Chapter 18
Harry knew logically that trying to explain what was going on to Sirius was going to be hard but he was not prepared for Sirius to respond with the words, “Dammit now I owe James 10 Galleons. That bloody idiot.”
Upon seeing the confused look on Harry’s face, he explained, “Back in 6th year James was certain that there must be multiple universes after Lily and Remus showed us back to the future, and obviously you can’t travel that far back in time without more serious repercussions so he came to the conclusion that there obviously must be alternative universes for that to be accurate. When I said that was dumb, he bet me 10 Galleons that he was right, it seemed like an easy way to show him up. Ironically, I was wrong.”
Harry unsure of how he should respond to that information simply chuckled and gave Sirius a hug trying to be as gentle as possible so that he didn’t hurt him anymore than he already was. Mumbling into his shoulder, “I’m so glad to have you back, I thought you were dead, and it would have been all my fault…”
“Hey, pup no I don’t care if I was dead in no way would that have been your fault. Just like I've told you about Cedric just because something happens to someone and you happen to be there and make it out it does not make it your fault. Until you are the one that fired that curse it is never your fault do you understand.” Sirius said in a tone that while he didn’t use it often when he did he made sure everyone was listening.
Meanwhile in the hallway….
Once everyone got settled in their chairs, even if Remus still looked a little shell shocked and James could not stop bouncing his leg, Lily turned to Ron and Hermione asking, “Could you tell us about yourselves all we really know is your names and I would really like to know my sons family.”
Ron spluttered a bit quite unsure of how to best respond to this and not wanting to say anything that Harry would not want them to know yet. Hermione on the other hand was used to having various adults ask her about herself with all the conferences she went to with her parents as a child.
“Hermione Granger, as you already know, I’m muggle-born, both of my parents are dentists, I honestly gave them quite the fright with accidental magic after I read Matilda for the first time….” At that Lily and Remus gave a hearty laugh while Ron and James shared a slightly confused look.
“Mione, what the heck is Matilda you never told us that story…” Ron said through his teeth trying to hide his confusion.
Seeing the look on James’ face Remus beat Hermione to the explanation, “it’s a muggle book about a young girl that can make things happen with her mind, like floating books or changing the radio station. If Hermione here tried to do that as well imagine her parent’s surprise when it worked.”
“They checked the house for strings for weeks after that incident. Honestly, I don’t really see how they were so surprised when I turned out to be a witch.” Hermione chuckled. “What about you Ron? What was your first sign of magic? I've never thought to ask.”
Rons ears began to turn slightly pink at this saying, “Well its certainly not as interesting as yours, the twins decided to try to play a prank on me when I was about five by turning my skin blue, it scared me so bad that my magic turned them blue as well and we were stuck that way for close to a month. It was terrible I thought that I was going to be blue forever…”
At that James lost his composure and finally was completely relaxed laughing, “Moony do you remember that prank we did in second year on the Slytherins, that would have been great if we could have made it last for a month!!!”
At the creak of the hospital room door opening all of the tension returned to everyone all at once. Harry popped his head out of the door and announced, “Okay you guys can all come back in now we are all good.”
