The Most Beautiful Thing
Summary
Sirius really just doesn't give a fuck about what people think, and Remus finds it mesmerizing. These are Remus' favorite examples.
Note
I’ve possibly started to completely ignore canon. I have ideas for how things are going to go, and if they don't fit in with the books (for example: I can’t remember if we find out how the Marauders actually met) so be it because I'm much too lazy to check. I hope you enjoy it anyway :)

Burned Invitations

“Sirius, what in the name of Merlin, is this?” Remus asked, peering at the strange scrap of parchment that had been dropped at their door. It was partially burnt, and unknown, weird mail was usually Sirius’.

“Hm? Sirius asked, looking over Remus’ shoulder. Then he yelped, slapping Remus’ hands until the parchment was back on the ground. “Don’t touch that Moony, might be cursed.”

“Well, I’ve already touched it, so… why’s it cursed?”

“My family sent it.”

Remus gaped. “As in, the Blacks? Are they really still fucking with you?”

“Oh, no, no. I was fucking with them first. They just sent it back. Don’t worry about it.” Sirius laughed.

“I’m going to worry about it, actually. It looked like-”

“I know what it looked like.”

“And…?”

“Don’t worry about it.”

Remus sighed. “My name’s on it, Sirius.” That was clearly visible, even with the burned bits.

“I know. I made them.”

“Them?! There’s more than one?”

“Of course, Moony. What, did you think I just wanted Bellatrix there?”

“Merlin. Did you really send them to your whole family?”

Sirius snorted. “Course. I couldn’t resist. Gave them the wrong date of course. I also sent them to everyone else we know though, with the right one obviously.”

“Sirius… There is no right date. What the fuck are you up to?”

“It’s the perfect date, Remus. New moon and everything!”

Remus scrubbed his hands over his face. It was far too early for whatever was happening.

“Sirius, I really don’t know what on Earth you’ve got going on in that head of yours, but we’re not getting married.”

Sirius frowned. “Why not?”

“Besides the fact that I never actually agreed to marry you and we’ve never talked about this before? Well it’s illegal, and we’re twenty, and I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but there’s a war.”

“Yeah, none of that’s convinced me. I’ll let you pick what we feed people.” Sirius said, smirking.

“Did you really already invite people?”

“Yep. James is really excited to know how you react.”

“Well so far my reaction’s to think you’ve finally fucking lost it.”

“Oh come on, Moons. We need something cheerful. And James and Lily got to.”

“So you just want to do this because James did?”

Sirius huffed. “Of course not. I want to because I want to.”

“Well sometimes we don’t get everything we want.

“Again, you’ve lost me.”

Remus was beginning to regret every single decision in his life that had lead to this conversation. Should have jumped off the Hogwarts Express first year when he had the chance.

“Sirius, love, it’s illegal.”

Sirius groaned. “Don’t be a spoilsport, Remus. That doesn’t matter.”

“How?”

“It doesn’t have to be legal. Or we can tell them I’m a girl. Either way, I want to marry you, Remus.”

Remus couldn’t help the way that made his stomach flutter. “You do?” He asked.

“Of bloody course I do.”

Remus sighed. “Why do I always listen to you?”

“I’m very smart.”

“You sent out wedding invitations to the fucking Blacks, Sirius, before I’d even agreed.”

“That would have been fun even if you said no.” Sirius was grinning.

Remus couldn’t help smiling back. “Well I haven’t said yes yet, so you better do a damn good job of asking.”

“Obviously.” Sirius said, wrapping his arms around Remus’ neck and kissing him. “I don’t even know how long I’ve loved you, Moons, but it’s been a fucking long time. You were honestly a really hot eleven year old.”

Remus whacked his arm.

Sirius just laughed and kept talking. “You were! But anyway, I really, really love you. I watched James and Lily get married, and I just thought, ‘Wow, I love Remus sooooo much more than that. Why aren’t we doing this?’ You know? I want you forever, Moony, and I want to show that to everyone. So let’s have a fucking party! Marry me, please?”

It was ridiculous. It was all absolutely ridiculous, and Remus really shouldn’t have been crying. He definitely shouldn’t have said yes. But as Sirius yelped again and happily snogged him, before pulling out an utterly ridiculous ring and shoving it on Remus’ finger (“it’s moonstone, Moony!), he knew he simply didn’t have the power to say anything else.

He’d never had a chance against Sirius Black. He’d never wanted anyone else, never wanted a life without him. Since he was eleven years old, Sirius had been absolutely it for him. He was kind, generous, and proud, and reckless. He’d made Remus’ life a thousand times better. He was the most fucking beautiful thing in the entire world, and Remus wouldn’t ever need anything else.
