Chapter 1
Inheritances are very important to pure bloods. The day their next generation come of age, claiming their heirship, finally becoming a face of the line, under many watchful eyes of course. However, for those very powerful families, the day also entails another important milestone. A milestone that dictates many elements of the heirs life; Everything from their life partner to which laws they will be exempt of and have to follow. Their creature inheritance.
Most who don't experience the creature inheritance are envious of those who do. Creature inheritances bring many things depending on the creature dna running through the individuals veins (which can be guessed by looking though previous creatures in the family if they aren't the first to experience it). They can enhance ones looks, magic and strength, which makes it understandable to why there would be jealousy. There are downsides, as there always are. Some creature inheritances can cause the individual to be seen as non human in the eyes of the law and the people. Not all creatures are seen as equal. There always has to be a hierarchy, I mean its not as if they need equality, right? Take werewolves for example, they are dirty creatures that are detrimental to everyone's safety. They are wild beasts who should be contained.
Those who go through this type of inheritance gain something that may be the most envied perk of a creature inheritance, a mate. The mate of a creature is the one, who in the eyes of magic herself, is the perfect person for the other. A soulmate. The soulmate is a creature too, more often then not. This is assumed to be for reproduction purposes as no matter the genders of both involved, a child can be made. A miraculous display of magic of which is said to be the reason only powerful wizards have the chance of going through a creature inheritance.
The Malfoys are a long line of Veelas. With the lack of other species appearing in the bloodline, many believe the family were one of the first to experience creature inheritances and therefore considered to be pure veela.
With this knowledge, the current Malfoy head and his wife knew exactly what creature their son Draco would be and low and behold as the clock struck 12, marking the beginning of the 5th of June, Draco Lucius Malfoy became a veela.
Draco's POV
It started with a light headache. I was already aware of the stages of the inheritance but i was still unprepared for the extent of the pain I would feel. A burning sensation made its way up my spine, curling around my shoulder blades. Only a few seconds after that had began, the strange feeling of the growth of new appendages formed. It was uncomfortable and so painful I had even forgotten about the burning sensation. Blood from the holes of where said appendages were growing out of, was spilling from my sweat covered, exposed back and onto my clean sheets. That sticky feeling just added to the mountain of pain as I could feel the sheets peeling off of me at every arch of my back in every desperate attempt for relief. Just as I thought it couldn't get worse, the growing pain increased. I could feel every bone and muscle lengthen and expand, I could feel the features of my face change no matter how insignificant. All of my nerve endings were on fire. I couldn't hold in my screams as the pain became to unbearable so I let them grotesquely rip from my throat. The fleeting thought of me waking my parents, passed through my mind as I sobbed in-between the screams. Surely enough I had.
The worried figure of my mother came rushing through the doors as soon as the, what seems like hours, of pain came to a welcomed end. Having expected this, she had brought a wet cloth in an attempt to wipe me clean of blood to provide some relief. As she dabbed my chest, I took the time to catch my breath and become accustomed to the dull ache the inheritance had left me with.
"Your father will be here in a moment with a glass of water, he won't say anything but he was just as worried as me when he heard your screams," mother's kind voice was like a lullaby on my worn out body and mind. The picture of my father coming through the door with a glass of water (which I was later told he had ran to the kitchen for instead of calling a house elf) and my mother sitting beside me, a fond, relief-filled smile gracing her lips, was the last thing I saw before falling back onto the mattress and passing out.

Wings are a nuisance. Father didn't tell me until a week until after my inheritance that I could put them away. They were the only complaint I had about the changes that had occurred. I had grown taller, gained muscle mass and the changes to my face have been met with nothing but positivity. I lost most of the boyish elements which I appreciated as it felt like a symbol of me transitioning into the heir I will become.
But for now I am still learning which means I am here on platform 9 3/4 listening to the obnoxious blare of the trains horn and the incomprehensible chatter of those around me. Saying my goodbyes to my parents, father whispering a quiet good luck and mother telling me of her hopes of meeting my mate, I separated from them and boarded the train. My mothers last word had me wondering about my mate. I hope they do attend Hogwarts, it would make the whole ordeal of finding them so much easier. I intend to make sure they want for nothing, they will be my everything.
"HEY! Watch where you're going!" And there it is. The one voice that destroyed every good thought I was having. Weasley.
"No, you watch it Weasel. Maybe if you would stop thinking about what food you will stuff your face with next, you would see what is in front of you!" His eyes widened at the word weasel.
"Malfoy?!"
"Yes?" I replied, unimpressed at the surprise in his voice.
"I- Uh- What happened to you?!" Ignoring him, I moved my eyes to the 2 standing behind him. I froze, eyes locking with those of emerald green. After a few beats, I shook myself. There is no way Potter is my mate. We are complete opposites-
"HEY WHY ARE YOU IGNORING ME FERRET?!" Sighing, I turned back to him.
"Inheritance Weasley. Now if that's all then I'm going back to looking for my compartment, I am really tired and in need of a nap." With that I walked passed, making sure to bump shoulders with him and try to see if I could catch Harry's scent. It was feint but still there. He is my mate.
I speed up my pace until I find Blaise and Pansy sitting together. Sliding the door open, I drop onto a seat with an exasperated breath, my mind going a mile a minute. Harry didn't look like he'd been through an inheritance, I know for sure his birthday has passed so how can we be mates? Having a non creature mate is very rare but not impossible so why do I have a feeling he should be a creature?
"Draco...DRACO!"
"Uh- What?" Pansy calling my name had broken me out of my thoughts.
"Merlin finally. We thought you'd be out of it for the whole train ride-"
"I think I've found my mate." I said not caring I'd interrupted her.
"So much for a hello," Blaise finally chimed in. "Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for you but I'd like to know you acknowledge our existence." His joking tone told me he hadn't taken to heart. "So, who's the lucky bloke?"
"Potter." With that Pansy doubled over laughing, "what?"
"Potter? Really?" She said, wheezing. Taking a few deep breaths she continued, "seriously though, who is your real mate?"
"Believe me, I almost didn't believe it either until I smelt him."
"I saw him on the platform, he looks the exact same as he did last time we saw him? Isn't your mate supposed to be a creature to?" I turned my attention back to Blaise.
"Well not particularly, he's known for not following the correct way of doing things, he might be one of the rare few who doesn't have an inheritance but still have a mate?" I reasoned, "though I highly doubt it, he must have one it just would make more sense!"
Pansy snorted. "I don't think you can force him to have one through sheer will Draco."
"Pansy, you've seen his magical ability, it makes sense that that much power would come from an inheritance."
"He does have a point there Pansy..."
"It's not like we actually see his magic properly, his grades are horrendous."
"That's true but it makes no sense, anyone could tell his magical core is strong, so why doesn't he use it?" I said this mostly to myself as I let myself get lost in thought.
"As much as I love talking about the Golden Boy, I also would like to sleep. Wake me up when we arrive would you Blaise?" Pansy said already shifting to lay down.
A sarcastic "Of course, your highness" was the last I heard before spacing out pondering why Potter wouldn't use all of his magic.
Harry's POV
"I- Uh- What happened to you?!" I vaguely heard Ron say. Malfoy had changed, in a good way. He looked more mature...he looked good.
"HEY WHY ARE YOU IGNORING ME FERRET?!" It was only then I realised we had been staring at each other. Malfoy's eyes used to have a slight tint of blue but now they were completely steel. I wonder how he changed so drastically over the summer, from the little I've learned about the wizarding world, I have never heard of something that causes such a change.
"Inheritance Weasley. Now if that's all then I'm going back to looking for my compartment, I am really tired and in need of a nap." An inheritance? Wasn't that where you get money when a relative dies or something? I shouldn't be surprised it has another meaning here.
I held back a hiss as Malfoy bumped into bruised shoulder, I really need to remember to ask Madam Pomfrey for some bruise salve when we got to the castle. Looking towards Malfoy it looked as if he was smelling the air for something. Did I smell bad? Blood began to rush up to my cheeks in embarrassment.
"You should wash that shirt when we get there, he probably rubbed his Death Eater germs all over it." Turning back towards Ron I saw him drilling holes into Malfoy's back, a deep scowl on his face.
"What's wrong with you Harry?" Hermione questioned once she saw how red my face was. I opened my mouth to reply before Ron cut in.
"He's probably mad at that git for shoving him!" Ron really was too loud sometimes. Hermione's questioning eyes came back to me looking for confirmation.
"Uh yeah that's why, shall we get into the compartment now? Didn't you say you got a new book 'Mionie?" Ron grunted as Hermione completely forgot about what had just happened and started on a rant about how interesting the 'medical advancements made in the Goblin War' were. Luckily my blush had cooled down as we sat down but my thoughts about Draco and his 'inheritance' had not.
