Harry set his phone down and rolled over on his bed. He didn’t know exactly how to explain it, but he felt like he was always meant to know Draco… as stupid as that sounded. He’d never felt for anyone the way he feels for Draco, and he has had the biggest crush on him since he saw him in math class sophomore year. From the moment he saw Draco he knew that he’d like him, and since getting to know him so well, it’s only grown. There was a knock on his door.

“Yeah?”

“It’s me.” Remus’ voice said. “Can I come in?”

“Yes.” Remus walked in and closed the door behind him, sitting down on Harry’s bed. Harry sat up and looked at Remus expectantly. “What?”

“Just… you… you were safe, right?” Harry looked at him confusedly.

“Safe? What are you talking about?”

“Harry… c’mon. Sirius and I were cool and we didn’t tell your mom and dad but we’re not dumb. We were 17 once…” Harry finally realized what he meant and his eyes practically bulged out of his head.

“Remus! Seriously we didn’t do anything! We ate your ice cream and then I dropped him off. That was it!” Remus raised his eyebrows with disbelief. “I’m telling the truth! I… I’m not even… I don’t know… I’m a… virgin.” He said, looking down awkwardly.

“Oh!” Remus said, clearly surprised. “You are?”

“Yes. I… I promise, we really just ate some of your ice cream, petted Snuffles and then left.” Harry was so embarrassed to have confessed that to Remus, but he didn’t want them to think that he and Draco had sex in their bed or something.

“Well, Ok then. I… do you want to talk about it?” Remus asked him.

“What about it?”

“About Draco. You really seem to like him.” Harry smiled and looked away a bit. Remus laughed and nudged him. “Huh? C’mon. Tell Uncle Moony, yeah?” Harry groaned. He used to call Remus ‘Moony’ when he was younger because he’d always read him the bedtime story, “Goodnight Moon”.

“I just… he’s… yeah. I really do like him. A lot. And… I don’t know how I feel about… you know, other stuff besides kissing because isn’t it like… I dunno. I think you should like at least be in a relationship with someone for your first time…” Remus looked thoughtful for a moment and then nodded.

“That definitely makes it a lot less scary and more special. But, sex is a big step and you should only do it when you’re both ready and you’ve talked about it.”

“I mean… he’s not even… we’re not even… I don’t even know if he likes me.” Remus chuckled and knitted his eyebrows together.

“Didn’t you say he kissed you?”

“Yeah…”

“Well, I know that I’m a 38 year old man and haven’t had to date anyone in about 23 years… but I’m pretty sure that means he likes you.” Harry rolled his eyes and laid back onto his bed.

“You don’t get it.” He said, pulling his pillow up over his face.

“Then explain it to me, kid.” Remus said, lifting the pillow up.

“I’m not… Ok. So… Ok, I know he’s attracted to me… Like he stares at me sometimes and he kissed me back and kept kissing me back… but being attracted to someone and having a crush are two different things. I have a crazy, big, embarrassing crush on him… and I have for like two years since I first saw him… and now that I know him better… and know how he kisses? I am doomed. Because I don’t know how he feels about me.” Harry took a deep breath and grabbed the pillow again, cuddling it like a teddy bear.

“Well, you could always ask him. He’s the one person who knows exactly how he feels about you.” Harry groaned again and sat up, looking at Remus deadpanned.

“I can’t ask him! Then he’ll know that I like him!” Remus looked confused once more.

“But… don’t you want him to know?”

“No! Only if I know that he likes me!”

“This is giving me a headache. Harry, look. You’re the coolest kid ever, Ok? I’m not just saying that cause I love you, you are. You play football, you know every word to Hamilton, you’re nice and kind and very handsome. I think Draco would be very lucky to be your boyfriend.” Harry felt himself blushing and looked away embarrassedly.

“You have to say those things, you love me.” He said finally. Remus chuckled.

“Not true. I tell your dad what an idiot he is every single day, and I love him too.” Harry laughed and then shrugged.

“I dunno… I’m gonna hang out with him tomorrow. I’ll see.”

“Tomorrow?”

“Yes?”

“As in Sunday?”

“Yes? Why?”

“Harry, Sirius’ birthday brunch? We were gonna make a day of it.” Harry facepalmed. Shit.

“Shit… I already told Draco we’d hang out…”

“Why don’t you invite him along then?”

“What? For a family brunch?” Harry said, blushing again. “He would feel weird.”

“It’s not just family, friends too! Besides, Draco is technically family… You won’t believe this but Draco is Sirius’ cousin.” Harry laughed and nodded.

“Yeah, Draco and I talked about that tonight actually. Maybe we could see if his mom is free? Would Sirius like to see her?”

“I know that he’d love to see her! Invite them both. Plus, the Weasley’s are coming, which means Ron and probably Hermione as well.”

“That depends on how much they both drank tonight.” Remus chuckled. “But… Ok. I’ll ask him.”

“Try not to put too much pressure on everything, yeah? Just let what happens, happen.” Remus kissed the top of his head and left his room. Harry pulled out his phone to text Draco.

Draco👑

Hey you. I know I already said goodnight. But I am dumb and I forgot that I have Sirius’ birthday brunch tomorrow. We usually make a day of it and it’s not just family, friends too, but they were wondering if you and your mom wanted to come. Do you still want to hangout? You’re both more than welcome to come!
we don’t want to intrude
It wouldn’t be intruding. I want you there and I know Sirius would like to see your mom. Plus… I really want to see you.
let me ask my mom and see what she thinks… but i will come for sure.
Ok <3
she is in! she finally doesn’t have to work. plus with all the time i’ve been spending with you all, she wanted to meet your family anyways.
Awesome. It’s a date. See you tomorrow around 11:30. 6541 Hillstop Avenue! Night, Draco.😌
goodnight 🥰

The next morning Harry woke up to his 9:00 am alarm. He was very thankful that he was able to sleep in on weekends sometimes. He wandered to the kitchen and his dad was sitting at the table reading the paper.

“Hey pops, where’s mom and Ephie?” Harry asked, grabbing a cup of coffee and sitting down in his chair.

“Rem and Sirius’. Sirius was having a conniption about what to serve and all that, so mom went over to help. Ephie wanted to see Marley.”

“Ah, gotcha. I… uhm… I invited Draco. Today. And his mom. He… well, I’m sure Sirius and Remus told you that Draco and him are like third cousins or something.” James laughed and nodded.

“Yeah… small world, huh?”

“Yeah…” Neither of them said anything for a few moments. “Dad?”

“Yeah?” His dad said, placing the paper down.

“I… uh… About Draco.” James had a small smile, almost a smirk and was looking at Harry, waiting for him to continue.

“Yes…?”

“I… Never mind!” He said, quickly taking a sip of his coffee. James chuckled and rolled his eyes.

“All right.” He said, picking up the paper again. He definitely knows. Just tell him.

“I like him. A lot.” He said. His dad nodded.

“Right.”

“You knew that.” Harry said, not really asking.

“You’ve been pretty obvious, H.” Harry groaned and threw his face in his hands.

“Well, apparently it’s clear to everyone.” Harry said, his dad laughed again, not in a mean way— just a small chuckle.

“Just people who know you. You’ve never really dated anyone, which was always funny to mom and me. Cause you’re a pretty popular guy.”

“I dated Anna!” James chucked and nodded.

“True. For about a month, three years ago. It’s totally fine that you haven’t, babe. I just think it’s nice that you’re putting yourself out there. A little birdie told me that you’ve liked Draco for a long time, even since before he was Ephie’s nanny.” Harry turned away in embarrassment and shrugged.

“Who told you that?”

“I have my sources.”

“Dad!” James laughed again and Harry rolled his eyes.

“Oh, relax, H! All I mean is that, it’s sweet you’re dating him.” Harry shook his head so hard it almost fell off his shoulders.

“We’re not dating!” James looked at him with a furrowed brow.

“You’re not?” He asked with disbelief. “But, didn’t you go on a date last night?”

“No! We… dad, I don’t want to talk about this with you.”

“C’mon, H. You can talk to me.”

“It’s just… you don’t get it.”

“I don’t get liking someone? Hello? I was in love with your mom for like 10 years before she even liked me as a person.”

“Well, you must have been insufferable then.” James laughed and nodded.

“I was indeed. But, I mean, I know about liking someone.”

“But you don’t know about… liking… a boy.” He said, once again thankful for his dark complexion. James got a soft look on his face and tilted his head.

“Well… yeah, that’s true. I’m willing to learn though, and to listen.” Harry sighed.

“It’s just… Most people are Ok. About… you know, being gay or whatever. And, all the people that matter to me, know that I’m bisexual, you guys, my friends… but there’s lots of people who don’t know… and lots of people who will be… mean. And people are already mean to Draco sometimes, he told me that. And what if this just makes everything worse for him? I can handle myself, the guys who are mean about it are on the football team with me so… I can dish out whatever… but I just… what if Draco can’t?” James was quiet for a moment and then finally spoke.

“What if?” He said, and Harry raised his eyebrows at him.

“Huh?”

“What if people are mean to you guys and what if Draco can’t handle himself with the idiots on the team. What if you guys start dating and then people are mean to you? Would you regret it? Would you not want to hang out with him anymore?”

“What? No! Of course I’d still want to hang out with him.” Harry said quickly.

“Well. There’s your answer then. People are always gonna be idiots and have some shit to say about other people’s lives. But the only thing that matters is what you think about it. If you like Draco and you want to date him… and he wants to date you too… that’s the only thing that matters at all.”

“Well… I don’t even know if Draco likes me… like that. So… we’ll see. But… thanks Dad.” Harry said, giving him a half hug. James squeezed his shoulder and then ruffled his hair.

“I’m sure he does. Anyways, finish your coffee and then get your shower, we’ve got to leave soon.” His dad placed his coffee cup in the sink and walked past, probably going to shower. Harry was going to tell Draco about his feelings today…

Probably.

———

“You ready babe?” His mom asked, grabbing her purse. Draco took another look in the mirror hanging in their hallway. He looked nice, blue jeans and a pink sweater. He hoped that it wasn’t some fancy dress thing… but he figured Harry would have told him otherwise.

“Hillstop Avenue, right?” Narcissa said, starting the car. Draco nodded. He could not tell his mom that he and Harry were actually there last night by themselves, so he had to pretend like he didn’t know where it was. “That’s close by.” They got there in about 7 minutes, chit-chatting. Draco was weirdly nervous, been though he had spent a lot of time with Harry (and kissed him a few times) and he knew Harry’s parents would be there, along with Ephie. Maybe he was nervous because he didn’t know how to act around Harry now. Do they pretend nothing happened? Do they talk about the kisses? Are they going to kiss again? His mom interrupted his internalized crisis.

“Ready?” Draco nodded and they got out of the car and knocked on the door. They heard muffled conversations and then the soft patter of feet walking towards the door and it opening.

“Draco!” Lily said, smiling wide. “Hi! We are so glad you’re here!” She said, ushering them inside. Draco smiled, Lily was truly just a bright light. “And this must be your lovely mom that we’ve heard so much about.” She said, reaching her hand out to Narcissa. “I’m Lily.” His mom smiled and accepted her hand, shaking it.

“Narcissa. It’s so nice to meet you, Lily. Draco is very fond of your family.” She said, Draco saw the slight smirk forming on her lips and wanted nothing more than to erase the image of Harry and Draco kissing from her mind.

“Oh please, we love him so much! Especially my kids.” Draco blushed at that and followed Lily inside, where she led them to the familiar kitchen from last night.

“Where’s Snuffles?” Draco asked, without thinking. Lily tilted her head in surprise and then smiled.

“He’s outside, playing with Ephie, Marley and Lincoln. How’d you know they had a dog?” Way to go, idiot

“I—um, Harry told me. He said that he was big and usually likes to greet people at the door.” Lily seemed to accept that and continued to lead them outside where everyone was. He saw Harry talking with Ron and Hermione and Draco felt glad that there were two more people that he knew. Before he could make his way over there he and Narcissa were stopped by two very attractive men.

“Narcissa…” One of the men said, he had long, black hair that was pulled into a loose bun, pieces framing his face. “It’s been... god. It’s been forever.” He said, pulling her into a hug.

“Sirius.” His mom said, hugging him tightly. “I… I wanted to get in touch with you for so long, I just didn’t know how.” They pulled apart and Draco noticed that his mom had tears in her eyes, and Sirius did as well. “This is Draco.” She said, motioning towards him. Sirius looked at him and smiled.

“Hi. I’m Sirius. I’ve heard a lot about you from Harry.” He said, holding out his hand for Draco to shake. Draco did and smiled.

“I… yes. I’ve heard a lot about you as well… I… it’s really nice to meet you.” Sirius smiled and nodded.

“This is my husband, Remus.” Remus waved and smiled and Sirius and Narcissa began chatting about something that Draco wasn’t really listening to. He was focused on Harry. He was trying to figure out how to casually walk over to him. Why did he have to overthink everything? Harry invited him, of course Draco should go say hi… but he felt weirdly embarrassed.

“Harry’s over there, talking to Ron and Hermione.” Remus said, motioning to where Draco had already seen him. Draco nodded.

“Yeah, yes. I… right.” He said, mentally punching himself for how embarrassing he was.

“Harry’s very happy you came.” Remus said, smiling wide. “He talks about you a lot.” Draco blushed at that and grinned.

“I… really?” He asked, not being able to help himself. Remus nodded.

“Yup. You must be a charmer.” Draco chuckled and shook his head. Remus joined in on the conversation between his mom and Sirius, and so Draco used this opportunity to find the courage and walk over to Harry.

“Hey Draco!” Hermione said first, because Harry’s back was to him. Harry immediately turned around with a big smile on his face.

“Hey, Hermione. Ron.” Draco said, nodding. Ron smiled and waved, he didn’t seem like his normal bubbly self, Draco figured he was probably hungover from last night.

“Hey.” Harry said, pulling Draco in for a hug. “You’re here.” Draco hugged him back and smiled into his neck.

“Of course I am. You invited us.” Draco pulled back and pointed over where Sirius and his mom were still talking. “My mom and Sirius are making up for not seeing each other in over 20 years.” Harry laughed and nodded.

“Sirius was really excited to see her.” They made easy conversation with Ron and Hermione for a while, until Sirius announced that brunch was served and everyone made their way to the dining room.

“It’s buffet style, so whenever you’re ready, grab what you want! We have a waffle bar, a pancake bar and lots more.” Sirius said, grabbing his plate from the table. Draco got a waffle and some fruit and made his way back to the table, sitting right next to Harry.

“Can we talk later, when we’re done eating?” Harry was asking him. He was smiling, so it was most likely a good thing… but that put a pit in Draco’s stomach.

“Oh… yeah, yes. That’s fine.” He said, taking a bite of his waffle, even though he wasn’t really hungry anymore.

When they’d finished up, Harry grabbed his hand and lead him down a hallway and to a fairly big looking bedroom.

“Are you… is everything Ok?” Draco asked, after Harry hadn’t said anything. Harry threw his face in his hands and groaned.

“Ugh, I’m so… just embarrassing. I… Draco I really… Ok so with us… like… what happened…”

“Harry, you don’t have to say anything. I- if you… it’s Ok.” Draco said, quickly, not wanting to hear Harry reject him.

“What?”

“We can just go back to… before. Like… before we kissed. Just pretend it never happened.”

“What? No. I don’t want that.” Harry said, and Draco finally met his eyes. “I don’t want to pretend it never happened. I like kissing you. I want to keep kissing you… I really… I like you. Not just, oh I wanna kiss you sometimes, but I want to… date you.” Draco felt like he was in some weird dream world… there was no way this was actually happening. Your crush of two years doesn’t just confess his feelings to you in his uncles’ bedroom.

“You… you wanna date me?” Draco asked, just to make sure he heard him correctly.

“Yes. I… I know it might be weird at school… and I know that it’s hard because I’m not technically out but I… I want to… date you. Take you on a date… like an official one. If you… if you want to.” Draco smiled and nodded.

“I really like you too, Harry.” Draco said finally, stepping closer to him. Harry grabbed his hands and looked into his eyes. “I would love to go on a date with you.”

“I really want to kiss you.” He said softly, Draco blushed.

“Ok.” He said, leaning in. Harry took the lead and pushed Draco backwards onto the bed. They were mid make out when the door flung open.

“There you— uh!” The two boys flung apart and Harry stood back up, looking to see Lily.

“Mom!” Harry said, flattening his hair and shirt. “I… uh. We were talking and…”

“Talking…” Lily said, with a smile. “Right… well, let’s leave this door open then, for all your talking. I was coming to find you to let you know that we’re singing ‘Happy Birthday’ soon.” Lily walked out of the room and Draco was sure he was bright red.

“Well…” Harry said, walking in front of where Draco was sitting on the bed. “Now both our mom’s have caught us in the middle of kissing.” Harry laughed and Draco knew that there wasn’t anyone who could make him feel the way that Harry did. Harry liked him… and they were going on a date. His first date ever.

“True… at least it’s a shared experience.” Harry sat down next to him, kissed him once more and then grabbed his hand. “Wanna go and sing a very bad rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’?”

“Ok.” They stood up and walked out of the bedroom. And Draco was sure that he’d never forget this day.
