Chapter 2
Hermione was starting to get nervous, it was nearly 1 am and Draco had not come back to her flat yet. He never stayed out this late without at least sending her an owl. She decided she would floo over to his place and see if he was there. She threw on one of his jumpers he left at her place and slid on her slippers before making her way out of the bedroom and into the living room. She grabbed a handful of floo powder and threw it into her fireplace. As she stepped into Draco’s flat a chill seemed to set deep in her bones and at that moment she knew something was seriously wrong.
”Ah young Miss Granger, I was wondering when you would grace me with your presence.” Lucius came into view and Hermione stopped where she was, a panic began in her chest and she knew this couldn’t be good.
”Where’s Draco?”
”You don’t need to worry about Draco anymore, he is no longer any of your concern. He has seen the error in his ways and has agreed to marry one of the most respectable pure-blood woman in Britain. So you should know that if you do anything, and I mean anything at all to get in the way of this, I will see that the ones you love closest to you will be no more.”
”You don’t scare me Mr. Malfoy. You became a joke when your side lost the war, honestly when you lost to a bunch of 5th years in the Ministry of Magic more like it, but you will not come between me and Draco, I love him and he loves me and that is more than I can say for sad excuse of a marriage.”
”You dare insult me mudblood” Lucius spat at her feet and whipped out his want, but Hermione beat him to it and had hers at his throat before he even had the chance.
”You will think twice before threatening me and my family Lucius Malfoy, I know for a fact you’re on thin ice with the ministry and one wrong move and they’ll send you to Azakaban for life. Also the fact that Draco would never forgive you if you did anything to hurt me.”
Lucius chuckled “my dear girl you will see that Draco no longer cares for you, I may have made sure he completely forgot that he ever loved you.”
Hermione took a second and realized what he had just said “you obliviated him” she said at a whisper, lowering her wand and turning back towards the fireplace. “Am I really that much of a disgrace that you would take your sons choice away of who he can love, of who he can spend his life with.”
”Dear girl, you are more than just a disgrace, you are less than and always will be. Now before I go I must make my warning once and very clear. You will not get in Draco’s way, or a quick trip to Australia may be in order” Lucius smirked and Hermione’s face fell.
“How—how do you know about Australia, the only people who know are Harry, Ron and—-“ “yes and Draco. I will say that one was hard to find, as he had it hidden deep in his memories, but it was there none the less. Now you will leave this flat and never come back, you will avoid Draco at all cost and you will not tell him what you know. You will suffer knowing how much he loved you but can’t have him. And that is punishment enough for getting my son to fall for scum like you.”
And before Hermione could say another word he was gone with a crack. She was in such shock she didn’t even know what to do or where to go, she felt like all the air from her lungs was being sucked away and she wasn’t able to think right. Before she knew it she found herself in the middle of Grimmauld Place, where Harry and Ginny lived with their newborn son, James. Harry came running down the stairs wand in hand, thinking someone was trying to break in, not realizing his best friend had just gotten the worst news of his life and was in a ball sobbing in the middle of his living room.
”Hermione blimey you scared me half to death, what is merlins name is wrong, why are you crying”
”— doesn't know me — pregnant and alone — threatened parents — must leave” were some of the things Harry could make out between the muffled words and sobs. He picked her up off the floor and brought her to the couch, rubbing circles on her spine and trying to tame her hair back.
”Mione, I need you to calm down and tell me what’s wrong, I’ve never seen you like this and I’m not quite sure how to fix it, please let me help you.”
After about an hour of Hermione’s sobs, she finally calmed down enough, she took some big breaths before taking a look at Harry.
”I have to leave the country, it’s not safe here anymore for me.”
”What do you mean not safe!? Who threatened you Hermione? Please tell me so I can make this right.”
”I can’t tell you Harry, I really want to but I need to keep all of them safe.”
At this point Harry was becoming even more worried and scared for Hermione, he knew it was serious if it had her this worked up. Hermione was not one to freak out and become a mess, but here she was crying in his arms, unable to stop the tears as the fell down her face. Finally the tears subsided and she took a big breath in before telling Harry what she could.
”Harry know that in time I will tell you everything, but for now I need you to trust me. I have to leave the country, I have to get out of Britain not only for the safety of my parents and me but also……um….well Harry….impregnant” she said that last part at barely above a whisper.
”Excuse my Hermione but it sounded like you just said you were pregnant.” Harry looked at her with confusion and he knew that this became even more serious than he thought before.
“Who?” Harry asked.
”Please that I can not tell you, just know that this is not something I could keep from you, you’re my only family left and I need to get out of here.”
”When are you leaving?”
”Well I have enough money saved for me to not work, but you know I can’t not do that” she joked, trying to lighten the mood. “But seriously I’ll get me a new job as a healer wherever I go, and make a new life for me and my baby, I promise to write to you every so often so you know I’m okay but I can’t tell you where I’m going so please don’t ask, and in the future, you’ll see me again. One day.”
Harry looked at her with his own tears in his eyes, he knew this wasn’t goodbye forever but it sure felt like it. “Just promise me that you’ll tell me if you need anything or if you’re ever in any danger.”
”Same goes for you Harry, and please don’t tell the others till Monday, I need the weekend to pack up my belongings and to clear my thoughts, I’ll leave them each a letter to try to describe the situation the best I can, but like you, they can’t know the truth, I’m not going to even tell them I’m pregnant and please don’t tell them either.”
”Promise Hermione, I will do whatever I can to keep you safe” He reached across the couch and pulled her in to a bone crushing hug.
“Thank you Harry for everything. I really owe you.” And with that Hermione apperated back to her flat and began packing up her belongings into boxes she had left over from when she moved the first time. She spent the weekend packing and on Monday morning she flooed into St. Mungos and went to find her boss to tell him she was leaving. She couldn’t tell him much other than she needed to leave and she was beyond sorry for the inappropriate short notice. He must of known something was wrong as he gave her a side hug and wished her well.
As she stood waiting for her port-key out of Britain she tried her best not to break down and cry, she knew this was going to be hard but she didn’t realize just how hard it would be, not to mention pregnancy hormones were making her cry even more than she ever has in her life. She knew she had about 30 minutes left till her port-key left and could feel her breakfast trying to come back up, stupid morning sickness. As she rushed to the bathroom she ran into the one person she was trying to avoid.
”Granger, really should pay more attention to where you’re going, you’re going to ruin my wedding attire”
”……wedding…..you’re getting married, today?”
”Not sure why you’re interested in my love life Granger but you’ll see it in the Daily Profit tomorrow anyway, but yes, Astoria Greengrass and I are getting married today, sure its not what mother wants but it’s what she’s getting, father seems to be happy. Not sure why I’m telling any of this to you anyway, sorry Granger.”
Hermione was trying her best to keep the tears at bay but she knew they were going to fall, she was even more nauseous than before and was sure that if she didn’t get to the loo now she would throw up in the middle of the hallway.
”Granger you alright? You look a bit pale?”
”Fine Malfoy” she spat at him, running past him to the closest bathroom, not noticing it was the males. As she was throwing up her breakfast in the trash can closest to the door someone else entered.
“You know your in the men’s loo right Granger….oh your sick, um well do you need something.”
Hermione wiped her mouth and performed a mouth cleaning spell, she looked up at him with more hurt in her heart than she could bare. She thought about what she was missing out on with him. He could’ve been the one holding her hair back, he could’ve been there to watch her belly grow from their child. He could’ve been there for the birth of their child but he never will be, because of his horrid father. She knew that Lucius was good with his threats and if she wanted to keep her child safe she knew she had to let him go, even if it may kill herself in the process.
”No Malfoy I’m fine, now leave me alone and go get married, wouldn’t want to keep your perfect pure-blood bride waiting because you were caught up with a filthy little mudblood now do we.” He went to grab her arm but she wrapped it from his grasp. “Seriously Malfoy just go” she said as she looked down at her feet.
”Alright Granger just wanted to see if you were okay, but seeing that you are I’ll just leave you alone in the men’s loo.” He went to leave, he looked back at her before exiting “I’ll see you around Granger.” And with that he stepped out. Hermione felt like her heart had broken all over again, she wasn’t sure it could hurt even more than it already did. She looked down at her watch and realized she only had 8 minutes left until her port-key left. She rushed out the bathroom to her designated spot with 4 minutes to spare and waited.

Hermione couldn’t think about him anymore, she had to start her new life without him.

She wasn’t sure how she would raise a baby by herself but she knew she had to.
one
She knew no matter what her baby would be loved regardless the fact she was doing it by herself.
Hermione felt the usual pull behind her navel and as soon as she landed in the American Ministry, she threw up whatever breakfast was possibly left in her stomach.
