Vertically challenged boy travels horizontally to Diagon Alley

Izuku wasn’t quite sure what to expect from his eleventh birthday, but a trip in a magical alley was really down the list.

Well at least the others were having fun.

‘Oh look’ said first ‘they really use brooms’

‘They really use eyes as parts of their potions?’ that was Toshinori

‘Hey, they use teeth too, perfect for a big smile don’t you think?’ Nana said, teasing a (probably) green Toshinori.

‘guys please keep calm, I’m trying to follow what they are saying.’

Izuku was sure his day couldn’t get any weirder. His entire week had been weird in fact. It started with two letters. He woke up one day, feeling tired after only a few hours of sleep (you cannot put a bunch of vigilantes in one body in a world without laws about superheroes and expect them to play nice). The green spider: Deku had been seen no less than 5 times that night.

‘The green spider’ had first been a joke by Yoichi. He read one of this world comic books and had fallen in love with this hero. It took a few years to convince the others to go with it, but since they couldn’t control the quirk enough at six, it was alright (of course the only limit had been control, if Izuku had been given a choice, he would have started his career at 4 years old like any sensible person).

It had taken him a while to deal with the loss of.. pretty much everything. He remembered the words used to “ban” him in there. They had been weird, but he understood enough.

He went to get the mail, got his out of the way, Nana’s too and proceeded to get his breakfast. It took him a few minutes to realize that no past user was talking.

‘Why is no one talking?’

No response, he felt only a nudge in the direction of the two letters.

‘Well yes, it’s a letter to me and one to na… oh’

‘And it’s to ‘Izuku Midoriya’, not Aenneas Greenwaters’ said En.

‘Oh..’

‘Read it please.’ said Nana.

After a couple of days, he knew that his reply had been read. It was made quite obvious by the appearance of a greasy man in black robes on the orphanage’s porch.

He was truly a dreadful actor, if his barely concealed sneer was anything to go by. Izuku’s every action seemed to annoy him, and his eyes seemed to be waiting for someone. After a long silence, he decided to finally talk.

“I’m looking for Izuku Midoriya and Nana Shimura, boy. Could you go fetch them?” he asked.

‘They call it creeping, I say loving, it’s the only way for meeee..’ Yoichi started singing

‘please shut up and explain later first’ thought Izuku before saying “I am Izuku Midoriya if we follow your letters, and Nana Shimura too. In fact sir, Nana is not supposed to exist and Izuku Midoriya is not my legal name, even if I answer to it. Who are you sir?”

Now Snape wasn’t one to accept foolishness, especially coming from ten year olds. A few years before, he would have ignored this comment and asked for the head of the orphanage without paying anymore attention to the prankster. That was before this year however. They had found that a few letters had been sent to students under japanese names, and while every single one of the aforementioned would-be-students had accepted these names as their own, all of them were not known under those names. Nobody really knew precisely why they were listed like this, nor why all of them were one of the “cursed”. It was a fact they had to accept, and Snape had expected to find a weird occurrence. But two people at once was fairly new. Whatever, he still had to follow the protocol.

“Could you call the head of your establishment?”

“Of course”

‘I name your mother and your father and the first that you keep…’

Wizard. He was a wizard in this world.

‘At least you know what to expect. Interesting can very well be “a magical world”’

‘If you could please shut up, I’m still trying to deal with the fact that in theory Nana should be a witch despite having never existed in this world.’

‘He made a gift for his grandma? How cut-’

‘Continue and I WILL find a way to kill you beyond death’

Severus Snape, his soon-to-be Potions Professor, was definitely not a nice man. Izuku just hoped that he would not be in this teacher’s naughty list.

‘naughty list? How old are you?’ asked Banjo

‘10’ replied Izuku

‘Fair’

When he entered the Alley, he expected a few things. A world so medieval that it looked like a parody of itself was not one of them. The houses were perfect replicas of those little towns that often ended up as touristic spots. The stores were animated in probably every way imaginable. There were enough colours to shame a gay pride (oh, how he missed his classmates) and Izuku would not have been surprised if they used diamonds and gold as the pavement. It was as majestic as it was a sore sight.

The tailor had been quick, giving him second hand robes that spoke of a lack of self-preservation but if anything this seemed like a recurring theme with magical people. His robes could have been chewed by a dragon for all he knew.

Getting his books was a subject he would like to ignore and forget, along with the call to murder the previous owners made by the fourth. They were so badly burnt that half the pages were in that in-between state, right before turning to ash. The only one that he had to get brand new was the DADA one (he didn’t know what DADA meant, only that this was an obvious sore subject for his guide).

He did get a pet (a little owl that made him think of Aizawa, his old teacher) and went on to get his wand (every other miscellaneous items were lost in his memory, and none of it had been outrageously worn out like the rest, which probably could be explained by the fact that Severus Snape seemed to love potions with a passion, and harbour the usual hate of the passionate man against those that didn’t even try to understand their subject.

He saw the wand store. It looked odd, even by the Alley’s standards. Dark wood and sometimes black paint almost everywhere, a dubious architectural style, a feeling of quiet madness. It encapsulated the feelings he had about some parts of this (his) world.

Ochaco had been in a rush. Finding school supplies, buying robes, everything had been quite hectic. Ron had complained a few times, until the Weasley matriarch decided to put him in the women’s side of Mrs. Malkins’s store to make him understand why his sister couldn’t get clothes belonging to their older brothers.

Ten years since ‘this’ day. Ten years since she had seemingly lost everything. If she hadn’t met the Lovegoods and their eldest daughter, she might have believed she was alone. Now however, she was merely excited to find out who was there with them.

The Lovegoods. An interesting family. The two daughters were both quite mad, each in their own way. The oldest one had still changed a lot since their change of world. The death of Pandora seemed to paradoxically help in her change, growing more protective of her little sister. The easy acceptance of the family was also a factor in it. Ochaco and her were probably close to being friends.

Now, Ron would probably have inherited his older brother's wand, had the wand not been “mysteriously” broken one night (and if Ochaco had a tad too wide grin for a week, nobody noticed).

Ollivanders was dead ahead. Now she only had to walk through the door. Easy. She took a breath and opened the door.
