Marlene is melancholy
This November was one of the coldest Marlene had been through. Not only had she left her warmest coat at home and her mother kept forgetting to mail it, but in a figurative sense as well. Dorcas and Abby seemed to be falling for each other harder and harder every day and it was getting more and more sickening everyday. But nevertheless, she persisted to the football field, where her enemy Abby would be.
She felt the chill of the air, and pulled one of the jumpers she had definitely not stolen from Remus tighter around herself while mumbling snide comments about the cold and her stupid warm jacket she had forgotten to bring. Why? Just why?
Once she finally finished changing into her uniform, keep the jumper, she got out onto the field. Why Frank insisted on continuing to practice in the cold she didn't completely know, but she did know no matter what the reason it wouldn't be good enough. In Marlene's mind, nothing could be a good reason to keep a bunch of helpless defenseless kids in the freezing cold for a sport.
Of course, she loved said sport, but that's beside the point.
When (as usual) Sirius had been the one to complain about the freezing temperatures of England's autumns, Frank had reminded him they only had a few months until the "final" playoffs in February against France. Alice had mumbled some stuff about the month being even colder than the month they were in now, and Frank had shut her up with a kiss.
It would've been sweet if it had not been 1 week after the Dabby (ship name created by Mary for Dorcas and Abby) fiasco.
Frank, taking a page out of James' book, kept practices going no matter who complained. Even Kingsley had tried, and Frank still said "hell no." Bellatrix had threatened him, but he just whispered something to her along the lines of "I'm friends with James Potter. Do you like shaving cream?" and she backed off.
This practice was no different, and Marlene considered Lily a saint for being able to put up with the cold and James. Mary said she was here for her, but Marlene knew it was probably because of Sirius. Marlene wished they'd stop being such a good couple, for her own heartbroken state and Remus', who was also in the stands sitting with Lily.
"Alright kids," -Bellatrix glared- "Alright players," Frank said.
"Today is your lucky day. Drumroll please, I give you duhduhduhdudhudhdu" Marlene sighed and waited for him to finish.
"5 minutes of break time!"
The group groaned before getting water. Marlene's legs were tired and burned from walking up the stands, but for once she was glad for the thinness of Remus' sweater as it provided just enough heat for a fresh out of training athlete in November.
"You tired Marls?" Lily asked, smiling as much as she could in her cold state without freezing to death. Marlene nodded, before slumping down onto Lily's shoulder and staring off at "Dabby." Remus continued reading his poem book.
Both girls sighed, before Marlene noticed Lily's eyes drifting towards a certain messy haired boy. She smirked to herself, but didn't mention it, letting the red grow on Lily's cheeks that Marlene now suspected wasn't only from the cold. Marlene looked away from the ginger before she could catch her, and drifted her attention to Remus, who was reading the same paragraph over and over again.
She couldn't make it out well, but she discerned it was about Sirius. It wasn't hard to infer, seeing as his eyes kept going to the other boy "very stealthily."
