Chapter six
Kate’s POV
Kate heard the door of the apartment and knew Yelena had left. She knew she’d run…but it still hurt. Yelena clearly felt something for her and wanted to be with her so why the hell wouldn’t she let herself be happy? Kate curled in her bed with Lucky next to her.
“Should I do something bud?” Kate said and he whined. “Don’t worry, I’m ok…or I will be once our Russian friend gets her head out of her ass”
“Kate?” Kate moved too fast and fell to the floor. She looked up at Yelena and saw her there with a scowl on her face. “Clint is here”. She didn’t leave…what?
“Katie, come down” Kate heard Clint’s voice. She got up and walked past Yelena who stood there without looking at her. She moved down and saw Clint with Laura there.
“Hi sweety” Laura said and Kate offered her a smile. “We wanted to check on you”
“I’m ok…” Laura touched her face. “I’ve been worse” She must have said something really bad because she heard Yelena’s intake of breath.
“Katie…this is…this is getting out of hand…we need to act asap” Clint said.
“I agree,” Yelena said in a flat tone. “We should do something about it so I can go back to Russia” Kate frowned then.
“You are going back?” Kate asked but Yelena wouldn’t look at her. “Yelena?”
“You should stay away from him, and Clint and I can end him,” Yelena said.
“Wait…what’s going on here?” Clint asked, confused.
“Long story short, we kissed and now she is running away to another country so she doesn’t have to face me” Kate said and shrugged.
“That’s not…ugh…nadoyedlivyy yastreb (annoying hawk)” Yelena growled. “I need to go back to Russia with my mama to check on the widow and I cannot do that until I know you are safe” Yelena said. “So stop saying shit and listen” Yelena took a deep breath and Kate tried her best not to answer her. “Fisk is expecting you but we are not giving him the chance to come near you so…we take you to prison with your mom”
“What?”
“Wait what?” Clint and Kate said.
“She is going to be safe there and he will not expect it…and then old birdie here and me finish him” Yelena finished with a shrug.
“I actually think it’s a good plan” Laura said and everyone looked at her. “What? It is”
“Thanks?” Yelena said.
“Laura…I love you and your whole family…I’m not having Clint to save my ass, again” Kate said. “And I don’t want you,” Kate pointed to Yelena. “Risking your life for me”
“I can do whatever I want with my life, Kate Bishop” Yelena said. “You should know already not to tell me what to do” And with that Yelena went to the window and left with her typical style.
“She can’t go alone, kid…” Clint said. “I can help her…just give me your bow and I’ll go with her”
“No, I will go. This is my mess and I will fix it” Kate said. “I’m gonna change…but…I would like it if you could go check on my mom…Yelena said she is fine..but..” Laura hugged her and Clint nodded. “Also..could you take him?” She said looking at Lucky and Laura nodded.
“Ok Hawkeye, you can do this” He said and Kate felt a rush of happiness at her hero's words. He believed in her and she was going to prove he was right.
She changed as fast as she could and took some of her trick arrows (courtesy of Clint) with her. She knew where to find him and she knew Yelena would be there already. She ran as fast as she could until she saw the building a few blocks ahead. This would be the end, once she’d take Fisk to the authorities, everything would end. The pain, the fear and probably the end of her relationship with Yelena.
She knew Yelena would enter the building from one of the building’s across from it so she took one of her trick arrows and let it fly to the top of the building. The hook connected with something at the top and Kate used the bow to slide herlsef up the building. She tried her best not to look down as Clint and Yelena had told her and after a few seconds she was climbing at the top. She looked down then and gulped. The building could have 10 floors easily. “That worked out well”. There was a helicopter there, probably Fisk’s. She walked to the door of the building and opened it carefully. She could hear gunfire and screams. “Yep, Yelena is here”.
“And so am I” Before she could dodge, someone punched her in the face. “Hello, Hawkeye”
“Fuck, that hurt” Kate said and looked at the man in front of her. “Hello to you too, man who I don’t know” She spat out blood.
“Name’s Danton” He said and Kate could see he was not one of the usual idiots from the tracksuits. “I work for the big man and I really want to make a good impression on him”
“Then let me tell you you are going to need to change your clothes…” She shrugged. “You look too fancy to work for him”
“You talk too much” He said and launched himself at her but in a swift motion Kate moved out of the way and hit him with her bow in the back.
“I’ve been told yeah” Kate grinned and got an arrow ready. “Maybe you should tell me where he is”
“Maybe you should just die” He said and took out his gun to shoot her while Kate let the arrow fly. When it hit the floor next to him he laughed “You can’t even hit me at this range?” Kate grinned.
“Oh trust me, I don’t need to” Something gooey and purple came out of the arrow and wrapped around him.
“What the hell is this?” He tried to move but the more he moved the more it wrapped around him.
“That should last a few hours so if I were you I’d try to relax” Kate smiled and moved to the door.
“You’ll pay for this” He grunted and Kate didn’t bother to stay around. She went inside the building and walked to the floor below. It seemed no one was there so she kept going until she heard her.
“You can kill me but you are coming with me” Kate ran to Yelena’s voice and saw her trying to fight the hold Fisk had on her neck. It looked like Yelena had kicked his butt for a while. His good eye was turning purple and his suit was cut in different places.Yelena wasn’t touching the floor and Kate took one of her arrows. She knew Fisk wouldn’t let her go even if she stabbed him…so she got ready, closed her eyes and heard him screaming. She looked again and saw Yelena on the floor trying to get air back into her lungs while Fisk kept screaming with Kate’s arrow inside his good eye. How on earth is he still alive? Kate didn’t understand it…anyone with that kind of injury would have died on the spot. She looked more closely and then saw that only the tip of the arrow had gone inside the eye…he had stopped it. “Kate…” Yelena said out of breath. “Get out of here”
“Fucking brat” Fisk said and kicked Yelena on the ribs sending her flying to the wall. Kate took another arrow and it hit him on the shoulder but this time he didn’t flinch. “You think you are going to do much damage with your sticks?” He took both arrows off his body and Kate was sure he had lost his vision where the arrow was.
Kate moved as fast as she could and reached Yelena’s side. “Hey…are you ok?” Kate looked at her and she could see bruises on her face, her lip was completely busted and her breathing was a bit shallow.
“Peachy, get the hell out of here Kate” Yelena insisted. “He is going to kill you”
“No, he almost killed you,” Kate said and looked at Fisk. He was indeed having troubles with his eye. She took this chance to let one of her electric arrows fly and hit him.
“Kate…this cannot end the way that you want…” Yelena said and got up wincing. “He has to die”
“And here I thought everything was a facade,” Fisk said, laughing and getting the last arrow out of his body. “You two are really a thing…well I’m going to enjoy ending you two” He moved faster than Kate thought possible and before he could hit any of them, Kate grabbed Yelena and moved to the side. She took one of her explosive arrows and shot it at him. It was just like that time at the toy store…she got him right and it seemed this time he was struggling a bit more to breathe.
“I won’t let you do anything else to her” Kate said angrily. “Even if I have to kill you myself”
Fisk looked at them both…Kate with another arrow ready and Yelena with her gun pointing at his head. Kate saw him making a decision on the spot and he turned around and left, but not before taking a grenade out of his pocket and throwing it at them. Yelena was faster than Kate this time and tackled her over one of the doors there. The grenade exploded and Kate couldn’t hear anything except a loud ring. Is this how Clint feels? Kate thought. Everything around them was destroyed.
She looked at Yelena and saw her mouth moving but couldn’t hear anything but a long beep. Yelena grabbed her face and looked at her closer, she was checking for injuries. “I’M OK” Yelena flinched and Kate realised she had screamed. “SORRY” At that Yelena chuckled a bit. She looked around and saw fire around them.
“Kate! we need to go” It was very quiet but at least she got to hear Yelena. She nodded and followed her to the stairs. Yelena was about to drag her downstairs but Kate stopped her.
“He is upstairs” Kate said and Yelena frowned.
“We are not going after him, I’m not gonna let him do anything else to you” Yelena said and got closer to Kate.
“I’m going” Kate said and Yelena frowned. “I don’t care if you think I can’t do this but I am” Kate turned to walk upstairs but Yelena grabbed her arm and turned her around.
“You are so annoying and stupid” And then just like that Yelena kissed her. It wasn’t the best kiss. It was bloody and sweaty but Kate couldn’t move. “I know you can do this, you are incredible but I cannot lose you Kate”
“Yelena…” Kate didn’t know what to say.
“I know, I know…this is not the right moment but listen to me, if you want to go after him…ok, but we go together” Yelena said and Kate nodded. “Let’s go”
They moved as fast as they could and when they reached the top they saw him on the helicopter with the guy who fought Kate before. “It’s over, Bishop” He screamed. “I’ll send regards to your mother”
Yelena didn’t wait for a response and started shooting but the guy closed the door and didn’t reach the target. “Blyat’” Kate checked her quiver but there were no more explosive arrows. “Do you have anything?” And then she reached the wire one.
“I have one…but not sure if it’s gonna work” Kate said. She didn’t want to get Yelena into more danger.
“Well…it is now or never Kate Bishop” The helicopter took off and Kate nodded and without much thought she shot the arrow. It landed in the middle of the helicopter blades and the cable moved around them and stuck the blades. The helicopter lost control and Kate launched herself on top of Yelena. It moved past them and they both looked up. He was about to jump from it when a missile hit the helicopter and exploded. It went down to the street like a ball of fire and crashed there. Kate and Yelena looked around and saw Sonya in the building next to them with a bazooka and a grin on her face. Sonya made a move to let them know she’ll see them downstairs.
“That was…wow…” Kate said, still looking at Sonya and Yelena hit her with her elbow. “Ouch, what was that for?”
“Really Kate Bishop? I declare my love for you and you go and say wow to Sonya?” Yelena said with a frown that Kate knew it was fake. “It is not cool, Bishop”
“I didn’t hear any confession of love you know?” Kate teased. “But trust me, I only have eyes for one woman” Kate moved in front of Yelena and saw her smiling.
“Is that so?” Yelena said and moved her hands with a bit of a wince behind Kate’s neck.
“Yeah, I’m all yours Belova” Kate said and gently kissed her. “But, we can talk about this later at my place…right now I think we should… you know…go and check if the bastard survived?”
“So professional, and remember…it’s Bishop now” Yelena said and Kate grinned.“Come on” Kate helped her out and they both went down the building with Yelena’s zipline.
“Hello lovebirds” Sonya said, getting closer to them. “Sorry I took him out for you but…a little birdie said she didn’t want Yelena’s hands getting more blood so…” Kate smiled at Sonya and looked at Yelena.
“Thanks Sonya, we couldn’t let him escape,” Yelena said. “Did you check?” Sonya nodded.
“Some of the girls came with me and checked the body. You are completely free Kate Bishop” Sonya said. “Now..Yelena you should take a look at those before we go back to Russia”Sonya said pointing to Yelena’s injuries.
“Oh…that’s right…you are leaving…” Kate said and frowned. She didn’t want Yelena to go..not now…not after…well…whatever that was.
“Actually Sonya…we’ll meet you guys there if you don’t mind…” Yelena said and grabbed Kate’s hand in hers. “We have some things to attend here” Sonya grinned and bit her lip.
“Sure thing boss” Sonya said and looked at Kate. “Now it’s your turn to take care of our girl, little hawk” And with that Sonya left them there.
“Did you say we?” Kate asked, a bit confused.
“Yeah…can we go home and talk?” Yelena said and Kate nodded.
“Yeah, of course, come on”
Kate opened the door and let Yelena in first. “Hey…I’m gonna call Clint to let him know everything it’s alright” Yelena nodded and went to the bathroom upstairs. “Hey Clint…yeah we are mostly ok…some bruises here and there but it’s done…we are free of that monster…no we didn’t…it was one of the widows…see you tomorrow”
Kate sat down on the couch and sighed. She couldn’t believe it was finally over…she knew there would be more people trying to kill her…but the big guy was out of the question.
“Kate?” Yelena called from upstairs. “Can you come?” Kate followed Yelena’s voice to the bathroom and knocked. “Come in” She did and she almost died there. Yelena was inside the bath with water covering mostly everything and she turned around and covered her eyes.
“Jezz..sorry Yelena…I thought you said come in” Kate said and felt all the blood in her face. She heard Yelena chuckling.
“мой маленький ястреб It 's ok…I did say to come in” Yelena said. “I actually want you to take a bath with me if that’s ok with you” Everything in Kate’s mind stopped working. “Kate..turn around please?” And Kate did. “It’s just a bath, promise…” Yelena smiled. “I’m too sore anyway to do anything I would love to do” Kate gulped. What the hell is going on? Did I die? “Come on, I will not look while you take off your clothes and get inside” And she did, she turned around and covered her eyes. Kate smiled at the gesture and did as she was told. Once naked she got inside the bath and sank in front of Yelena.
“You can look now” Kate said and Yelena opened her eyes and grinned at her. “Yelena…did I die?” Yelena laughed and grabbed Kate’s hand underwater.
“You are pretty much alive, see?” Yelena brought Kate’s hand to her mouth and kissed it. “You felt that, right?” Kate nodded. “Alive”
“I just…maybe I’m going to say the wrong thing here but…what change? A few hours ago you said we couldn’t…” Yelena interrupted her.
“I know what I said…” She was frowning. Of course Kate would mess this up for them already. “But…the thought of not being near you…I cannot stand it” Kate knew Yelena had more to say so she waited. “I still think that I am not good for you…but at the same time I cannot deal with the thought of you with anyone else” Kate smiled then. “The thought of leaving you here and going back to Russia….I just couldn’t…and after Fisk…I want to be with you Kate Bishop” Yelena smiled. “You want us…and I want us..so…why fight it?” Yelena looked down and Kate moved closer to her and lifted her chin. “If Natasha could see me now…she’d laughed”
“If Natasha is seeing you now…because I know she is looking out for you from where she is…I just hope not right this moment cause…you know..naked?” Yelena chuckled. “She’d see how amazing her sister is and she’d be happy to see you be free and open to love” Kate touched Yelena’s face. “Because there’s no one out there as amazing as you are” And with that Yelena launched herself to Kate and kissed her.
“I’m so stupidly in love with you Kate Bishop…” Yelena whispered against Kate’s lips.
“YA tozhe tebya lyublyu (I love you too), Yelena Bishop” Kate said in a really bad accent and Yelena looked shocked at her. “Don’t ask me to say more…I just know the important sentences”
“So…will you come with me to Russia?” Yelena asked and Kate didn’t need to think much about it and nodded. “Good..because I promised my mama that we’ll have another wedding there with them”
“You said WHAT?” Kate said, shocked. “Your mom? what?”
“Yeah..we can take the Barton’s there and we could even try and get a permit for your mom” Yelena kept going and Kate’s mind was going too fast.
“Yelena…what?...Are you asking me to marry you?” Kate asked and Yelena frowned.
“We are married, Kate” Yelena said.
“No…we are fake married…that’s what you said?” Yelena bit her lip.
“So…maybe the document wasn’t as fake as you thought…but…I mean…if it’s really that bad being married to me then we can have a divorce and start over…” Yelena said and Kate couldn’t help but laugh. Everything was ridiculous but she had Yelena and that’s all she ever wanted.
“Being married to you is the best thing that’s ever happened to me” Kate said and kissed her. “But, if we are doing this in Russia…then I guess we can do the whole thing so…Yelena Bishop…would you do me the honor of keep being my wife?”
“Yes detka, I do not want anything else” And she kissed her because now she could do it whenever she wanted.
