Dumbledores office, Hogwarts
November 1, 1981
'So Lily is... Lily is dead?' Mary asked quietly, Dumbledore nodded gravely.
'Yes, James and Lily were murdered by Voldemort.'
'And Peter is dead too?'
'Yes.'
'And Sirius caused it, and is now serving a life sentence in Azkaban?'
'Yes.'
'And You-know-who is gone, because of Lily's son Harry?'
'Yes.'
'And where's Remus?'
'He left my office not too long before you arrived.'
'Is he okay?'
'I would think not, given the state he stomped out in.'
'So basically, all of my friends are either dead, imprisoned, or emotionally unstable right now?'
'Well -'
'And people honestly believe this?!' Mary whispered, her voice rising dangerously.
'All evidence -'
'People honestly believe that Sirius Black betrayed his friends? People believe Gryffindor, Marauder, Order of the Phoenix member Sirius Black would even think about joining you-know-who?'
'Mary -'
'Don't you "Mary" me Headmaster! I know for a fact Sirius Black is innocent! He doesn't have one traitorous bone in his body!'
'Mary, look at his family! All of them are death eaters!'
'Look at your family! Oh wait, they're probably all dead because you're a bloody dinosaur!'
'Miss Macdonald! Don't you dare bring up my family!' Dumbledore snapped, his patience thinning.
'Then don't you dare bring up Sirius' family! He left them! He ran away! He refused to join the death eaters so why would he betray his best friends?'
'Mary the mind of a mad man works in -'
'You know what? I'm done! I am done watching everyone die and I am done listening to you! I bet you're behind this headmaster! All of my friends are dead because they were following your orders!'
'Mary I am not responsible for -'
'I'm sick of it! I'm sick of this! I'm sick of spells and death eaters! I'm sick of evil wizards and funerals! I'm sick of fighting for a cause ran by a dinosaur! I'm sick of this world and I won't be a part of it any longer! My life was so simple before I got my letter and realised, a bunch of people hate me because of my blood!
'So goodbye professor, I'm leaving. I'm leaving this world and I guarantee you I won't be coming back for as long as you live! I'm going to live the life I was supposed to. I'm going back to the muggle world and I'm staying there because I'm sick of everything!' Mary screamed, standing up.
'Miss Macdonald, I understand-'
'Shut up!' Mary shrieked, 'Shut up! This is all your fault. Marlene, Dorcas, James, Lily, Peter, Sirius - They're all dead, or as good as dead, because of YOU! Don't expect to see me ever again, and don't come knocking!' And with that she ran out of the office and true to her word, Albus never saw her again.
