject called Studies of Defensive Magic or SDM for short and this class will be taken over by Professor Mad Eye-Moody, now for a subject we’re getting rid of is Divination, we find that only someone with seer blood can take that class and it doesn’t really help anyone with their future but of course Professor Trelawney is welcome to stay in the castle, now as for Transfiguration that subject will be taken over by me and Sirius as Professor McGonagall will become the new Headmistress and I will be Head of Gryffindor while Sirius becomes Deputy Headmaster’ the chatter became more louder as James announced this change, Harry and the other Gryffindors looked excited to have James Potter-Black as their new head of house as well as having both James and Sirius as the new Transfiguration professors made everyone excited, Sirius grinned at everyone’s excitement ‘next Argus Filch’ the man in question looked up and glared at both James and Sirius ‘we know that when you find students breaking the rules of Hogwarts taking them to their head of house is the correct procedure but threatening the students is not so if we hear you threatening any more students, you will be fired from working at Hogwarts’ everyone cheered at what was said especially the Weasley Twins, Sirius held up his hand ‘and one last thing we will be donating 20 new broomsticks to the school so that everyone has the opportunity to fly at Hogwarts, so these are the changes of Hogwarts and we hope that you’ll follow them and enjoy the rest of your time at Hogwarts’ and when Sirius finished his last sentence a deafening cheer sounded out a everyone stood clapping at James and Sirius including the professors and when James and smiled grinned at each other and turned to look at their son, they saw the proudness in his eyes and that made what they’d done even better.
After the breakfast was finished James stood up and the hall quietened down ‘now for the rest of the day you may do as you please to a certain degree that you’re not breaking the rules and starting fresh tomorrow will be the new classes for Hogwarts, you may leave’ as many students starting getting up and leaving the great hall, Harry stayed behind for while so that he could inform his parents that he would be going with Hermione and Neville ‘I can’t believe the changes that Hogwarts is going through’ Hermione stated as she waited along with Harry ‘I know it’s going to be brilliant’ Harry uttered excitedly ‘I still can’t believe all of what we found out last night, you must be the most shocked Harry’ Neville quietly asked, Harry turned towards Neville ‘I most certainly am, I mean only yesterday I thought I had no family and now I find out I have parents, Uncles and Aunties and cousins’ Hermione and Neville smiled at Harry’s joy, happy to see their friend smiling like that ‘hey Harry’ Harry turned to see Fred and George ‘hey guys’ Fred stepped towards Harry ‘Harry, we’re so sorry about mum, Ron and Ginny we had no idea what they were doing’ Harry waved his hand ‘it’s okay guys’ Fred and George smiled ‘I can’t believe the changes they have made, especially the classes and Quidditch’ Harry was about to reply when ‘PADFOOT, PRONGS GET BACK HERE AND CHANGE MY HAIR BACK TO THE WAY IT WAS BEFORE I HEX YOU TWO IN TO OBLIVIATION!!!!’ Harry, Hermione, Neville, Fred, George and the other students and professors who hadn’t left the great hall all turned to see James and Sirius running down the aisles of the house tables with face-splitting grins while an angry Remus was stomping after them with bright purple and orange hair.
James and Sirius ran to where Harry and his friends were and sat down opposite them ‘we have no idea what you’re talking about Mooney’ Sirius called out ‘yeah Mooney, you’re losing your Marauders touch’ as everyone started laughing Sirius held up and his wand and with a flick Remus’ hair returned to normal, Sirius grinned widely at James before turning to look at his son when he noticed the twins staring at him and James in shock, Harry was smiling at his parents’ amusement when he saw his dad looking at twins who both looked at his parents in shock and awe ‘are you boys okay?’ James asked noticing the twins’ stare ‘you…you guys are Padfoot, Prongs and Professor Lupin is Mooney?’ George asked in wonder James and Sirius looked to each other and Remus before ‘yes we are’ James replied and everyone watched in shock as the twins got down on their knees, the three professors looked nervously at the twins before Fred looked up ‘are you guys the ultimate pranksters of Hogwarts, the legendary Marauders,?’ Sirius grinned ‘yes we are them’ George spoke up again ‘you guys are our heroes and when we plan our pranks we always wonder how you would do the prank’ James smiled at them ‘well if you want any tips just come to one of us but obviously not during lesson time’ Fred and George grinned at their heroes before Fred pull out an old piece of parchment ‘this belongs to you guys’ Sirius took the parchment and stared at it in shock before he turned to James and Remus ‘we’ve finally have the map again’ James grinned before taking out his wand and pointed to the parchment before taking a deep breath and saying along with Sirius and Remus ‘I Solemnly Swear That I Am Up To No Good’
Harry watched in shock at what the twins and his family members were talking about before he looked to the blank piece of parchment and saw words and pictures forming and the words; Messers Mooney, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs are proud to present The Marauders Map, the three Marauders watched everyone’s expressions before opening the map up further to show them the layout of Hogwarts and all of their names gathered in the Great Hall, Harry looked at the map not believing that his parents and uncle made this while they were in school, James smiled ‘pretty good huh?’ Harry looked up from the map ‘its brilliant’ Sirius smiled ‘we thought so too’ and then the 3 of them held up their wands again ‘Mischief Managed’ and they watched as the writing disappeared before Sirius held it out to Harry ‘it’s rightfully yours now, given that you are the son of two Marauders and the nephew of another’ Harry stared in shock at his dad before taking the map from him ‘just remember do not tell anyone you have it’ James reminded his son, Harry nodded before getting up and hugging both his parents again ‘thank you’ they both smiled and hugged him back before Harry let go ‘can I go out to the grounds with Hermione and Neville?’ James smiled ‘of course son, but remember to be back inside for lunch’ Harry nodded and turned and left along with Hermione, Neville, Fred and George, all James, Sirius and Remus could do was watch in pride as Harry and his friends left the hall.
As Harry and his friends made their way outside, Harry could see a lot of people staring at him as he walked past and it reminded him of his first year at Hogwarts ‘just ignore them Harry’ Fred encouraged, Harry nodded as they exited the castle and made their way towards the big tree by the lake before they all took a seat down, Harry stared up at the sky still not believing everything that was happening ‘well this is just déjà vu’ Harry turned to see Hagrid standing just by the side of the tree ‘hello Hagrid’ Hagrid smiled ‘hello Harry, how are you?’ Harry sat up a little bit ‘okay, how about you with all the changes?’ Hagrid smiled at the young wizard ‘it’s all good, you’re parents have already spoken to me and I will still be teaching Care Of Magical Creatures, but your dad Sirius said that I could take my O.W.Ls and I can have my own wand again’ Harry and his friends all grinned at their favorite half-giant ‘that’s brilliant Hagrid’ Hermione exclaimed ‘I know’ Harry smiled still not believing the changes his parents were doing to the school, while the others just thought that James and Sirius Potter-Black were the best parents ever ‘what did you mean this was déjà vu for you?’ George asked curiously ‘well it’s just that the Marauders always came and hung out at this tree on sunny days’ everyone couldn’t believe that this was the exact place Harry’s parents used to hang out, ‘and it was the most popular place where the professors used to find Black and Potter making out when they didn’t go to class’ Hagrid not realizing that he was continuing and Harry and his friends became a little uncomfortable ‘well I best be off’ Harry smiled ‘okay Hagrid, bye’ as Hagrid walked off Harry turned back to his friends who all had awkward looks on their faces.
James and Sirius were strolling round the castle, just remembering the days when they were at Hogwarts ‘it’s good to be back’ Sirius said as they walked down the hallways ‘it sure is, the many pranks we used to pull off’ James smiled, Sirius nodded in agreement before they reached their classroom ‘so what lesson are we starting with tomorrow?’ James asked to Sirius as he conjured up another chair for the desk ‘well its third year tomorrow so we’ll be teaching them to turn one object in to another e.g. a match in to a needle and back’ James nodded and started writing down everything Sirius was saying. A few hours later they had finally planned classes for each year for the next two weeks ‘that took forever’ James moaned as he stretched his arms and fingers, Sirius stood up to stretch his legs ‘definitely’ James smiled at Sirius before standing up and walking towards him, as he walked Sirius backwards until he hit the wall, he cast a spell to close and lock the door before putting up a few charms including the silencing charm, before putting his hands on either side of Sirius’ head officially trapping him and leaned down and kissed Sirius before Sirius grabbed on to James’ robes and starting pulling them off.
As James and Sirius redressed, James looked at the time ‘whoops, a little late for lunch’ Sirius had finished putting his cloak on before taking James’ hand ‘we’re the Lords of Hogwarts we can be as late as we want for all anyone else knows we’ve just been making improvements to the school', James nodded before unlocking the door and they started towards the Great Hall. Harry was enjoying a nice plate of sausages and kept glancing up at the teachers’ table looking for his parents, ‘Harry?’ Harry turned towards Neville ‘yeah Neville’ ‘there’s your father’ (everyone knew to call James; Father and Sirius; Dad when talking to Harry about them) Harry turned towards the staff table to see his father take his seat next to Remus but no sign of his dad, as Harry turned towards his food he heard a small whine, he looked behind him to see Padfoot making a puppy face at him. Harry smiled, petted his head which Padfoot seemed to be enjoying, before feeding him a sausage, after Padfoot gobbled the food down he barked (which caused many students and professors to turn their heads) before he licked Harry right across the cheek, Harry laughed out loud ‘dad, that’s gross’ many students and professors turned and watched as Padfoot turned back in to Sirius who was smiling widely at his son ‘I’m sorry Prongslet, but I just had to do it, you used to love it as a baby’ Harry smiled at his dad, before Sirius ruffled his hair and winked, Harry smiled and watched as his dad made his way up to the staff table, took his seat next to his father and smiled at him, before starting a conversation with Andromeda, Harry turned back to his friends and saw the rest of the Gryffindor staring at him with open mouths ‘what?’ Katie Bell a Quidditch teammate of Harry’s answered ‘you just let him lick you as a dog’ Harry looked at her for a second ‘so, he’s my dad’ and started eating meaning it was the end of the conversation which everyone knew and went back to eating themselves.
After lunch Harry stayed sat down, while others started heading out a few Gryffindors stayed behind, Harry was talking to Oliver Wood; Captain of the Quidditch ‘so if Fred and George can fly around near you, they’ll be able to protect you more from the bludgers’ Harry nodded ‘yeah, but they also have to protect the other fliers’ Oliver nodded ‘I know, but our 1st match is against Slytherin and they’re always trying to knock you out’ George who was listening butted in ‘yeah, but I doubt they would try anything with Harry’s parents at the match’ Harry looked to George and laughed ‘very true’ Oliver smiled as well ‘yeah I guess, but still how can we make sure the Beaters protect you and the other fliers without letting Slytherin outsmart us?’ just as Harry opened his mouth to reply ‘well the Beaters could always circle around the other fliers and then travel the same route but in reverse’ everyone at the table turned to see Sirius Black grinning at them ‘but how do you know that?’ Katie asked as she was also listening to the conversation, Sirius smiled ‘I was Beater for the Gryffindor team from 2nd year to 7th year while James was Chaser from 2nd year to 5th year and then Seeker for 6th and 7th year’ Katie and the other Gryffindor team mates looked shocked at what Sirius said ‘but don’t tell anyone that I just gave you advice, since that could be seen as favouritism’ as Sirius looked around to make sure nobody heard him he quickly turned to stare at the young Gryffindors ‘but aside from that I have just one thing to say…Go Gryffindor’ and with that he turned his back on them, transformed in to Padfoot which still surprised some people before running and exiting the Great Hall but not before giving a really loud bark, everyone stared in shock ‘he does that’ James’ voice sounded out and everyone turned to see the elder Potter-Black staring fondly at the Great Hall doors before turning to his son ‘are you coming back to tower or staying in the dormitories tonight?’ Harry looked to his father ‘I’ll come and see you guys at the tower but I’ll stay at Gryffindor tower for most nights but might stay some other nights at the tower’ James smiled, nodded at Harry before ruffling his hair and heading towards Remus Lupin who was waiting for him at the Great Hall doors and they headed out of the doors together in search of a giant black Grim.
Harry watched as his father and uncle left the Great Hall before turning to his Quidditch teammates ‘well you heard my dad Wood, make sure Fred and George fly around each teammate’ Wood grinned at Harry while the other team members were still shocked to find out that Sirius Black was a Quidditch player for Gryffindor but it was no surprise about James Potter-Black, Katie looked to Harry ‘I’m still finding it hard to believe that a Black was in Gryffindor but to know that he was on the Quidditch team as well’ Harry looked to Katie confused ‘why’s it a shock that my dad got in to Gryffindor?’ Neville looked at Harry with worry in his expression ‘Harry do you know what the Black family is originally known for?’ Harry looked to Neville ‘no’ Fred and George looked at each other uncomfortably for a moment ‘Harry, the Black family is considered one of the darkest families in the Wizarding World’ Harry looked shocked ‘that can’t be right’ Neville once again took over ‘Harry it’s true, my Grandma told me that the biggest scandals back in the past were 1. A Black getting in to Gryffindor, 2. A Black and a Potter being friends, 3. A Black sticking up for werewolf rights, 4. The Black Heir running away from home, 5. A Black and a Potter dating, 6. A Black and a Potter getting married and a Potter taking the Black surname, and 7. A Black becoming an auror and defying the dark side, all of these are to do with your dad’ Harry stared shocked at Neville and the others for a moment before getting up and running out of the Great Hall in search of his father.
