Mary and Lily
Mary
Mary just couldn't believe it. She was stuck at work while James and Sirius got to go out all day having fun. Bloody slackers.
Even still, it wasn't all bad. She had Lily to talk to at work so she wouldn't be completely lonely. Lily was her boss and friend, so that worked. And yes friend- one hundred percent defiantly friends- 'Friend who i wouldn't mind sleeping with'
Mary shook her head fast to get rid of such thoughts. Lily was straight, shed probably find some loud funny guy and marry him, someone like James. It wasn't like Mary blamed her for that, she liked both genders and could see the appeal in those sort of guys.
Like when she dated Sirius, he was fun and loud, there was one problem in their relationship however. Sirius was gay. He didn't know it of course he would have never gotten with her if he did, plus this was years before he even knew.
But Mary knew. She felt something was off pretty early on, he wasn't into her as much as he should have been, and didn't like doing the relationship stuff. It wasn't like he was a shitty boyfriend to her, in fact he was great, better than great.
But he was just more proof relationships didn't work for Mary.
Not that she needed one though, she had a few crushes but she didn't actually NEED to be with anyone. She was strong enough on her own and she was proud of that.
She was pulled out of her thoughts when she received a text, had she really spent most of the work break thinking. The text was from her friend Marlene, just checking in.
Mary adored Marlene. They had been friends all throughout secondary school and they were practically inseparable. Marlene was often described as her lesbian bimbo friend, which always made her giggle. She was also kind and funny, like now always checking in and making jokes when you needed it. Mary was scared to talk to her at first, she was intimidating to her. But she was so grateful she spoke to her.
She was texting her back when the door opened,
"Slacking off i see", Mary looked up to see Lily, a playful smile on her lips.
"Selling your secrets"
Lily gasped "Knew it always had a certain vibe about you"
"Well now you have my secret"
Lily smiled and put her hair up. God she was beautiful. Her wonderful green eyes and freckles were so pretty and her long ginger hair was just- god.
"Whats up" she said looking at her.
Mary realized she was staring.
"Oh nothing no nothing i better get back to my shift" she replied jumping up and walking out the break room door.
Close one.
Lily
Lily stared at the door, confused. 'What the fuck was that all about'. She shrugged it off and walked out the door back to the cafe counter. It was quiet today, which means she could relax more.
She looked over at Mary. God she was beautiful. She adored the way she was so gentle and kind to the costumers around her and how her dark skin caught the elight when she walked past a window, almost as if she was glistening. She also found it adorable when Mary had her hair down, like today. It was curly and dark and just suited her so well it was amazing.
She shook of her thoughts when a costumer came up to the counter.
"Hi" the man said leaning against the counter.
"Hi what can i get you"
"Can you take out here- me and my friends are just down the street at the mall but we wanted to grab some food"
"Yeah we allow take out" Lily replied smiling.
"Cool- hey is Mary in shes my friend"
"Yeah shes working- i can let her know you came by whats your name"
"James" he said putting out his hand.
Lily smiled and shook it, "Well James, what would you like to order"
Lily took the boys order and passed him the things.
"How much extra for your number on there" James said, smiling.
"Oh you waste no time do you"
"I feel the longer you wait the less opportunists you hold"
Lily looked at him.
"That didn't make much sense did it"
"Not at all" Lily said laughing.
James smiled and shook his head, "Can i try again"
"One more chance"
"Did you fall from a vending machine- cause your a snack"
Lily burst out laughing loudly, "God that was even worse"
"So bad it was good?"
"Just bad"
"Damn- no number then"
"Come back another day- maybe ill let you try again"
James smiled again and paid.
He was cute.
Mary
Mary watched Lily and James. Were they flirting ?
She would have gone over to say hi to James, he was a close friend after all, but she didn't want to interrupt whatever that was.
She wasn't jealous,
No way,
Not at all.
Okay she was jealous, maybe she ought to tell James shes the girl she always talked about.
But that wouldn't be fair-
Mary sighed and went back to work.
'Goddamn charmer James Potter'
